Hunting was taboo.
Fishing was acceptable.
one cong nearby:
hunting was accepted by some pushy loud people - hence the rest of the cong did not mind
fishing too was acceptable

A Million Questions
by ConcernedMom inhi, i have been lurking at this site and a few other jw or xjw sites in search of some clarity but i am just getting more confused...
my 15 year old daughter has been dating a 17 year old jw for about 2 1/2 months.
he seems like a very nice kid--very shy (he is just starting to talk around me now...still not too much to my husband).

Hopeful, I would start a new thread and describe your situation again. Not too many people are going to go looking in a 2.5 year old thread.

Hulk Hogan (NYC, NY) - Really big guy, I think bicep is as big as my head (maybe bigger). Nice personality.
Weird Al Yankovic (Portland, ME) - He didn't seem as weird as I thought he would be.
(almost met) Andre the Giant (connecticut) - he left the restaurant just before we arrived. We saw a crowd of people outside, but we went inside instead. Then found out that it was Andre outside, bummer! -

Yes, it happened in a neighboring congregation and my cong changed how we did the accounts because of them.
Before: it was always locked, so people could put monies in it from service donation during the week.
After: it was only locked during the meeting, after being counted it was left open so everyone could see there wasnt anything inside.
I was the accounts servant in my old cong for 4 years.
Judging from 5 other brothers having it in 2 years with many problems, I was the best.
I never had any problems with people stealing.
I did have problems with certain elders not being able to keep track of one little stupid slip of paper!
(for those that don't know, a co-signer takes the carbon copy each meeting and gives it to the Secretary- unless they loose it) -

Is it possible to have a intellegent conversation with a JW?
by A-Team inmeaning:
not resorting to name calling, yelling, belittling ones religion, being able to express your ideas, etc.
also, are there any active jw forums that non/ex jws go, and preach the gospel to the jws?

I am also a JW.
I believe I can hold an intelligent conversation also. -

So, I would conclude that you were given an application at one time?

Interesting. I have never even heard of a GB Application Form.
Where would one pick this up? Assemblies, Conventions, tour of Brooklyn Bethel? -

My dad was not a JW, but he stuck around for 7 or 8 years.
He did not like celebrating holidays by himself, so he left and found someone who would celebrate them.
My mom was big on not saying bad things about my dad. She said, "eventually you will see what is the true personality."
However, I did not have good experiences with my dad. He was very unreasonable. He could only see his point (of course it had no flaws). Somehow, I seem to be coming to his conclusions - 15 years later. Strange. -

Ron Frye's book on Elder Confidentiality
by Confession ini'm still making my way through what is an excellent book by ron frye, former jw and c.o.
i found one of his comments interesting.
on page 68 he speaks affectionately of his wife mavis.... "i especially depended on her because she was observant and discerning.

I am not an Elder, but I did know of Elders in my previous congregation that would do that. The reason I know this - their wives did not have confidentiality. Hence, whatever you told him became public knowledge regardless of how confidential it WAS.

Will Lack of Leadership Sink the JW Ship?
by Seeker4 ini see serious problems with the leadership of the witnesses on two important levels: locally, in smaller bodies of elders with marginally qualified men carrying heavier workloads, and internationally in a lackluster and unimaginative governing body.
there are no nathan knorrs, or fred or ray franz's in this pathetic group!
first, the local elders: .
