What about the invisible spiritual paradise? It is dangled as a carrot almost as much as the literal paradise is.

What makes a JW a true DUB?
by darth frosty ini was going to do this as a serious post about the core beliefs of witnesses (whether the r&f understand them or not.).
but, that would be boring.
instead what makes a person an acceptable dub and associate for most witnesses?

Submitting too while also ignoring the "man behind the curtain".

Do JWs really believe the end is near?
by keyser soze inor do they merely pay lip service to the idea?
i have no doubt that some of them sincerely believe.
but when i was a kid, growing up in the '80s, i didn't know of a single witness, myself included, who didn't believe the end was close.

From what my mother was saying it seems they are skipping the step of the government turning on all religion. I'm not sure if this is a change in policy or whether it is simply just a murky issue now.
If this is true, I wonder if the WTB&TS is skipping the step of the government turning on all religion and jumping right to persecution of the jws in order to explain all of the sex abuse and blood issue lawsuits to the rank and file.
Welcome to the board, btw. Yes, many people who are out have fears and nightmares about Armageddon. It wears off after a while.

Got my wisdom teeth out two weeks ago
by jstalin in.... and it still hurts.
i woke up last night at 1am and couldn't get back to sleep until i took more ibuprofin.
i was hoping the pain would be gone by now.

You may want to have a check up with your dentist or oral surgeon. I don't think it should still be painful after two weeks--maybe infection has set in. I had two impacted wisdom teeth surgically removed, and although one half of my face was bruised for a few weeks, the pain went away within about 5 days.

Did you find worldly people as bad as the JW's made them out to be??
by karter inas a jw we were always told worldly people were bad always out for what they could get out of you.
as for me iv'e made some good friends not anything as bad as the jw's said they woul'd be.
what about you ?????????

I, too became a jw during a vulnerable, impressionable time in my life, so I believed the "worldly people are bad" mantra. But when it came down to it, "worldly" people saved my life. My co-workers and supervisor helped me when my crazy jw husband was threatening to kill me. "Worldly" doctors and judges had him committed to a mental institution twice to keep him from harming me, while the "spiritual" elders chastized me for not being a good enough wife and faithful servant of Jehovah. The only "worldly" people who I know to be evil are the ones who are zealots for their beliefs as the jws are for theirs.

JW wife says she loves me more often NOW???? Should I test that?
by oompa ini was pm with a@g and have with others here in the one-in-one-out marriage situation, and have a question.
time flies.....i have been considered apostate for at least two years now, and it seems my wife says she loves me all the time....almost makes me uncomfortable.
i have changed, not her, and i realize that.
-
jamiebowers
I am not, nor have I ever been in your situation. But IMHO, your wife may be saying, "I love you" more now that you are an apostate, because she is afraid of losing you completely. Whether she chooses the WTB&TS over you or not, I don't think it's right to push her too hard, because that's what the cult is doing to her. Unless there is some aspect of your relationship that you simply can't tolerate, then be as kind to her as you possibly can. Its easier to draw flies with honey than it is with vinegar. Good luck to you. I am so sorry you're living this way. I can't imagine how difficult it must be.

I have received 2 pm's from someone who has never posted before and still hasn't. He was commenting on a comment I had made on a thread. I am not suspicious, because I think some people may just want a one to one contact before putting themselves out there to everyone.

I wrote the following letter and will be sending it to my school board, superintendent, principals of the middle and high schools and the high school civics teachers. If anyone has any additions/corrections or wants to use it for their own school system please feel free. Writing such a letter was prompted by the post found here: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/159208/1.ashx that reads:
If your child is in middle or high school, please contact his teacher or school administrator to request that his school participate in the "Community Classroom" program sponsored by PBS and the Independent Television Service.
KNOCKING has selected for "Community Classroom" and will be offered to public schools across the United States for free.
The story lines in KNOCKING have been developed into a curriculum with supporting video modules from the film. Educational content was created with guidance from the National Council for the Social Studies, the National Association for Multicultural Education and PBS Teachers. The content will use the story of Jehovah's Witnesses to educate students on civil liberties, religious tolerance, medical ethics and standing for what you believe.
For more information about how your child's school can participate, please visit this link: http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/classroom/knocking.html
To request a free copy of the video modules and educational materials, contact [email protected] (Be sure to mention KNOCKING in your correspondence)
You may want to bring this to your teacher's attention now, in the final weeks of the school year, and remind him again in the fall.
FYI: The free DVD only has short segments from the film, each under 10 minutes long, that correspond with the educational curriculum to facilitate classroom discussion.
To order the film in its entirety, go to www.knocking.org KNOCKING is also available in Spanish at www.llamando.org
Please forward this information.
MY LETTER IN RESPONSE
I recently learned that excerpts of the documentary entitled “Knocking” are now being included in the Community Classroom program sponsored by PBS and the Independent Television Service and will be offered to public schools across the United States for free. The content includes the story of Jehovah's Witnesses to educate students on civil liberties, religious tolerance, medical ethics and standing for what you believe.
Our school system very well may be solicited by Jehovah's Witnesses to permit the use of “Knocking”, and I respectfully request your careful consideration of this important matter. Although Jehovah's Witnesses and their leadership known as the corporation of the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society have a reputation for their litigiousness regarding freedom of religion and speech in the past, they have recently been embroiled in court cases of a different nature.
In February 2007, nine lawsuits involving 16 victims of sexual abuse were settled with Jehovah's Witnesses and the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society. A gag order was placed on the victims. For at least the past six years, child molestation within and the cover-up of such by the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses has been in the news. Please see the following links for more information:
http://www.silentlambs.org/education/multimedia.cfm
http://www.watchtowerdocuments.com/downloads/Secrets_Commentary_Version_2.pdf
Many court documents and news events prove that Jehovah's Witnesses require two witnesses when a child comes forward with allegations of molestation within the congregation. Such allegations have customarily been treated as sins instead of crimes and are only reported to authorities when it is required to do so by law, (which varies by state). It has also been shown that child molesters within the organization usually have not been identified to the congregation members or the public at large. These people engage in a door to door ministry, possibly exposing children to pedophiles. Although the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society claims that known pedophiles are accompanied by a non-pedophile in such work, there is no law stating that such a practice must be followed.
If our school system finds it beneficial to introduce children to Jehovah's Witnesses through a Watchtower Bible & Tract Society-friendly lens, I hope the school administration at least gives a well-balanced view of this organization by also discussing their current legal problems. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
