Personal Ethics of XJWs
by NanaR inwhile reading on jwd last night and this morning, i was reminded of a situation that i had with my husband when i told him i was not ever going back to the kingdom hall (this happened in october 2006 so relatively recently).
this statement should not have come as a great surprise to him, as he knows that i now belong to the american legion auxiliary (in fact i am the local unit president), that i vote, and that i helped convince our daughter to have a blood transfusion that may have saved her life.
also i had told him in the past that he should not set up any meetings for me with the elders as i would not talk to them.. in spite of his knowledge of my present activities, his reaction to my "never going back" statement was severe.

Beyond their control
by NanaR ini have been thinking a lot lately about the relationship between jesus and those who are "born again" by the spirit.
it occurred to me that this is the only relationship in the jw religion where the "organization" or the fds does not intervene (see recent threads regarding jesus as mediator only of those in the new covenant according to jw doctrine).. since the number of those partaking of the emblems at the memorial has remained basically unchanged over the last 20 years (increased some years, decreased others, but no steady movement in either direction), i was wondering what the future might hold with regard to jw doctrine regarding the heavenly class.. i read another thread that indicated some congregations have taken steps to decide who is "truly" anointed.. if the sealing stopped in 1935 except for replacements for unfaithful ones, why does the number "wobble" instead of decreasing?
people born in 1920 (15 in 1935) are now 86 years old if still living; and we know that not all of the anointed were young folks in 1935. so, faithful or unfaithful, they are passing away.

How did Rutherford do it?
by NanaR inback at the time that rutherford revealed the "new light" regarding the great multitude as an earthly rather than heavenly class, how did he manage to convince people to stop partaking of the emblems?.
i have wondered about this for years.
my grandmother was born around the "turn" of the 19th century to the 20th century.

Education Brochure?
by NanaR ini finally downloaded the 2005 wt cd (thanks to link posted by vanilla mocha on another thread) from http://www.watchtower.cc .
for a while now, i have been wanting to find a copy of a publication that was issued in the early 1990s regarding education.. this publication (a brochure, i think) had the same title as a 1992 watchtower article that i found on the cd-rom - education and jehovah's witnesses.
however, my memory is that the brochure was more direct in actually encouraging witnesses to prepare themselves educationally for gainful employment (while i am sure it still had the required admonition to full-time service and supporting oneself in that endeavor).. "party line" was that pioneers needed to be able to earn a "living wage".

Lineage of Mary?
by NanaR ini hope someone here can help me with this question.
i seem to remember very strongly from my jw upbringing having been taught that while matthew gave the lineage of jesus through joseph, luke gave the lineage through mary.
i recently became somewhat interested in the catholic faith.

A new experience
by NanaR inlast wednesday evening i attended a catholic mass for the first time in my life.
being raised as one of jehovah's witnesses, i rarely ever saw the inside of another church (maybe the occasional wedding or music recital), but catholic churches were particularly off limits.
i am now exploring my spiritual horizons.

What planted the seed of doubt that lead you to leave or think of leaving?
by NanaR ini've been thinking of this a lot lately.
the following experience ties my first doubt in with my present life.
as a backdrop to this, you should know that i was a 5th generation "raised in the truth" jw through my mother (her great-grandfather got "the truth" from pastor russell).

New here
by NanaR ini just found this place and thought i'd post.
i'm a 50+ year old grandmother who was "raised in the truth".
i have been on my way out of "the organization" for several years now, but have moved cautiously because i don't want to jump from the firing pan into the fire so to speak.
