I just went through this with my son (he's 19), we live in VA and someone in California charged $600 at K-Mart from his checking account. How they got his info??? I have no clue. The bank did credit his account after an investigation an 30 days!!!!

What do you do with your time???

well, now that you are out of the organization, what do you do with the time you gained?

let's see how much time we gained.. assuming you were a publisher you spend at least 2 hours in service 3 saturdays a month plus the service meeting and drive time to and from the kh, let's call that 10 hours a month.. 5 meetings a week plus "fellowshipping" before, after and drive time, let's call that another 40 hours a month.. then there was meeting prep.

another 8 hours a month.

I use the time to do whatever I want, when I want without someone or some org telling me what I should be doing!!

Well it sounds to me just like any normal problems that everyone in their family has. I've seen o many people, including neighbors go thru this and much worse. I don't see what the big deal is trying to blame those problems on religion. Wow, so you got yelled at. Welcome to a world were people yelling at each other is a common issue, not only that but also in most cases abuse either physical or emotional. I mean haven't you looked around at the world to see this?

WRONG, WRONG and WRONG again. The JW's are known for abusing children and spouses, women are second class, their wrong doings are continuously covered up, and they are notorious for breaking up families. Such Christians they are!!!

I'm sorry you are going through this, but maybe you should just back off of your children (as hard as this may be) and give them room to discover this religion for what it really is. You dont have to take the abuse from them!!

And if they try the shunning bit, shun them in return. They don't like it when they are shunned, doesn't give them the same feeling of control. Try it!

I agree with purps - sometimes as hard as you try they just don't get the picture!!

And going off the deep end is the only reaction you have left, I know you wish it hadn't happend that way but sound like he frustrated you so much there was nothing left to do!!

omg, dad's been calling all day and i've been hiding.

hubby's finally called him to tell him we don't want to talk about it.

after hubby had been on the phone with him for almost an hour (he was on the phone outside while i was inside cooking), i hear my dad's voice!

OK, I know I'm a little late and I hope everything turned out ok.

I do want to say that YOU have to stand up to your parents, not your hubby. Your dad needs to be put in his place now before he comes between you and your hubby. My dad tried to do the same with my husband and I finally put my foot down, told him that neither of us was interested in the JW org, would never be and if he did not stop, I'd SHUN HIM instead of him shunning me!!!

I cut off ties with them for 3 years, no talking no visiting. My relationship with my husband grew stronger, my relationship will always be strained with my parents, but I don't care. My husband would never turn his back on me for any reason, but I can't say the same for my parents.

You are an adult - make them respect you as an adult!!!

Our son is in jail for a crime. My fam says its my fault for leaving JW's.

my wife and kids left jw's 7 years ago.

all seemed well and then last week my 20 year old son committed a crime and is now in jail 1500 miles away.

everyone that knows him says he is a good kid.

Sorry to hear about your son. Please don't blame yourself and most of all be there for your son!!!

Don't expect too much in the way of support from your family (JW's), they will obviously use this as a tool to "make you see the light, and come back to the org". It's all a control game, so leave them and their control issues and be a strong support for your son.

My son commited a crime at the age of 20 (he's 24 now), and was in jail. My JW family (mom mostly) blamed me in the same way. My husband and I dealt with the situation on our own, my son learned a very valuable lesson from his experience and hopefully he will not make the same mistake twice.

Sometimes we have to allow our children to learn from their own mistakes no matter how painfull it may be for us and them! Stay strong, make sure he knows that you will always love him UNCONDITIONALLY, and will be there to support him no matter what the situation, although you may be disappointed in his actions.
