decided humor was the answer........i am not a looker and have been described by one here as lookin very "normal".....and i took that as a huge compliment......but i learned early on.....at least by third grade.......that those around me liked to laugh, and that if i made them do it.......it made me feel good..."normal" maybe.......anyhoo........i have done some stand-up comedy and had fun with it (as in i did not bomb)........and written more material than i have ever used..........i think if i could have any job it would be letterman's........but would be happy just to write for him, conan, or snl..........so what did you do or not do to feel more normal as a jw kid?........i also made valentine cards and did the pledge!

The only way they knew I was a JW was when my mom would come and tell the teacher what I could and could not do. I never thought of myself as a JW and never told anyone I was. When the teacher would say, "you can't do such and such, nj go to the office", I'd say but I'm not a JW my parents are.

Most of the time I participated anyway. I always stood for the flag salute said the pledge and stood for the national anthem. I was ratted out several times because I went to school with about 13 dubs but I didn't care. My parents were JW's not me and I made sure everyone knew it.

I spent a great deal of my childhood trying very hard not to be a JW.

does anyone here watch it?

the hubby and i watch it every sunday night.

it's interesting to see the similarities between mormons and jw's.. i noticed that they too have a tie to the east coast due to their prophet.. they are also a fairly new religion, 160 years i believe.. they also recieved a "divine" message from a human prophet.. do witnesses have places like the mormons due where you can visit their founders past life?

I love that show, but other than them thinking they are the true religion and male dominance (sp) I have a hard time comparing them to the JW.

In what ways do you think they are similar maybe I'm missing something.

I've got pneumonia

after a week-long battle of what i thought was a bad case of upper respiratory infection, i decided to get checked out by my doctor.

after a chest x-ray, it's confirmed that i have pneumonia.

i feel horrible.

Make sure you finish all of the antibiotics don't stop them just because you feel better, drink plenty of fluids and rest. If you have a fever that does not respond to Tylenol (if the tylenol doesn't make it come down) that is a reason to call the doctor.

Follow up with your doctor as recommended to make sure all the infection is cleared up.

Hope you feel better soon, rest, rest, rest and more rest!

hey ladies.

today i was at a luncheon for work and when i went to wash my hands, the sink countertop was all wet.

i grabbed some extra paper towel-one sheet only, and wiped off the excess water.

I don't think I was around for the one paper towel rule or I maybe I just ignored it. I do remember being pissed that the mirrors were always covered and the lines were way too long. I remember at the last assembly I went to, I was 17 and I pulled the paper back to look in the mirror and got yelled at. I told the old bag that if she took a second to look in the mirror once in a while it might do her good.

Not long after I got back to my seat my dad was notified, but at that point I really didn't give a ratz arse about the petty jw rules.

What Got YOU Out Of The Organization?

how did you come to the final decision to get out of her (the organization, "mother")?

My desire to be independant and make my own decisions got me out. I didn't want to raise my child as a jw because I hated every minute of being raised a jw. I didn't want to be married off to some aspiring MS or Elder and definately could never be submissive to any one.

I'm a firm believer that a marraige is a equal partnership, I've never been a follower and didn't need anyone to lead me or be my head, mine works just fine.

I walked away at 18 never regretted it or looked back.

IF this cartoon was made to satire the Connecticut case and not President Obama, it would make sense that the context of the cartoon would include a family scene - maybe with the chimp raising havoc in the livingroom - and the caption could have read something like "That's one way to cut our expenses" or "One less egg to fry" - something that referenced the chimp as a family pet (which was their situation). INSTEAD, the reference was to the stimulus package. How do you make the leap from their situation to the stimulus package???

Hey burns,

Didn't your mother ever tell you that two wrongs don't make a right? But then again I don't expect anything different from you, you are still sucking on those sour grapes.

Even if the President was able, by some miracle to turn the US around (in the few short weeks he's been in office) you still would find fault.
