Mind your own business. Live and let live. Besides, the thought of how much he is worrying about whether you will rat him out ought to be enough for you. And whenever you see him in the future, you can give him a slow wink and smile.

Would you rat out an Elder
by pratt1 inthis weekend i accompanied a few friends to a strip club in manhattan.
my wife doesn't like it too much, but since i promised her that a lap dance is asfar as i will go with a stripper, she tolorates it.. imagine my surprise when i noticed that an elder from my old congo was there along with several of his co-workers.. he tried to ignore me but before we left i stopped by his table and said hello.. he actually had the nerve to ask me if it was okay for us to speak.
i said since we were both in a strip club, it didn't matter.. my question - should i mention this to dubs i still maintain relationships with, who incidently worship the ground this elder walks on?.

I imagine if he only had a knife he wouldn't have been able to kill 32 people before killing himself. All of this stuff is pretty scary.

My JW sister wants her mom and siblings to pay for HER retirement!
by Who are you? inkind of long...thanks in advance for letting me vent!.
my sister has been a jw since 1974. she's been waiting for the end of this "system of things" since the fall of 1975. she never went to college.
she has had probably 80 or more jobs since 1974. she has no retirement savings.

and for heaven's sake, leave the elders out of it. They'll just side with the sister, and confuse things. It's none of their business anyway. If you think the elders have the job of straightening out JWs, you are sadly mistaken. They won't do it for you.

here's my opinion:
take your mother to an attorney and set up a revocable living trust with yourself and your brother as trustee and successor trustee. The trust becomes irrevocable on your mother's death. Then find out how much it costs to have someone take care of your mother in her home. You may find it is worth your while to quit focusing on how much you dislike your sister's lifestyle and let her live there so your mother has someone there at night. It could be win/win - your sister has a place to stay and your mother has a companion. If you take over the finances and pay the bills, your sister can't get her hands on the money and waste it, therefore it will be used to help your mother and then divided equably at her death.
you'll find when your mother dies that you are glad you took the high road. Don't use your mother's need as an opportunity to score off your sister. I had bad relations with my sister, but when my mother was dying I thought it was a bad time to hold a grudge and we restored our relationship. It isn't perfect, but at least we are friendly and have let bygones be bygones. and when my mother died, I was the trustee and I made sure that everything was done openly and fairly.

that was really interesting - seeing CT Russell and hearing him speak. SOS as far as doctrine goes. I remember hearing exactly those same words over and over as a kid.

"only those with a fault-finding attitude would be privy to such information"
in a skewed logic sort of way, that makes sense. They just make it sound like a bad thing when it isn't. It isn't fault-finding, it's doubt looking for truth.

Bill Cosby has always said things like this. Years ago I watched him give a commencement speech on CSpan. He said the same sorts of things. I have a great deal of respect for him. One of the things I like is that he used his television show for education. In fact, the only idea I have of how a healthy family might work is from watching his show, as my own family was incredibly screwed up and most television families are also. I hope black people listen to him - "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, But in ourselves, that we are underlings."

Thanks! I like a good joke, even if I'm the joke. In fact, here's a funny story - I laugh every time I think about it. I was living alone in an old neighborhood in San Diego. I woke up to find someone trying to climb in my bedroom window. I called the police - they asked the problem and my name and address and then asked if I had a gun. I said, "oh no, do I have to shoot him myself?"
After the dispatcher picked herself off the floor she explained to me that they just wanted to be sure I wasn't going to shoot the police officer by mistake.

If most men decided to wear a beard today, would the JW's follow?
by JH inthe jw's will say that in jesus time, it was ok to have a beard because it was their custom back then, and today jw's should not have a beard because it's not our custom to have one today.. since the world is ever changing, it will continue changing, and beards might come back and be popular once more.. it's only a cheap excuse on their part, because they will never accept beards, even if every man wore one today..

JWs are sheep, they all have to follow the dress code. I remember one poor woman who took endless criticism because she wore pants. She had badly burned legs and was very self conscious but no one gave her any slack. It was considered "proof" that she was spiritually weak. As if the early Christian women wore flowered dressed, pantyhose and medium heels.
