I would forgive the individuals on a personal level, but what has been done organizationally is unforgivable. I have no need for any direction/control from an organization any more, forever, AMEN!

I guess I was running ahead of the WT organization even 40+ years ago! Never offered those "unreal" study articles anyway in door to door back then anyway!

The Watchtower justification for now allowing CIVILIAN SERVICE.
by jwfacts inafter tens of thousands of young witness men in the prime of their lives have spent years in jails for refusing civilian service in 1996 the watchtower decided such a choice was not unchristian and a matter of choice.
watchtower 1996 may 1 p.20.
what, though, if the state requires a christian for a period of time to perform civilian service that is a part of national service under a civilian administration?

The young men back in the late 60's that went to prison because of the draft, then the rest of their lives have a prison record,,organizationally they had no choice, even to choose alternative service then,,I believe that most if not all would have accepted alternative service then,,I visited one brother in prison because of refusing the draft,, he was "grey" looking in there, depressing,, his mother was there visiting and she so wept. Back then the judges were starting to beg the young men to do alternative but they would be disassociated if they did that then. It is so nauseating and upsetting how they throw it out there that is was the brothers' themselves, their personal conscience back then. There are so many issues that the WT organization does not allow "personal conscience."

Patti Smith talks about being a JW on NPR "Fresh Air" (March 9, 2007)
by mavie inhttp://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyid=7798711.
just click 'listen'.
she talks about it beginning around the 9:00 minute mark.. it looks like this was recorded some time ago, so it might be old news..

I am amazed how some like Patti, just could clearly see while young JW life wasn't for them. She doesn't seem to have any regret or resentment that her mom was a JW,,. of course, her dad was an atheist, so that may of helped to break down that JW control on her heart while young,,and maybe her Mom wasn't an extremely devoted JW. I know I talked to an xJW & she said she didn't hardly go in service because she just didn't like it. I told her 'what did that have to do with it?' I went in service and didn't like it & I even pioneered 5 yrs and didn't necessarily like it but thought I had to do it anyway. I find myself so disappointed in myself at times that I wasn't/couldn't have been more honest with myself. I guess I wasn't a natural rebel, I had to develop that over a lot of time, damn it!

JW's and the internet
by *jeremiah* ingrowing up as a jw in the 70's and 80's we didn't have the influence of the internet.
i, of course, believed i was in "the truth" and never heard anything (from the outside) that negative about our jw religion.
of course, now and again, we had some angry people at the door, but other than that i can't recall very many outside negative criticisms.

Young people and older people educated to the 21st century now go on the Internet for research and everything as easily and naturally as turning on the radio/tv. There's no stopping JW/WT exposure now!!!

Our son is in jail for a crime. My fam says its my fault for leaving JW's.
by ontarget inmy wife and kids left jw's 7 years ago.
all seemed well and then last week my 20 year old son committed a crime and is now in jail 1500 miles away.
everyone that knows him says he is a good kid.

I am sorry, certainly painful,,but remember JWs are nothing more than "Job's friends" in spirit. There is no support there for any problems. They "shelf" everything in their simple minds. They quickly get rid of their own people if there are any problems, then turn around and state they don't have problems like everyone else. Such a lie! Maybe there is a support group of parents that understand truly and can be supportive. I hope you don't self-condemn, nobody got a perfect parent, most try to do their best.

Watchtower breeding campaign
by Fleshybirdfodder inok, so this is purely speculative, but with the dwindling numbers in the org do you think the wts may actually start encouraging the r&f to have children?
as counterintuitive as it may seem with the constant impending armageddon agenda, i know of many died-in-the-wool company men (and women) who would swallow whatever spin the society feeds them to keep the numbers up.
farfetched perhaps, but what else can they do?.
-
Gayle
Catholics do this, priests & pope have no children (or at least no marriages). Most GBs have never had children.

Will we see the GB replace 1914 with a new date in the next 30 years?
by nvrgnbk inray franz mentioned in crisis of conscience that in 1980 schroeder, klein, and suiter proposed changing the start of "this generation" from 1914 to 1957. as the "this generation" doctrine has since mysteriously morphed any date associated with it is moot.
however, as time marches on without the developments anticipated by the gb may they again pick a new year, this time for the invisible enthronement of christ, in an attempt to buy time and regain credibility?
what dates or historical events would be likely choices?

I think they would have difficulty with a 2/3 majority vote. Don't think any of them have the "creativity" (one of those things 'if you don't use it, you lose it' things).
