paradise lost
by KAYTEE inby our actions we have missed paradise!!!.
my wifes parents (catholic beliefs) have lived all their lives in manchester (150 miles away from us).. six months ago my wifes father died (age91).
many trips were made to look after matters and of course to take care of her mum.. eventually, because of her age (92) and dementia coming on, we have brought her down to live with us.

Do some people deserve to be Jehovah's Witnesses?
by I quit! ini remember one time i was having a discussion with a jw who kept lying and twisting things to support his believe and i finally told him he deserved to be a jehovah's witness.
his reply kind of shocked me.

I agree with scarred for life. Some people wouldn't know how to live without the direction the JW's live with. They have to have all the answers, a strict schedule and rules, rules, rules or they just can't function.
My two brothers are a prefect example, it keeps them in line.

Why is it that the JW expects the other party to give up and make changes to their life? What does the JW give up and if you have to ask or expect someone to give up something or some way of life, is that really love?

Novel twist on why the meeting format has changed...
by sir82 in...per the elder giving the local needs part last night on the importance of family study & not "wasting" our newly found free time:.
(paraphrase) "we are being trained to cover our weekly assigned material in a shorter period of time.
prior to this change, it took nearly 5 hours to cover a week's worth of material from the fds.

given that wt doctrine holds that jah is not omnipresent, and jesus is of course just a lowly angel who doesn't even have "holy spirit" at his disposal let alone omnipresence, how can it be said they are "present invisibly" at the meetings?.
since they are not omnipresent and can't be at every meeting, how can it be said that by not attending meetings jws are "snubbing them"?.

Honestly, Would You Have Secretly Taken a Blood Transfusion?
by minimus inwhile i was an active jw elder, i wouldn't have up until that last year.
that's when i was totally mentally out, just going thru the technicalities.
i still respect other jw's viewpoints on their not accepting blood----although i think they are terribly misguided.

When I was 13 I had emergency surgery and when I went to the OR still awake I asked the nurse if she would give me blood if I needed it? She said your parents don't want you to have blood sweetie but I can ask again. I didn't want them to know I had asked for it, I just thought if I said yes they would give it to me. The nurse told the physician and the last thing I remembered before going to sleep was him saying don't worry about it I'll take good care of you and I'll see you when you wake up.
Turns out I didn't need it, my stupid parents would have let me die.

Suggestions for material for family study night?

given the extra night is supposed to be for a family study night; any suggestions as to what we could study together?

How about going out to dinner or a movie. Walking around a botanical garden or something like that. Ice skating or roller skating if you have little ones. Something fun that the family can do together. It will add to your memory (especially kids) and bring your family closer.

JW's and Others Take Heed - Child Abuse is Masked Behind Respectability
by flipper init's well been stated before when a pedophile has been found out molesting someone's child that friends and family can't believe how the allegedly "joe the respectable " friend , father, pastor, elder or ms , could possibly be molesting a child !
2 cases in point here in the sacramento, california area .
the first case a stepfather just committed murder-suicide on himself, his wife, and 2 small children .

Yeah flipper, some of these kids just make me so sad, well not the kids but their situations. I've raised 3 kids and I could never imagine them having to go through some of the things these kids have to deal with.
Mentoring is great and I highly recommend it to anyone who can. Sometimes all these kids need is a hug and to know that someone cares about them.
