Anyhoo, I'm offering you the latest issues of the Watchtower and Awake! magazines. I have't bothered to read them myself and have no idea what's in them, but if you take them, it'll look really good for me!
LOL! That was me. I was terrible about reading the "boring!" magazines. I was always petrified that a householder would ask whether or not I've read them. Fortunately, it never happened.

as most of you already know, the jehovah's witnesses are covering an article in their august kingdom ministry to be discussed the weeks of 8/19 and 8/26 which details how they are to shun and avoid those who are no longer members of their organization, even immediate family members.. .
undoubtedly this article has been written to reinforce to the rank&file jehovah's witnesses the shunning policy, so as to tighten the ranks and prevent members from having the opportunity to learn the abundant contradictions and hypocrisies found within watchtower doctrine and practice from any who may have left.. this policy also serves to divide families and attempt to shame or abuse those whom have chosen to no longer be jehovah's witnesses, for whatever reason.. that much is obvious.
in recent days this topic has been discussed in detail in various threads.
The reason I was posting it was I wanted to ask.. how many people on this board have suffered because of this? How many individuals who are no longer Jehovah's Witnesses and participate on this webboard have been personally affected?
I just wanted to say that I'm just inactive. Yet I've been shunned by two separate people in my congregation. I still don't know why. It seems they believe that it's "better safe than sorry." Better to shun and cover yourself rather than be -- gasp! -- nice and amicable.
if the new world hope no longer existed, would everyone leave?

what do you think the reaction of the dubs would be if the new light was no armaggedon and no "new system"?

After the glorious Thousand Year Reign -- after everyone's been converted (how could anyone say no AFTER Armageddon?) -- there will be no one to preach to. The Witnesses' minds will crash like so many Windows machines. Can there be a life after field service?
i've been talking to 2 barely active witnesses for the last 9 months or so about the truth of the organization.
the only person that they've ever confided to regarding their doubts was me.
finally, on tuesday, i gave them the book.
Sigh. I can't wait until I can afford to get this book. (Hey, I'm jus' a po' college stoodint.) I hope it's as good as they say.

for me, it's actually the book of job, which happens to be one of my favourite books.
the way job steadfastly maintains his innocence, and questions god, as well as rebuffs the three comforters (who proffer arguments along the lines of mordern apologist, although in this book they are "bad guys" ) made him my hero of sorts throughout most of the book.
if most people today questioned god the way he did, they would probably be condemned for it.
This is an interesting thread. BigRed stated (via Mulan) that 1st there has to be a willingness to believe. Why is this necessary? It's not necessary with other literature or science. Ahhhh, it's a religious thing. Therein lies the problem. You can't believe unless you believe. Huh?
This is my biggest problem with the Bible. Here's the way I think of it: The Bible should be able to proof itself on its own. But it can't. That's why people have faith. I define "faith" as "the effort it requires to believe that which would normally be perceived as unbelieveable" -- or rather, just convincing yourself.
Why do this? Because, as was stated, there has to be a willingness to believe. You have to want to believe to be able to believe.

when ever i visit with relatives that are still witnesses, i tend to hear one comment more then others.
that being, "we would really love to see your face in paradise with us.
" it might not always be in those exact words, but it is along the same thought.
Ha. This reminds me of how I thought about paradise when I was young. I thought that perfection was absolute. So I wondered, if a perfect man attempts to shoot a basketball into a goal, he will of course succeed at what he was trying to do. But if there's a defender trying to block that shot, he should succeed too, because he too is perfect. Both could not be successful! Would the paradox cause all of existence to collapse upon itself? Of course, being a good Witness youth, I simply decided to Wait on Jehovah to work it out.
i just took a look at h2o, which of course was the pioneering internet jw discussion board.
at one time, it was the place.
then this site came along, and nowadays people on h2o are debating whether there is any point in the continued existence of that site:.
