I guess that it is a long list of garbage that is hard to stomach.

I didnt agree with the destruction of Jerusalem in 607, when they had no backing from secular sources. I didnt believe that there are only 360 days in a year for their calculations. I didnt believe in their prophecy fulfillments. I didnt believe that some smug and arrogant people would be gods chosen. I didnt believe that Daniel was talking about today. I didnt believe all of their junk science. The two witness rule, their reasoning on blood. Anything that started with "reasoning". Why it is so important to have Jehovahs name in the New Testament when it was never there. How they pick Elders. Etc..Etc..

Official- Bethel cutbacks?

my wife told me that last night a letter was read from the society, explaining how all printing operations in brooklyn were being moved to either walkill or patterson, and that worldwide there would be consolidation of the printing operations.

i know there have been rumors like this floating around here for the last month or so, but now it seems there is confirmation.

has anyone else heard about this letter being read?

I heard the same rumor as izobcenec

That if New York gets the 2008 Olympic games that there is a buyer that will take all of their property. I was then told how the Watchtower bought the property for peanuts and is now going to get a very big profit from the sale. Good things always happen to Jehovahs organization.

Still no acknowledgment that they are scaling back.

When You Hear Someone Say "The Truth"...

when a witness talks about a person not being "in the truth", does that get to you?

or if they self-righteously proclaim that "at least, they're in the truth and not worldly", does that push any buttons?

I never could understand if they were using it as a noun, as in ' I have the TRUTH' or I am in the TRUTH', or as a noun as in 'is he telling the truth?'

makes me wonder which one they were using when they say 'this is the truth'

at tonight's service meeting (u.s.), another one of those "thank you for your continued contributions (hint hint, beg beg)" letters was read.. in the text, they talked about needing funds to renovate/remodel the squibb and 107 (i think that's the right number) in an effort to bring them up to building guidelines that match the other branch facilities.

this doesn't sound like shutting down in ny and retiring to patterson, as i saw in an earlier thread.. anybody in the know want to add some insight to this?.

I heard the same letter about remodeling a couple of buildings in New York. One of them was the 107 building, it seems that the cafeteria had to be shut down a couple of years ago due to health problems. On the bright side the upgrades might be to make the building more marketable, but I think they just want to spend money on their empire.

The numbers do show increases. I wonder how much the world population has increased over the last year (probably more than 3%). We live in an area just outside of Las Vegas with a 13 % growth rate. So, every now and then I would hear that Jehovah blessed us because of our growth, which would not even compare to the growth of the community. But, if you attended a hall that was in an area that had no growth, the trend at the hall would be stagnant or show a negative trend (obviously no blessing from Jehovah there).

WTS and donations

many christian type religions, organized or not, believe in giving 10% like was done in the old days in the bible.

you even have the mormons, who must give 10%.. as money hungry as the wts is, why have they not gone for that as well?

they can always justify anything for any reason.

I dont think that they will go to a mandatory contribution, because of all of they talk that they have put out about how they are different on this point than Babylon the Great. But, I have noticed a lot more time at meetings has been devoted to talking about how they should give more, about how much free stuff that the Society has given to people, yadda yadda yadda. The Convention that I attended this summer must have had three references to the poor old lady that gave everything that she had, and countless gentle reminders to give at the contribution boxes that are lined up at every door and staircase.

Is the Society selling any Brooklyn properties??

i have heard some rumors that the society is selling some of the properties in brooklyn.

specifically the furman st bldg was mentioned.

has anyone else heard this?

I had heard form an elder that the Stanley Theater might go up for sale. Is this the same as the Furman building?

the decline of the jws has been discussed before in bits and pieces.

i thought i would summarize some of the "signs of the times".

1. there is been no growth in 24 internet connected countries.

leaving magazines on peoples doors was frowned upon in our congregation. because, if there had been a break in or something had been stolen the householder would immediately blame the JW's.
