Thoughts and Opinions on the VAA?
by arko_n9ne inas i've posted multiple times before, i am new to many of the aspects of wts scandals so a couple weeks ago, i was on youtube and heard of a group concept from tim kilgore called the vaa (vast apostate army).. personally, i like the concept of former witnesses and anti-watchtower proponents uniting to stand against the wrong doings of the organization.
i would like their rally in a few years to succeed.
if things look promising enough, i more than likely will go.. but honestly, i don't know much about the vaa, and since it's not a concept with that "new car smell" i imagine people have more infor to offer.. i saw on older posts that witnesses are not fans of the idea of anyone banding together en masse against them, as they go to the lengths of calling the vaa a terrorist organization (though no acts of violence or tyranny have been committed or threatened).. so if anyone can offer insight into this group, it would help a man know if it's a group worth rallying with.. .

Another day, another apostate. Here's my story.
by I Want to Believe inbeen lurking for a bit, and feel safe enough now to tell my story (condensed).. i'm a third-generation born-in, but my parents were inactive for most of my upbringing.
this means i got the worst of both worlds--no worldly friends (home schooled all but grades 2-3), no witness friends (since we never went to the hall except for memorial), and a generally isolated upbringing in a tiny, tiny town.
needless to say, my emotional, social, and personal growth were stunted.

I sent the link for this thread to one of my ex-jw friends in Alaska via private message on Facebook. Hopefully she'll be contacting you soon via private message here on JWN. Let me know if you don't hear from her, because there are others in Alaska.

Welcome! I know I have ex-jw Facebook friends in Alaska, but I can't for the life of me remember their names. I'll do some checking, and send you a pm when I find someone.

Before you go jumping into another religion, please take some time to get to know yourself. First of all, consider your age, marital status, and type of pornography that you think you're addicted to. You may want to work this out with a therapist. Then consider what type of profession you would like to pursue. If it's not a trade, then get yourself enrolled in college. The reccommended reading list of books by Ray Franz and Steve Hassan is a good one to start. Most of all, just take your time to make good decisions. Now is NOT the time to panic.
The kind of porn you view and whether or not you're addicted to it is ot my business. But if you're like many other young men who have posted here, just watching human beings having vanilla sex drove them mad with guilt. The same goes for masturbation. The Watchtower turns young people against their own bodies. It is normal for people to express their sexuality. If one doesn't do so, then a substitute will always be found. Do some research on masturbation and the type of porn you prefer. Find out if science say it is perverted or unnatural, (ie with animals, children, rape, etc).

My 18-yr old college freshman nephew has just been cut off for leaving the JWs...
by Alfred ini spoke about him in a previous thread... he's the nicest kid you'll ever meet... smart, humble, shows respect and is very kind to everyone around him... except for one minor thing... you guessed it... he no longer believes in the jw religion.
also, he feels it is simply a place for hopeless people to gather and give each other moral support without actually doing anything productive to better their lives... i won't get into the details on how he arrived at this conclusion... suffice to say, he did not want to be a part of this crowd any longer.. incredibly, when he was a lot younger, he was able to convince his jw father (a po) and his jw mother (my sister) that they should let him go to college when he turns 18 (and help him pay for it!!!).
so they started putting some money away and my nephew has been in college since september!.

New one
by freshcrepes ini've been lurking on this forum for over a year, and i thought i'd say a quick hello.. .
i was raised as a jehovah's witness and managed to endure past the encouragement that one receives from age 16 onwards about what is holding me back, and never got baptised.
i figured that making one of the most important decisions of my life requires a lot more thought than people seemed to be giving it, and shouldn't be based on emotion as is quite common.. .
