There can be "happy" times there, social parties, getting together skating, picnicking, getting together for building(in itself) a KH, volunteer work at assembly(was more fun that sitting thru the program). But still all those happy times were our "own ability/talent" to make some things in life there fun or enjoyable. Scenario: the slaves made some fun times for themselves, in spite of "slavery", they sang, they danced and prepared great food; not because of slavery but for their way to survive. The "joy" of life does not come from the GB.

There are JWs happy to be in that org
by greendawn inwe on this forum were all more or less unhappy with the wts for one reason or other and inevitably we left that religion which we consider to be in fact a cult.
we can't understand or imagine how anyone could be happy living in that negative environment yet there seem to be quite a few dubs that are happy and content being jws.
apart from the obvious ones eg those that have some status which gives them a sense of importance why do others feel happy being there?

The fastest scripture looker upper
by SacrificialLoon ina comment by rubadub in the thread about learning new things at the meetings made me remember something, and gave me a chuckle.. i would always see how fast i could look up the scriptures during the talks, and race to beat most everyone else.
of course everyone else didn't realize i was racing them, but i'd always feel a smug (and perhaps a bit self-righteous) satisfaction at having the scripture looked up and ready to follow along while from the sights and sounds around me most everyone else was still looking it up.
being able to look up jehovah's word with such speed would surely earn me spiritual brownie points.

aahhhh, yes! When my brother was 7 & I was 9,,we'd have races w/a brother about 80+ yrs old to find the scriptures,,we were so desparate for fun! ? Then on the bindery lines at Bethel, my brother said they had competitions. Wow, only in the WT!!

April 15 WT: Society acknowledges some find its teachings hard to accept
by truthseeker inthe april 15, 2007 watchtower revolves around the congregation, it's benefits and requirements.. the second study article is let the congregation be built up.
under the subheading sticking with the congregation the society acknowledges those who cannot accept a certain teaching even after doing research in their publications.. .
para 14 consider another possibility involving the congregation.

It's scary to me that simple me (just a mom of 5 kids and a grandma now) has more insight than the "chosen" ten men in Brooklyn. They say to "wait on Jehovah" but technically we are told to wait on "men" - them. They are a small inexperienced group, none of real life (real jobs, children, and grandchildren) They have no reality!

Women.....................A JWs view
by vitty ini was just hopping the boards and came across this discussion on e-mans site.

About 30 yrs ago, I remember an elderly sister talking with me that she couldn't stand Rutherford because he would be on the platform stating women were a "bag of bones and a hank of hair", she said "and here all the women do all the work.",,,,it baffles me now that she stayed there all those years.

It should scare the JWs that we (apostates) get their "new light" from Jehovah (via internet) before they do!! What fun!

Knocking
by InquiryMan ini just got knocking today.
the two families tales were moving, though not the standard witness family in a way.
their challenges were to extreme for that, but they gave a good impression though.

A few years ago, my brother & I (had left 20 yrs prior) went to a funeral at KH, a long-time friend (a fader, left WT world altogether too) requested us to go to support her as her mother (a JW of 60 yrs) died. Our friend (nor us) had never associated at that KH area. My brother and I commented after how the sermon was so "same-o-same-o", so empty, we could have still after all these years just about given that boring talk ourselves if we wanted to..after we went to our friend's house,,the oldest granddaughter not a JW, was crying, with anger, how the talk didn't say hardly anything about her grandmother. It was so impersonal. Fortunately, the JW mother never "cut-off" her daughter tho they just learned not the talk about the JW religion with each other.

Many best wishes to your mom and her recovery! So happy she was willing to re-evaluate the WT teachings. She is a WT "survivor!" that didn't let WT rules destroy her.
