There were rumors of wife swapping, only a few wives at the hall were attractive. I never knew who was involved, but I remember one couple with the most most attractive wife quit comming. The excuse given for their absence was their son got disciplined for something and it upset the parents.

What Naughty Things Did You Know Of That Went On In Your Hall?
by minimus inas an elder, i knew a lot of things that happened in the congregation, including "secret sins".
what i also knew was that some persons were quite good at being sneaky----especially the teens.
years after my daughter stopped hanging around certain friends and she was in her 20's, she told me little juicy tidbits of what some of her best friends regularly got away with.

"Jehovah" is basically an accepted English translation of YHWH, but if we go with Yahweh, would all the other Hebrews names of people and places have to be changed? I have enough to try to learn from the bible without worrying about pronunciation differences.

I'm not condoning incest, but were both parties adults? Some states allow 1st cousin marriages without restrictions, a few require that one them has had sterilization. If you're looking from a biblical view, I think don't cousins were mentioned in sex laws.
The 2 main reasons for incest taboos were:
1) Increased risk of genetic problems
2) Protection of the under-aged from people using their position to take advantage of younger, helpless family members.

JWs funerals.......forget about the dead person lets preach!
by new boy ingod forbid you would talk about the person at his funeral............what do most people get after living 70-80 years..........a 5-10 minutes eulogy....................the transition statment is "let me tell you about what fred really believed in".............................45 minutes later.....that way the specker can count his time.. as we know people in the organization are unimportant living or dead.

Are JW kids allowed to be kids?
by tall penguin ini had a memory come up today.
i recall there was a time when kids were allowed to read the subheadings at the watchtower study.
they cut that out because they wanted kids to participate in the same way as the adults, by answering the questions for the paragraphs.

Most halls I went to did have children my age, I couldn't school friends over and the only non-jw friends I could have were the neighbors children. When I was a teen-ager and young adult, there weren't any females my age.

Anyone else end up on a JC after losing their virginity?
by yaddayadda inyep, i did.
i got 'privately reproved' after rushing to the elders to confess my sin after losing my virginity via fornicating.
i think all that shame and guilt and legalism that flowed on from that experience must've f*cked me up a bit, scuse the pun.

Wouldn't getting married be a sign of repentence? I think Paul said it was better to marry than be consumed with (unfilled)passion
Tyrone- I know what you mean, the elders gave talks about singles going to the elders which of the other singles were worthy of 'courting'. Somehow I was never spoken well of when yhey inquired about me. Maybe I should have gone to yhem about whom I could date.

Does God want us to be rich?
by Bonnie_Clyde ininteresting article in time magazine (sept 2006, p. 50) - jesus said, "for what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?
this article states that a growing number of christians say" the question is better restated, 'why not gain the whole world plus my soul?'......
christians should keep an eye on heaven.

Which of your children do you want to be poor? Which one do you want to be sick? Since God claims us as his children, I would say -no he doesn't want us to be poor
But must people when praying only asks for their needs, so maybe he looks at some of us as spoiled braty kids that only call him when they need something.Moses ask God to not destroy the Jews when they built the golden calf, and he didn't Jonah asked God not to destroy Ninevah, and he didn't.
