we all hear stories an experiences that happened to a "friend of a friend," and the witnesses are no exception.
they even have their own urban legends.
here are my favorites, and please post yours as well.. 1. watchtower theologists according to one of the old guys i used to pioneer with, there is a super-scary-secret organization of apostates called "watchtower theology.
The "sister" who "studied" with me, told me once of this experience. A man who used to dabble in the occult began to study with JWs. One of the spirits wanted him to stop his study, and promised him a new car filled with cash if he stopped his study. Surely enough when the man checked, the cash-filled car mysteriously appeared outside his door. Of course, this zealous, interested person refused to stop his study ... the car disappeared as mysteriously as it appeared.
Then there's the one about a "brother" who bought a second-hand car. After being involved in several vehicular accidents he became suspicious about this car. Elders were called in. A picture of Saint Christopher was found in the car ... it refused to burn too! (of course)
well i grew up in the organization..and i had several committee meetings..i was privately reproved at 17 (for pot) at 22 i was publicly reproved (for sex) and privately reproved again at 31 for sex again.... .
so who holds the record for the most discipline while still in the organization????
i know many cases (mostly friends) who were df'ed came back and then df'ed again...i even know someone who was df'ed three times......
One time a "busybody" sister whom I worked with made it her business to report me to the PO because she found I was becoming "too friendly" with a worldly man. Nothing came of it since she had no proof of any "wrongdoing" ... and I denied the whole thing anyway.
right from the beginning, you are bombarded with others telling you what a "privilege" it is to "be used" in the organization.
especially if you're a male, it is easy to get hooked by the elder's lines.....for example, a male is given the "privilege" of "handling the microphones" if they put in enough time in the ministry and they aren't setting a bad example.
if you're "faithful in what is least", greater privileges await you.
Being in a demonstration at the Service Meeting is something that only the privileged can enjoy
Jeez was I stuck with this one!! In my opinion, this privilege was more like a pain in the butt!! After working all day then dragging myself to the Kindumb Hell, I had to stay late to practice a stupid demon-stration ... blech! And the elders never seemed to give me a break. I had at least 3 demon-strations a month!
much to my hubby's chagrin, i really love tv commercials!
I also like the one for FedEx that's set in the dinosaur age. The assistant sends the package out on a prehistoric bird, but the bird (and the package) gets eaten. He comes back into the office and says to his boss:
Assistant: The package didn't make it.
Boss: Did you send the package by FedEx?
Assistant: (confused) But FedEx hasn't been invented yet!
Boss: (looks up from the desk) Not my problem!
just reminiscing a little on all the "quick-build" assignments i supported in the past.
.
what was your "quick-build" experience?.
One hall remodeling in our area needed brothers to stay the night in an on-site camper and guard the supplies. So I would show up at around eight in the evening, play cards with other guys or order pizza, then go to sleep and wake up the next morning having logged ~12 hours of service time.
No wonder there were so many pioneers on the site! I remember there was even a local needs part on the service meeting about the pioneers making too much noise during the night while playing cards.

Much to my hubby's chagrin, I really love TV commercials! Most times I find myself paying more attention to them than the TV show that's on. It's hard for me to choose which is my favourite, but if I must choose ... it would be Toyota's zoom ... zoom ... zoom ...
i recall i was in service with ken little, the canadian branch committee overseer, and he took the first door.
the magazines were talking about nuclear war and its impending disaster.
so ken little introduces himself and says "good morning sir,did you know that every minute they spend millions of dollars on the manufacturing of weapons......" the homeowner looks straight at him and says "yeah?
Not really ... I was embarrassed by simply BEING out in field service.
i was just on facebook, and somone sent me a pm saying they knew me from school.
so anyway i sent a reply saying how are you?
etc.. she then sent me another message to say how she was doing and then finished it with 'am i remembering correctly you're are in the truth?'.
I wouldn't hit too hard... just ask her a couple trick questions to get her thinking.

Just reminiscing a little on all the "quick-build" assignments I supported in the past. As a young JW, all in all they weren't all that bad. They gave me a chance to get out and meet new people, but what bothered me was all the "meal assignments" my congo got. Apparently those so-called "meal assignments" were a means for different congregations to outshine each other by providing the most lavish meals. (seems like our congo was the one that set the bar) Then things snowballed even further when some "brothers" volunteered for the "work assignments" depending on which congo was providing meals. The whole "meal assignment" thing then became a burden on congregation members who were of modest means ... only extravagant contributions need volunteer.
