Hi Minimus, Gee, that seems so cold. Did you offer her an alternative to her daughter's care? Where was she to go if not to her daughter? You are right, elders have too much power.

DO YOU FEEL GUILTY ?
by minimus inone of the positive things about this board is the ability to express opinions and feelings.have you ever felt guilty for doing or saying something because of witness ignorance?
i remember many years ago disfellowshipping a terminally ill older woman because she chose to live with her disfellowshipped "apostate" daughter who was caring for her.
this still haunts me and makes me realize the unbelievable power elders can have.

In MY kingdom hall........
by Pistoff inthere will be coffee in the back.
the format for thursday night will rotate, and will include slides, videos, improv talks about subjects speakers choose.
women will be elders and ms's......if they can be kings and priests with jesus, that's good enough for me; paul might not like it but he will get used to it.

Thanks for sharing Susan. I enjoyed that as much as I did the actual show. Both Bill and the woman reporter were fabulous!

JARACZ: What Did He Really Mean?
by Englishman inbp: tell me about the database.
how do you justify keeping a list of paedophiles, men in some cases who have confessed to paedophilia but you have not reported them to an authority.
what justification is there for you to keep that?

I'm wondering how she got such a choice seat as to be able to confront him immediately as he left the stage. With a camera too. Didn't they know that she was from the press? Is that allowed?

JW protecting molesters on purpuse? Panorama!
by Dacke ina lot of people here are laughing.
"englishman" wrote (i think):.
"hopefully this will mean that in britain if an elder harasses you before a case comes to court, the elder can be arrested for perverting the course of justice.".

Hi Dacke, you said:
It appears from the documentary that the JWs protect and hide child abusers on purpose. If so, why do they maintain the records of the abuse cases? If they had such a policy, surely they would destroy such information? They wouldnt make a database out of it, would they?
If I were them, I would destroy the records, but make a database to be sent off somewhere unknown, just in case.
JW protect and hide abusers for one reason only. I was born into this organization and we were always taught not to bring reproach on Jehovah's name. If we went to the police and reported our brother we would be bringing reproach on Jehovah's name. If we took our brother to court we would be bringing reproach on Jehovah's name. Its all about protecting the reputation of the watchtower society. People don't contribute money to an organization where known criminals are allowed to afiliate.

Watchtower Fax to Panorama
by Nemesis in.
here is the "official" watchtower reason for not giving an interview to panorama: .

If the number of pedophiles on record in the organization is considerable less than the 23,720 claimed, then why not just announce the actual number and be done with it? The reason is that the number is probably more or less accurate and that is why J.R. Brown spent so much time elaborating on how the numbers were compiled!

Are any of you actually witnesses here?
by A_Revelation in.
how can all of you say that you are disgusted etc when you dont know any thing about the organisation?.
im sure you didnt really worry before but now you are all acting upset etc.. i stress to say that it is accusations not fact.. i am 16 and found the program annoying in the fact that we were portrayed completely wrong.. the bbc could say what they liked.. i think that people should be more sincere and less assuming.. thanks, mark

Hi Mark, I also saw the show and I really enjoyed it. I used to be one of jehovah's witnesses, in fact I was one for many years as I was born into it. But I stopped being one when I realized that jehovahs witnesses do not teach the truth as they claim to be. Didn't you see in the program where the poor girls were abused and then the elders tried to cover it up? That happens all the time. You seem like a very intelligent person. You need to investigate your religion before before you accuse others of not having compassion. I have a lot of compassion and do not like to see other people hurt.

Fabulous program. More to the point than Dateline and also they stressed how pedophiles are protected in reality versus what the watchtower spin on child protection is. Loved how thay confronted the governing body member. Made the old boy quake in his boots. Wouldn't you think he would want to clear this whole thing up? But no, just more hemming and hawwing and wildly professing not go beyond the things written. Ha, their whole religion is built around going beyond the things written!

Embarrassed
by WildTurkey insometimes when i think back about when i was a dub, i get a little embarrassed.
i remember telling my kids not to draw on watchtower mags (i also had to tell their mother) i was a grown man and would let nerd elders counsel me for dumb things, like saying the word luck, or bulletin board.
i remember getting to the end of the month and not having the cong average field service time and start to worry what the other elders and co would say.

Hi Wild Turkey. What's the matter with saying "Bulletin Board"?
