when i came to this board, i thought that it was for encouragement amoung people who had been treated badly by the wtbts, i did not understand that people were going to come here and bash god, his son and the bible.
i could understand some embitterment over religion but some of you people are down right insulting.
not to mention the fact that i have tried to contact others on the board and have had my messages ignored.. .
Sorry that you are leaving and don't feel the board is for you for the reasons you have stated.
Perhaps in time you'll come to see the board as a melting pot, sometimes a flaming cauldron in fact - but what comes out of it, eventually, is devoid of any pretentious stuff - that to me is completely unlike Jehovah's witnesses.
Jesus was very outspoken and forthright when the occasion demanded - didn't they say 'who can listen to this shocking speech?'

I think I'd have to say it has brought me back to life. Am now seeing my life, and life around me as an ongoing forward moving process whereas as a JW I was stuck going backwards and every aspect of myself was in disagreement and disarray, a slow death - feel more coherent and alive now. understand how you feel nvrgk.
a post about shunning and how we didnt have to just accept it but could show that our door of unconditional love was open even if theirs was shut prompted me to e-mail an immediate family member who i had not seen since a grandparents funeral (i am not da/df but faded too quick and married to non dub).. just came back from coffee with them, and when they left they thanked me for suggesting that we meet up!
this person is a pioneer and maybe didnt feel comfortable suggesting it themselves?!

good thinking bluebell - it also gives them the opportunity to see that you haven't fallen apart without jehovah's witnesses and maybe your unconditional love will impart some confidence to start reasoning on things independently.

Sorry if i sounded very harsh against the jw religion, I think I will always be like that because of the damage I see that it has/is doing to people.
Your Aunty sounds like a very kind, caring person and has been taken in by a false story just as we all were. I myself have been a witness for 30 years and am trying to help my own family who are trapped. Many of us are in that situation.
I'd be really glad if you came back and talked to us.

as a kid was there a particular fictional character that you really wanted to be ?
or have there been fictional characters in books that you admired or loathed or epitomised a particular quality for you?
one that springs to mind periodically.. i havent read any dickens for years but some of his characters, even if sometimes a little deliberately one dimensional were portrayed in such detail that the character and the quality become embroiled.
I always wanted to be george from the famous 5 too.
Used to get given Nancy Drew for christmas.

Looks real to me Jeff - perhaps they were following the local christian custom of addressing strangers as brothers.

if most people are anti or ex jw why bother if you dont believe in it why waste your time writing mean hurtful and prejudges posts and set up a entire web site and forum dedicated to them.
its a religion not a cult and people write about jw's as a whole everyone is an individual and just like the rest of the world there are nice caring people as well as bad awful people.
jehovah witnesses dont set up web sites saying and exploting awful things that non jw's do to them, such as teasing bashing raping even murder..
My Aunty is and same with her husband and she was abused by her husband and the other JWs helped her to leave him which I’m grateful for.
I'm really glad your aunty is now safe from her abusive husband.
From what I have seen the abuse has to get really bad - life threatening in fact - before JW's will help a fellow witness leave their abusive mate. The guidance usually given by the elders is to stay and be meek and humble and wait on Jehovah. The victim is also to an extent made to feel guilty and responsible for the abuse.

i ask this because as a jw, you are programmed to think your only purpose is to preach the good news of the kingdom....period.
but more and more, i've noticed in my own life a strong pull toward something i won't elaborate on, but it has me thinking that maybe we really do each have a particular purpose and it's up to us to discover what it is.
i know i'm kind of new to the forum, but please let me know if any of you have experienced this same kind of unusually strong pull toward something you can't fully explain.
I'm finding it very purposeful to feel rested (can't think of better word) in what is true - and express and enjoy from that basis.
