Would Witnesses Go Out in Ministry if They Didn't Allow Counting Time?
by flipper inhey folks.
mr. flipper here.
when i was a witness , like a lot of you, remember we'd all scramble around at the end of the month asking each other, ( or your book study conductor would remind you) to turn our time in for field ministry ?

Dateline predators will NOT be prosecuted
by candidlynuts intexas da won't prosecute any pedophiles nabbed in nbc 'predator' showthursday, june 28, 2007. .
murphy, texas a sting in which police teamed up with "dateline nbc" to catch online pedophiles was supposed to send a flinty-eyed, texas-style warning about this dallas suburb: don't mess with murphy.. instead, it has turned into a fiasco.. one of the 25 men caught in the sting a prosecutor from a neighboring county committed suicide when police came to arrest him.
the murphy city manager who approved the operation lost his job in the ensuing furor.. and the district attorney is refusing to prosecute any of the men, saying many of the cases were tainted by the involvement of amateurs.. "certainly these people should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, but the fact that this was all done for television cameras raises some questions," said mayor bret baldwin.. it is the first time in nine "dateline nbc: to catch a predator" stings across the country in the past year and a half that prosecutors did not pursue charges.. "dateline" has made prime-time entertainment out of contacting would-be child molesters over the internet, luring them to a meeting place, and videotaping their humiliating confrontations with reporter chris hansen.. (story continues below).

I don't have a problem with these types of stings at all so long as the police don't initiate the sexual talk or encourage it. In fact, there should be more of them. However, I think there is a big problem when this type of perversion is made out to be entertainment. The voyeuristic element creeps me out. I don't think it's good for society. That kind of thing should be between law enforcement and the criminals. I never watch those shows, by the way.

I think participation in field service would drop immediately by about 50% in terms of people that take part in it. The pioneers would definitely stop putting in all that time in service. I think about half of all publishers go out in service at least once a month because (a) they want to keep the elder off of their backs, and/or (b) they think it's a requirement to survive Armageddon.
I think at least half of all publishers would still get out at least once a month because either (a) they think it really is a life-saving work and/or (b) they want to appear to be more spiritual than everybody else. However, if the society genuinely stopped pushing service and eliminated it as a requirement for any "privilege," my guess is that in a few years virtually no one would take part in it.

The Texas Supreme Court is one of the most conservative in the country. Texas judges are elected, including the Supreme Court. They've never met a defendant in a civil case they don't like. This decision is just a further attempt to restrict the ability of plaintiffs to sue and recover money in a civil case. I doubt they gave the matter any serious thought. Their prime motivation is limiting the amount of successful lawsuit that can be brought. The case could have turned out different in another less-conservative jurisdiction. In any case, it looks like the society is off the hook in Texas. This case is not binding anywhere else in the country, however.

I think I may know how the JWs came up with the 607 BCE date...
by A-Team inand it's really simple and silly error, if you are not careful...but the main mistake is hiding the error.
they counted the wrong way from 597 bce, the year that zedekiah's reign as king of judah started.
once someone inside the wts caught wind of this error, they had to change the date of zedekiah's reign from 597 bce to 617 bce, to make their entire theology fit, or their theology whould have been shot to bits.

That kind of thing throws me off all the time. I see an avatar with a woman and the user is really a man or vice versa. Some users have female screen names but are really men and vice versa. It's hard to keep up. I hope no one thinks I'm a tree.

Another update.
by R.F. injust wanted to fill you all in on what's been going on with me lately....... well it's been about a month and a half and i've been to 2 congregation meetings within that time span.
i've gotten no calls from any of the elders accept two, and they might've called twice each at the most, but it does seem like they're inquiring about me through another person at the moment.
but either way, i feel im on the right track with fading, and i really don't care about what the elders think anymore, or any other jw for that matter.. my dad who was on my case hard at first has backed off.

I agree that we as Americans tend to lose a sense of global perspective when we consider out lot in life, but this is pro-Bush propaganda.
Shut off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage.
Conservatives consider television news, Newsweek and New York Times to be liberal medial outlets. The underlying theme is "Hey, our life is great. George W. Bush is not really doing that bad of a job. Quit bitching." I'm not buying it.

These people were truly crazy. Picture a 15 year old kid waking up at 5:00 a.m. in the morning to get ready to go preaching because a pioneer promised to pick him up at 6:00 a.m. Six rolls around and nobody drops by. Fifteen, twenty minutes pass and still nothing. The 15 year old changes back to his pj's and goes back to sleep. Around 7:30 the pioneer finally shows up and acts like nothing's happened. The 15 year old just shrugs it off and gets ready for service again, only instead of going out in service he's taken to the local restaurant for breakfast where all the pioneers meet up. There was no morning service. He can't figure it out. This story repeats itself over and over. Finally, after he gets baptized and it stops. When the kid gets a little older and becomes a regular pioneer himself, he learns that he was only being taken out to service so the pioneers could count their time over breakfast. They wouldn't pick him up any earlier because they would get into heated gossip sessions and he wasn't spiritually mature enough to partake in them. You don't want to stumble anyone, you know.
Well, I was the 15 year old kid. It was sick. My supposed pioneer partner worked an afternoon shift. He was supposed to get his time in by going out early in the morning. That's was the only time he had for service. I had to wake him up so many times that I finally got tired of it and stopped. He rarely went out on the weekends because that was party time. Come August, he had finished his times several weeks before I did, phantom hours, I suppose. There was another pioneer who I never saw out in service. I saw an elder/pioneer open his planner and write down 3's for about 7 days in a row. He didn't bother to check how much time he actually had. One time we were out in service for about two hours and he told me to write down three because we were pioneers. I was shocked that a lot of these pioneers had no regular day and time set for their Bible studies. They would just show up when convenient and guilt trip them into dropping what they were doing to accommodate their schedules. I was sickened by what I saw. Thankfully, all of that caused my faith in JWism to weaken, which in turn led me to have doubts.
Sorry for hijacking your thread.

Which reminds me, there were some crazy pioneers at my congregation. They kept justifying all the weird stuff they did out in service by saying that they were allowed to do that because they were told they could at the superspecial pioneer school they attended. They had information that not even the elders had! Whoopty Doo.
I couldn't wait to go to the pioneer school to get all of this "top secret" insider information. When I went, I was really disappointed to find out that there was no such special instructions being given. That was just an excuse these crazy people used to justify all of the crap they tried to pass off for field service. For instance, they'd spend an hour or more at a restaurant, leave a tract, and count the entire time as field service. They would also find an unbaptized publisher to tag along with them to the local shopping mall and count several hours because they were supposedly preaching to them. It was insane. The year and a half that I was a regular pioneer was one of the low points of my life.
