Showing human caring could never be wrong. Even though they shun you, show them you can step up higher than they do. Even if they choose to rip the card up and dispose of it, at least you did your part.

Has anyone found dating as an EX JW difficult?
by sweetstuff injust curious as to what difficulties have faced people dating as an ex jw.
myself, i have noticed the glazed over look in a guy's eyes when you try to explain why your family doesn't celebrate the holidays with you etc.
new to this board, so if this has been well covered before, please forgive me.

Yes it was difficult due to lack of practice. Dating is somewhat frowned upon by JWs if you're not "contemplating marriage". It's not considered as a means of sharpening your social skills. When I went on my very first official date I was already in my late twenties, inexperienced, and very uneasy at times.

Is your non dub partner/spouse curious?
by samiam2b inafter hearing all about my life and experiences as a jw, my non-jw spouse was curious.
that is how she found this site and how i found it.
the doctrinal crap really pisses her off, especially because of what it does to families.. i did have a family member who was molested many years ago but do not know the details nor the outcome.

For me, talking about anything JW with my husband is like dredging up the pains of the past ... I try to avoid it at all costs. I've left that part of my life behind me, and would like to leave it there.

At the hall last night
by Shawn10538 ini went to the hall last night to get an insight book and a concordance.
i had set it up with an elder ahead of time to get them.
i arrived after the meeting had ended, walked up to the counter anxious to leave as quickly as i came when a big brother came up to me, planted his body in between me and the literature servant and started giving me the third degree about who i am, what is my standing in the congregation, and what did i want the books for.

"New light"...
by Awakened07 inthis won't be a long-winded post; just a "quickie", and mostly meant for those still active:.
i find it odd that jehovah's witnesses don't find anything odd about how 'new light' is distributed.
i mean - if this new light comes from jehovah god himself, the creator of the universe and everything in it, wouldn't it be fair to say that it would happen more like in this story:.

since they are only small children, he doesn't tell them any details they wouldn't understand, and that would only hurt them
Also, I doubt very much that the father would "scold" or "chastise" his children for asking questions about his story.

Point out biblical principles JW's omit to follow
by JH injesus said these words:.
"if you desire to be perfect," replied jesus, "go and sell all that you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have wealth in heaven; and come, follow me.".
i never heard elders ask jw's to reach out into their abundance and help poor jw's....have you?.

Regarding marrying "unbelievers" ...
"Marry only in the Lord" (taken from 1 Cor 7:39) is repeated ad nauseum. The rest of the verse is often omitted, which says: "A wife is bound during all the time her husband is alive. But if her husband should fall asleep in death, she is free to be married to whom she wants, only in the Lord." Paul is obviously referring to widows here.
1 Cor 7:25 is also omitted: "Now concerning virgins I have no command from the Lord, but I give my opinion as one who had mercy shown him by the Lord to be faithful."
Paul was quite clear to indicate when he was giving HIS PERSONAL OPINION throughout that entire chapter.

We could not use hairspay, deorderant or perfume the week of their visit. And we she stayed away from the meeting on any particular night we were reminded again that she is allergic to smells. It was like they were saying to us "alright who wore perfume to the meeting?" You couldn't even wash your clothes (including underware) in Downey she could smell that too.
That would've been my perfect reason for NOT going to the meetings that week! I'm allergic to noxious odors.

As my speech counsel slip filled up, oh how I looked forward to "graduating" from that dumb school ... until I realized there was no such thing. Little did I know that we were all destined to be forever in the matrix of "talk" after "talk" ... "assignment" after "assignment". Zzzzzzz
Jeez! I gave my first talk at 8 years old! What's the sense being in "school" if you don't graduate?! Which do I take to make it all over ... the red pill or the blue pill....
