Online Dating etiquette

i ran across this info and thought it would be good to share since there are some here who are using online dating sites like match and plentyoffish.

i've been a bit surprised by some of the men emailing me, demonstrating that this info is not common knowledge.

(i'm not suggesting that men alone are guilty.

Jim_TX-------------- Thanks for responding to my question. Now I have another one. Do you think there is any way I can at least attempt to remedy this? Two nights have passed with no response from him. I'm wondering if writing him again would be a good idea and, if so, how soon is the soonest I should try it? I thought about telling him, 'Look, I'll be at ____place at ___time. Come take a peek if you want, to see that I'm real. You don't even have to come in and sit down.' But I thought that might even sound more like a joke.

I thought about showing up at his work one day; he'd have to recognize me from my pic. --I googled him after his email showed me his full name, just to see if anything would come up. Turns out he works at my college, of all places. (I'm not currently a student--recovering from health issues.) ...But then I thought, that might look like stalking!

So now I'm wondering if I just blew this one all to pieces and should just give up. Problem is, I hate the idea of him being left with the humiliating feeling of having been pranked, all because of me. At the very least, I feel like my showing up there would show him that, while I may be online-dating-etiquette naive, I'm not a huckster, and someone was showing genuine interest in him.

Nosferatu----come on! Of all people, I would have thought you'd be on this one.......

I do welcome anyone's [serious] input. I probably should have started my own topic for this one, but didn't initially think about it.

both wanted our children to have a more mainstream life than the witnesses frame could offer.

in time, my wife and i got separated.

'I love you'

yesterday, i came to the realisation, that nobody has ever said these words to me, least not that i can remember, which was a temporarily devastating moment for me.

this began with my father.

spotting him in front of the tv in his favourite chair, i walked over and came out with the words 'i love you' it felt very weird, because i think it may be the first time i've ever said these words myself, but i'm going to blame my upbringing on this.

Why do some people answer your question with another question?

this burns me to no end when people do this.

i feel the whole world is getting like this day by day.

people can't just say yes or no or a direct answer anymore it always has to be with a question, or going in circles without ever answering the original question, or down right evading the question.

Okay-- Little Toe and IP_SEC appear in their pictures side by side on this thread, and I would swear they look like the same person. What's up with that? Is this an example of Booker-T's complaint about Christian's having two faces? (Or, in this case, one face but two posting voices?) --The resemblence here is so real, I'm not even sure if I'm joking or not....

blondie---- Actually, his mom would give the address to the elders in her congregation so they can pass it on to the congregation elders near him--and they can mark it down as an apostate Do Not Call (for the protection of the flock).

I went through the lack-of-help thing when I was telling them for years prior to my surgery that I needed help in that regard [physically]. All they would say is, Do you need help getting to the meetings or out in field service? (in other words, do I need someone to pick me up) Any other form of help was treated as a foreign---'does not compute'---concept to them. The only way people got any physical help was if they had family members in the 'truth' willing to help pick up the slack (which I did not have, and my husband at the time certainly was not willing!).

By the time I finally did have the surgery, I had pretty much made up my mind that having the JW's come around to my house was the last thing that would be helpful to my healing--physically AND spiritually--so I rarely have contact except occasionally listening to the Sunday meetings over the phone. Some days I can't stand to do even that.

my cup is half-full take on life.

whilst it is an absolute that the years i spent in the borg were many.

at this stage of my new-life outside, i am trying to maintain a high-moral-road view of the cause/effect relationship that it had on me and my life-view.. i believe that coming to the realization that not all of witness life is evil or corrupt or even wasted, is healthier for me than a constant negative rant about what it cost me.

garybuss has a good point. I agonized for two long years (both with physical pain and with wrestling the shunning threat) before finally consenting to have a huge surgery that, in the end required 4 (count 'em-- 4 !!!) units of blood as well as the surgery being performed in two stages, six days apart, to deal with the amount of blood loss during the first surgery.

After all was said and done, my JW ex-husband and sons never came to visit me in the hospital (I was in for two weeks--and I'm inactive, not DF'd or DA'd). My worldly mom let it slip on the phone to my ex that I was receiving two units of blood right then. She says he said nothing in response to that--she's not even sure he caught it. But after the surgery my kids are not talking to me--supposedly about something unrelated but completely bogus, regardless (and my ex won't even let them talk with me about that circumstance). I don't know if it's just more of my ex's paranoid/ mind control abuse or if he really did catch the fact that I accepted blood--but is instructed by WTS not to question me about it--and is shunning me because of the blood or the unrelated stuff, or both.

If the reporter would want my story, I'd be willing to talk. There's a lot of telling elements even beyond the blood issue in the story I have to share.

Why is the Watchtower Society so cruel to teens?

my mom just informed me that a 17 year old has been disfellowshipped at her hall.at least 7 others have been kicked out within the last 5 years.the publisher count is only 56 .why do they let the teens get baptized so young?

i was 14 and only got baptized because of pressure and the end was coming.if you weren't baptized you would be destroyed.. why don't they wait until everyone is at leat 21?

all these teens haven't come back and you won't ever see them unless they return.i haven't seen my cousin in over 2 years.no one went to his wedding,isn't invited to any family functions and is to be avoided at all costs.. the watchtower society should be ashamed that they act that way and the parents let them get away with it..

"The minor children are protected by the good work of their parent until puberty." --What the heck kind of designation is that? One of my former sisters-in-law hit puberty way young--at age nine!!! Does that mean that she, at age nine, has more culpability in Jah's eyes than her non-pubescent friend at age 9? Yikes!!!
