Stephen Fry says everything I believe in two minutes
by cofty in"it is perfectly apparent that god is monstrous, utterly monstrous, and deserves no respect whatsoever.
the moment you banish him, your life become purer, simpler, cleaner; more worth living in my opinion.".

How do Americans feel about Canadians and Britons interjecting their opinions onto hot localized political topics: gun laws, abortion, ect?
by adjusted knowledge inin addition to the above question, why do citizens of the two above mentioned countries, or other countries, feel the necessity to tell americans how they should interpret the american constitution for localized issues?.
i fairly much have an idea what the general population in the usa feels in regards to the first question.
this could be one of the possible reasons cnn piers morgan poor ratings and eventual firing.

I don't care. Go ahead and share your opinions. I might learn something. Or I can ignore you entirely.
I probably agree with you about a lot of it, anyway. I think a lot about the US sucks -- Palin, for instance or the Republican party. Bash them all you like!

I just want to say I suffered from severe depression as a JW. I finally gave up just because I was so depressed I couldn't function. I figured I was going to be burnt toast at armageddon anyway. Amazingly, the longer I stayed away from meetings, the better I felt! And when I felt better I could be more logical about JWs and religion in general.
I say, don't go back to the meetings. You don't want to get to the point I was at if you can avoid it, so give it all up now and go find a more interesting life. -

Books/texts/scriptures mentioned in the bible , though not incorporated in the bible cannon .
by smiddy inif a bible writer / scribe refers to a particular book text or scripture by name , for one reason or another, shouldn`t that be a legitimate reason for including it in the bible cannon as a part of the bible ?.
just how many texts , books, scriptures are left out of the old testament bible that are mentioned there in and how many, if any are their in the new testament..

I am glad to see this list -- was thinking of something like this recently after reading a book about Noah's ark, Gilgamesh and so on, which briefly mentioned one of these books.
How many of them still exist? It would be interesting to read more about the documents on the OP's list. Is there a book or two written about the subject? Any recommendations? -

My sister was invited to a Judicial Committee
by opusdei1972 intoday i called to my sister and she told me that two elders went to her house to announce her that a judicial committe is waiting her in the kingdom hall this friday.
she told them that she will confirm if she will go.
however, i have told her that she shouldn't go, instead she should ask them to write a formal letter, with signatures, asking her for which charges she should be submitted in a private room with two men (or three?

Oh dear. I'm so sorry. I seem to have a conflict in my schedule. I won't be able to make it this year. In fact, I haven't been able to attend any of your little events, even though the invitations are so enticing, for let's see now, the last 33 years. -

TO THE STUPID ATHEISTS:
by atheist_R_stupid inbeing that this is not "ex jws" and in fact, more driven by atheists talking a bunch of crap, im not even going to address you people like you know anything about jws because you dont.
nor am i going to assume you know the bible because none of you do.. and yes, im speaking down at you all because you men have actually went out your way to make a site to speak down at an entire group of people.
yet i bet you cant even handle a single uswer talking down at you, like you talk down about jws can you?.

Well, I think this is more of a Miss Manners kind of problem. When someone in a group blurts out something so ignorant, so idiotic, so abysmally embarrassing, if the person were capable of embarrassment, the kind and polite thing to do is pretend he/she never said it at all. Turn to your neighbor and ask how his roses are doing. Has he tried Epsom salts which you've heard some gardeners use? Or, as kind Nicolau did, mention a really good restaurant meal and change the direction of the conversation. It gives theasshole, er, poor unthinking person, a chance to recover his balance and save face. -

Informative and interesting website recommendations please.
by nicolaou ini've got into a bit of a rut visiting the same half dozen or so sites most of the time.
i'd love to hear your suggestions for good sites featuring popular science (esp' astronomy and evolutionary biology), natural history, poetry and english literature.
and anything fun and surprising you might like to spring on me would be welcome too!

Thought I would introduce myself
by WateredDown ini have read the site with great interest over the last few weeks.
some interesting stuff thats for sure.. i have left the jehovah's witnesses (was almost going to say the 'truth') for some time now.
i was one of the lucky ones that was baptised then faded, no humiliating disfellowshipping but nonetheless was very hard to get myself out.

I've been out for over 30 years. It seems the more they change, the less they change. They're more cultish, the wtbts, and more rigid, and more blatantly manipulative. And the doctrines seem to keep changing little by little. I think it's amazing that 1975 has just disappeared as far as the wtbts is concerned. The website seems ideal for them, jwdotorg, because nothing's in book/paper print. They can change at will, and the former teaching just disappears. But overall, it's the same old bullshit.
ETA: I changed the name of the wtbts website because typing it correctly automatically creates a link to it! I don't want to give them free advertising.

Site update: Jan 17, 2015
by Simon insome quick updates, mostly cosmetic:.
the message sending form should display better feedback of why a message is invalid (which will prevent the send button becoming active).. if your status is telling you that you have unread messages then you should see an option in the 'inbox' page to reset the count / mark all messages read.
just press it once, be patient - marking the actual messages is done in the background.. the topic and post counts are being updated - some will still be incorrect while it processes the data but after that should be correct.

Thanks for the "mark all messages read" doodad.
Now, may we please have a way to delete all those old messages? No point in having them hang around, and I'm sure it would free up some space on your site.
Thanks!
