of course you'll be free. I faded, didn't know at the time that was what I was doing, just drifted away and didn't matter enough to anyone, I guess, for them to come after me. twenty plus years on I am still not DF or DA, just lost in the mists of time. I feel very free - and so glad I managed to get out, even if it was due to entropy.

I went to a JW "memorial" (funeral) talk on Saturday
by cruzanheart injust when i think that i will never set foot in a kingdom hall again, the father of a dear friend of mine died.
now, this friend and her husband stood firmly by our side during the hubbub surrounding my dad's suicide and the funeral we decided on (no kh, no elders, no half hour infomercial), and she was having problems with her own family, so i decided to go to his funeral talk as support for her.. nothing dramatic happened, really, but it was a good reality check.
jennie, our 13-year-old daughter, went with me and almost fell asleep from boredom and the fact that the elders were too cheap to turn the ac down to a comfortable temperature on a warm texas saturday afternoon.

Finally starting to understand faders...
by ex-nj-jw ini haven't been posting for about 2 weeks, just kinda lurking, reading other posts, but not participating because i started to feel like i had nothing interesting to add, my life experiences, personal issues were just not very interesting to others on the forum, i felt.. i also started reading coc as well as reading old posts and reviewing the links from "old timer" jwd members.
see, i never got deep into this cult, 18 years from birth to end and i was outta there!!
i never pioneered, never had the ms or elder husband, although i dated a ms, he was only 19 early 20's at best (i was only 16) but that didn't last.

dear ex-nj-jw, thanks for your post. I remember how much I learned about myself once I started reading the posts on this forum, even though I had been out of the org. for many years. I understand more than I did before, just from reading all the experiences posted here. I hope you keep posting, and I hope you can help your friend see how unfair his daughter has been treated and how much he needs to be her support. I think punishing people for a natural drive is very stupid. Teens are going to experiment with sex - so much better to be really frank and direct with them, tell them what they need to know so as to not screw up their lives. I feel sorry for that poor girl, punished so heavily for nothing much at all.

andyviw, name-calling is what people resort to when they don't have an answer. It's easier for you to call others fools than to look at what they are trying to tell you. Maybe you could be wrong? If name-calling is all you've got, you need to look at that. After all, no one has called you a fool for believing in a myth.

the freedom is wonderful - I wish JWs who are depressed and suffering would just fly the coop, they'd feel so much better. And when you get some distance and can compare JWs to other religions and to "normal" people, you can begin to see what a whacko group they really are. I love your answer to the woman who asked what cong. you are attending - you cheerfully said "I haven't attended in years!" They expect people who quit attending meetings to feel guilty and apologetic - so your answer wasn't what she expected at all, and people who are trained to give rote answers to everything can't handle an unexpected situation like that.

A blonde driving down the road sees another blonde trying to row a boat across a wheat field. The first blonde stops her car, gets out, and yells "it's idiots like you who give blondes a bad name. If I could swim I'd catch you and beat the *** out of you!"

"So she got upset about you not going to meetings..But..Could care less about a Family Tragedy.."
Yeah! Certainly her priorities are skewed - it's more important to her to hear that you are toeing the line and attending meetings than in hearing about your father's tragedy and how you are doing. Rules over people, appearance over substance, doctrine over humanity.

if he had a brain tumor and brain surgery, who knows what kind of damage was done. Both the brain tumor and the surgery could contribute to bizarre but not necessarily dangerous behavior. Why assume the worst about him? You are curious but you don't have enough information and the people around him don't want to tell you. He never hurt you or anyone that you know of, but he's a weirdo and he got removed as an elder. So everyone assumes he's a pedophile. Now, if he were posting on this forum and saying that the WTBTS did him in, removed him from his position as an elder, we would all be siding with him and saying that is just like the WTBTS. And just because he cheated on his wife a long time ago, why does the problem have to be sexual? Could be all sorts of things. I think you have to just let it go - there are lots of things in life to which we will never have the answer.
