Trust in Jehovah in these hard economic times--but send us money
by Bonnie_Clyde inclyde has heard from two sources that a letter was read at the meeting last week.
after encouragement to trust in jehovah, they suggested that each publisher send about $5.70 to the society each month to help support the organization.
that's the way he heard it.

Howard was not df'd. I know a guy who is in the same congregation as him in Perris, CA. He is still an elder I guess.

TheListener, you have stories of Park? I'd love to hear them. I've had him lately and I'm underwhelmed to say the least.

Fading In? Am I nuts?
by jaydoe ini am a baptized jw that faded some years back.
in those days i deeply believed in the org and became disillusioned by some things happening in the local congregation.
following some research on the net i decided to fade out of watchtower existence because i did not want to keep mixing with false religion (or so i thought at the time).

I have visited anti-JW sites for many years. Mainly out of curiosity and entertainment. I am not questioning all of what is claimed as being false but I guess I rather question the importance of the things brought up as such BIG issues and the motive behind all of this antipathy. As regards being able to come back on your own terms or not march to the tune of the local body of elders, I think you can do it. I think many people do. And that is their choice. No, they won't be set up in the congregation as some outstanding example for the rest which I don'[t think they would mind anyways. Surfrusty

If you feel so inclined and you are not being coerced by anything or anyone to go back maybe you should. No you are not going nuts. You just might be on the wrong forum. I wouldn't give too much credence to most of the extremely exagerated criticisms and urban legends about the organization. There is a measure of truth to some of it but most has been bloated beyond recognition for personal reasons. Surfrusty

Watchtower never took preaching work seriously!!
by proplog2 inthere has been a lot of discussion about the claim that the gb feel they have fullfilled their obligation to preach.. this would be no surprise.
jesus said if you want to really do what is right you need to sell your property and give to the poor.
and then... you could follow jesus.. after pentecost there was an arrangement where an individual could sell his property and give the proceeds to the apostles.

First of all. Do you really want it beamed everwhere???? There is alot of things to criticize but I find this one a bit weak.
First of all, your example of the christians after Pentecost is not directly applicable to this argument. They sold some of their property with the purpose to provide for the Jewish proselytes in Jerusalem at that time. There is no indication that this situation continued after they all went home. Neither is there any indication in the NT that the average christian had sold all of their belongings. Right or wrong I think they haven't used more modern forms spread the message because of an overly emphasizing the doorstep visits. Because of that, one it would seem could argue of the wisdom of that choice but hardly the effort put into it. -
