The kids in the congregation say
"But I don't wanna jump"
The teens say
"I'll jump only when you're watching me"
the dubs say;.
rank and file "oh okay".
pioneer "how high?".
The kids in the congregation say
"But I don't wanna jump"
The teens say
"I'll jump only when you're watching me"
....or is this mostly an exaggeration from the witnesses?.
I have the 1918 edition of the Finished Mystery. Ray Franz mentions pages 247-253 being the offending seditious statements which were cut out of later editions.
Reading through these pages I can almost hear Rutherfords voice. He is not only critical of war in general but specifically the world war going on at the time. He heavily criticises the cost of the war and the military and naval experts, laying blame firmly at their feet and at the feet of the clergy for the conflict.
"The most virulent and devastating disease of humanity now raging on the earth is militarism" pg 248
"Everything in Germany, Italy, Austria, England and Russia is held back by the confuscation of the proceeds of industry carried on for the support of the army and navy. In the United States the development of our resourses is checked by this same fatal policy" pg 249
"The Anti-Christ doctrine of the Divine right of the clergy was the direct cause of the great war" pg 251
To be honest I find Rutherford's statements mild compared to some of the blatant statements made by the Society on other issues since that time. But I guess sensitivities were running understandably high in 1918 and any dissention or discouragement of the war effort was seen as seditious - or even treasonous.
Brother swore on the platform. He was in the middle of a public talk describing the red sea of Moses day. Got to the part where the egyptians were chasing the israelites across the dry sea and said in a big voice, "and the whole bloody lot fell on their heads!" The congregaton cracked up...
One of the better talks
so after the meeting yesterday we went for coffee, nice group.
two baptized more than 40 years, one baptized 20 years, one baptized 11 years, and one study that was invited.. someone had picked up the 6/15 wt so i said, "wow, what do you think about new light?
" they said, "what new light?
LOL! The cognitive dissonance you caused there bonafide is obvious. All those "mature" long-term witnesses and they still didn't get it??. Boy you must have frightened 'em bigtime. I bet they'll either scurry back to their WT's and check what you said or block out your words and slip right back into the mental comfort zone. Either way, you done good bro.
this one has an important article on the faithful steward and the governing body.
cannot find one anywhere.... .
thank you in advance!.
Good point Ynot! Also doesn't the scriptures describe "the majority" disciplining someone in the congregation? So doesn't this conclude that there was a minority that chose NOT to share in the discipline? Can't remember where that scripture is.....
How does this apply only to the body of elders? It doesnt. Its talking about all the congregation, not just a select few.
Talk about going beyond what was written.....
after many, many years outside of the jw world, my elderly parents finally decided to give me an ultimatum.
i either rejoin the jw's or they will never speak with me again.
apparently my brother is going to get the same choice.
"IN FACT IT IS ALTOGETHER FOREIGN TO BIBLE TEACHINGS"!!!!!!
WHAT THE.....
I can't believe they actually said that all those years ago! My God, what absolute hypocrites they are.
Nice find civicsi100
let me first say that i believe in god, in jesus and the holy spirit.
therefore to hear the watchtower liken us who have been df, ( in our case asking questions about u.n. paedophiles 607 etc ) liken us to the first apostate the devil i find them judgmental in the extreme, not surprised but very offensive.. thanks to "flipper" with his thread i have decided to ban my brother in law from coming to my home, this year he intends to come over from spain where the need is great, ............the wine.and the beaches very nice too.. he is going to visit his mother who now because of dementia lives with us.. he will not be allowed on my premises at all, he will pick mum up at the front gate.. as a witness you must accept what the so called boffins tell you.. therefore if he can align himself with thinking that way, of his sister and myself then he is not welcome.. i will only accept him in my home when he gets out of her (babylon the great).
kt.
Yes but there are limits. KT's brother in law doesn't take care of his mother like he should. He's left that responsibility to KT and his wife. At the same time this BIL is being told that KT and wife show the characteristics of satan and don't care for "victims of calamity" a per the latest Watchtower.
Meanwhile dear BIL is off serving where the need is greater, the sun is shining and the wine flowing - spain. So I can understand KT's frustration with this situation.
KT. Why don't you have a frank discussion with your BIL and make your feelings known? Then if BIL agrees with the latest Watchtower poison, you are perfectly entitled to refuse him entry on your property.
have you read this book?
mindful eating: a guide to rediscovering a healthy and joyful relationship with food (paperback), by jan chozen bays (author).
mr. rebel8 and i are reading it right now to eat healthier.
Boyzone, you purged when you were a jw? Or you were just really stressed out?
Both. Bringing 4 kids up in the "truth" along with a hubby that was a brother but only just. Very conscientious of all the reminders to pioneer, look after the house, stay in submission, study the WT, study with the kids, do field service, read the mags, etc etc...you know the drill.
Life totally out of my control. The only thing I could do was eat. And boy was I good at it! Then of course after eating loads the usual guilt and self loathing sets in, thats when I could get some control back by purging. Always felt better after.
With the amount of sisters I see struggling with their weight I wonder if there's a few more with this problem. In my area, there is alot of sisters that have steadily gained weight over the last 5 years.
For me, the major cure was to leave the Witnesses. It doesn't cure the bulimia but it gave me back control of my life which went a long way in helping me lose the 5 stone and keep it off.
Now healthy eating is so good. There are so many good products out there to help you that I'm really enjoying experimenting with a few ingredients. Spenda has helped with the sugar cravings. Nice on some hot oats with a fat free natural yogurt and raspberries.
No bread or potatoes though, give me gas.
there were 20 in the group from 3 congregations.
it was kind of a "special talk" special meal with the speaker and his wife.. no one, i mean no one, not the elders there, nor the pioneers, talked about anything "spiritual.
" everything was about work, entertainment, personalities in the congregation, and music.
Thats refreshing.....sounds like the special talk special meal was miles better than the special talk ever was.
we went to our granddaughters birthday party this weekend (my wife's first ever).... and no one was beheaded.... i kept waiting for someone to call for the head of so and so, but alas, we'll have to wait for the next one.. .
.
darth fader.
I went to a birthday with a beheading once. Bit the head right off an iced teddy bear. Yum.
