alphafemale, Actually I already have that "The God Delusion", it is a good book. If you liked that book try Darwinism and its Discontents by Michael Ruse.

It would seem that evolution should not be studied on it's own, there just is not enough information there to draw accurate conclusions and gain confidence on it's study or theory.
The study of evolution covers many different aspects of science already, including anthropology, paleoneurology, biology, archeology, etc, just to name a few. There is insurmountable evidence supporting, at least beyond any reasonable doubt that the biblical storyline can’t possibly hold up anymore. If you have a smoking gun in front of you, it has to be assumed that a shot was fired. I agree with most of you post Dan, but I am just not sure if I completely understand the first line of the second post, which I quoted.

I was wondering if anyone else read this article in NEWSWEEK? I am doing a reasearch paper for school on evolution. I was wondering if i could get some help. What are some serious opposing views on the evolution theory? Also, what would keep anyone from believing in it? Last, How can the scientific evidence supporting it be viewed?

welcome to the board
I can understand the confusion, after all the "truth" was forced on us. When i left it took a little while then soon i was able to think a little clearer. My suggestion is read and ask yourself whether or not you truly believe in god. If you think of something you are doubting, study about it. Avoid religious books for a while unless you are using them to compare. I had an e piphany one day not long after reading Stephen Hawking's Universe: The Cosmos Explained. After that i just kept reading.
Another great book is The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins... i suggest that too

Omniscient god ???
by looseend incan an omniscient god, who knows the future, find the omnipotence to change his future mind karen owens i am an atheist, but i have been thinking about this comment ever since i read it.
raised as a jw i am still interested in how the believing mind works.
hypothetically, if man could govern themselves peacefully on earth, even though death would still exist, would the bible loose its potency?

I beleive in God as the Creator of all things. What I do not beleive in is the way man has tried to explain Him.
Zack, the only thing I can say about that comment is that it seems backwards. You believe in a creator, but who told you about the "creator"? With all different theories about god, who is to be believed? Is the only basis behind your belief in a creator do to faith?
My personal feeling is that most religions are taught to be taken as the truth, be it JW or Mormon or Catholic. The basis of all these religions is on the bible and misconstrued in one way or the other from the original meaning it was intended for portray. Even if it was portrayed correctly, how can we be sure that the one portraying the original message was correct? One step further, can we be sure that Christianity is right at all, what about Buddhists or Muslims. I can’t personally believe or put my trust in any organization that is based on mythological beliefs that can’t be proven. -

What's wrong with a dash of cold water if it wakes you up in time to get out of the house before it burns down around you?
good one terry
Seriously though, Jesus was not a JW, like someone else said earlier, the organization didn’t exist then. Fist of all you can’t recruit someone who is dead. I know a lot of people out there don’t believe he is dead, whatever. Second there wouldn’t be a difference then any other Christian religion claming him as one of theirs. Oh wait they all do, never mind. I heard he was an avid member and founder of the first carpenters union (Local 1)

So Zack, what is your stance on this then? Do you believe in a personal god or a god that created and does not judge? Or no god at all?

“Can an omniscient god, who knows the future, find the omnipotence to change his future mind” Karen Owens I am an atheist, but I have been thinking about this comment ever since I read it. Raised as a JW I am still interested in how the believing mind works. Hypothetically, if man could govern themselves peacefully on earth, even though death would still exist, would the bible loose its potency? What would be left to prove? If the time of the end is strictly dependent on man’s failure to govern the world peacefully, then it would have to change if man succeeded. Why does God predetermine failure or any form of government and still allow the “system of things” to continue if he knows they will fail. Also, I was always taught that a point had to be proven, not only to man but to angels, that there could only be true happiness under the rule of god. If it is already predetermined that man will fail and how, then what is the point? It is like playing game of chess when you know your opponent will knock the board over in the middle of the game. Then, having the opponent tell you lets play again, but be forewarned I am going to tip the board over again. Another question that is just kind of a side note is: Why wasn’t the game between God and Satan over with during Noah’s day, (if the account actually happened as described) since obviously most of mankind then were lost to Satan? Otherwise there was no need for a flood, because the game was lost, over. The majority of mankind made the choice. They chose not to worship, so why should they have been killed? The only answer I can come up with is that man can exercise free will, but if that choice conflicts with God or the bible’s views it can and will be fatal. To me, that sounds an awful lot like cruel dictators I have know of, not very forgiving.

Where's God?
by Billzfan23 ini was baptised in a freewill baptist church about 15 years ago, and then i became a witness and was baptised about 11 years ago.
what my experience has taught me having delved deeply in both (served as a servant and later an elder in wts) is that i don't really believe that there is a god.
why won't he answer me?

Why is the only logical conlusion that I can reach is that religion is the opium of the human mind, and merely a way to explain our existence and give ourselves comfort and peace of mind about the things we cannot explain as well as comfort at death?
you answered your own question
