MY SON'S LEAVING HOME!!!!!!!!
by Dansk inmy older son, karl, is leaving home.
it could be this coming sunday but, if not, definitely sometime during next week.. karl has been a wonderful son and friend.
leaving watchtower was made so much easier because of him - and his decision to exit undoubtedly prompted my wife, claire, to take a look at the damning evidence herself!

Hello Ian, I am glad that you and Claire had a safe journey, and everything went well for Karl. It is a wrench when your kids leave home, I remember when my youngest left home to go to university. Of course, he wasn't a JW, which was heartbreaking for us at the time, but which I am relieved about now, and his leaving meant we had less opportunity to try to get him to see the "error" of his ways, not that he would have taken any notice.
I am so happy for you that you have most of your family out of the JWs, and I hope and pray that your eldest daughter sees the light one day, as well as my eldest son.
all my love

Did You Shun Someone?
by Country Girl inhow did you feel when you met the person in public that you were shunning?
what were you thinking as you were shunning the person?
did you think about what other witnesses were thinking if you did not want to shun the person?
-

Yes, I used to shun people who were disfellowshipped or disassociated, it was what I was expected to do as a loyal JW. I hoped at the time that it would make them think of coming back, but now I'm out I know it wouldn't make me think of going back, so this so - called loving act, which is how the Society see it, is a hateful act.

why is Watchtower constructing new kingdom halls ANYWHERE if the new system is so close?
Probably because it isn't that close Ian, and they know it, they just aren't telling their members that. I've heard that story about the book study a few times, and probably said it myself. As I now realise,it's designed to scare people into attending, nothing more. The brother who is telling you might well believe it at the time, probably does, but to the hierachy it's just another tool to keep the faithful in line, as yet another doctrine becomes shaky due to the passage of time.
It's like the much - heralded "big" announcement, which probably won't be that big anyway, but it keeps people in a state of expectancy, and therefore attending meetings, which is the main thing the Society want to see.

As someone who has seen a case of child abuse within my congregation badly mishandled by the elders, and seen the evidence of the world wide cover up of theses cases by the Society, I have to agree with every word in Sunspots' post.
There is no longer any question, if there ever was, that the Watchtower sre hiding behind there 2 - witness rule, and using it to cover up the worst kinds of abuse imaginable. Worse, they will almost certainly carry on doing this, unless some of the numerous lawsuits are successful, and enforce a change.
I would hope that these lawsuits are won, and end up costing the Society millions. Then they may be forced to change foe financial reasons, which are the wrong reasons really, but if it saves more children from the unimaginable sufferring that some victims have been forced to endure, then it will be a change for the better, even if it is for financial reasons rather than because of human decency, which I wonder if the Society are even capable of nowadays.

If there was no religion
by KW13 in.
i was thinking today, imagine if people had their faiths and opinions but no actual religion backing them up.. i believe that it would help stop cults e.t.c making money off people and controlling peoples lives and would help make the world a lot more peaceful.. i've yet to come across a religion that doesn't have problems or in some way is hypocritical.. what do you think?

I've yet to come across a religion that doesn't have problems or in some way is hypocritical.
It would be very hard to find one that doesn't have problems these days. I imagine the world would be an easier, safer place to live in without so many religions.

Yes, it is tragic, but someone does care, thankfully, and the survivors are getting the help they need.

I'd appreciate some insight on what my mother claims was said at assembly
by free2beme inokay, well my mother called this evening and was all emotional about her one day assembly.
i was shocked she brought it up, as we just do not mention the religion anymore, but lately little things keep getting said at her conventions and assemblies that seem to be making this line something she wants to cross more these days.
what she brought up, was something i had not heard mentioned on here and i wanted some insight from people who actually heard it or knew more about it.

The preaching work will never end until armageddon, which means of course, that it will never end, but I wouldn't be surprised if the elders start concentrating their efforts on inactive ones to try and get them back to the occasional meeting, if only to boost the attendance figures, which have been falling for years around here.
As for disfellowshipped ans disassociated ones, well I 've only just takem that step, so maybe they haven't given up on me just yet, though they may as well. I know one thing, if they knock on Trev and Linda's door, they won't enjoy the reception!
