"mature" jw's, what do you "believe" you are accomplishing by coming on this board?.
page 371 paragraph 22 of the june 15, 1967 watchtower magazine says, "in addition to all of this, a persons faith can be weakened by what he reads and takes into his mind, dwelling upon "higher criticism," relying on worldly philosophers.
it should be remembered that, when we are reading a book, the author of the book becomes ones teacher, and for this reason great care should be taken in selecting reading matter.
Good one honesty!!

hi ya'll - this subject might've been addressed before, but i missed it if it was.
my daughter and i were talking the other day about how it's taught by the witnesses that anything one might buy from a yard sale, garage sale, or ebay(lol) - could be 'infected' with demons.
when dd was studying, the sister told her a first-person account that a tupperware bowl she'd bought at a garage sale that supposedly wreaked havoc in her home - she was physically attacked by an incubus-type demon - and it all stopped when she threw away that plastic bowl.. perhaps the best defense against them is indifference... i don't know.
Demons!@!!! I was scared to death of them growing up, wouldn't even go to the bathroom by myself at age 10!!!!~ Crazy!!

the watchtower scoffs at "apostates" because they want their "so-called freedom".
not practicing this religion does give you a lot of freedom and normalcy.
what freedoms do you cherish now?
Being able to sleep late on Saturday mornings, not having to sit through 5 weekly meetings and freedom to be me without the fear of someone "The Elders" finding out and having a meeting with me!!! UUGGHH!!!
The biggest most important - being able to raise my children without the influence of the BORG!!!!

seems like there was almost a mass "exodus" from jwd, lead by yours truly.
i apologise here and now, but at least some of you were able to pad your post count, thanks to my "irrational emotionalism".
it's what you probably used to do in field service, anyway.. there were also some "sideliners" who where so shocked, so emotionally moved, that even they, had to provide their input.
War - I got disfellowshiped for reading apostate material, ( CoC threat ) Doesn't that qualify me for mention of the week????
Buttlight - what's up with the ghosts, no new about them lately? Are they bothering someone else in the neighborhood, maybe a JW????

OOPS I meant COC Thread
i put the following comment on answers.yahoo.com about changes to watchtower revelation doctrine.
there have been three different versions of god given light in the watchtower publications so far;.
1. calvin studies in the scriptures series vii- the finished mystery p.151 "calvin is entitled to the honor of having at one time been a papal star .... is called wormwood.
Perfect example of needing education. While JWD was down earlier, and I was suffering from withdrawal, I checked out some other sites and some Y-Tube comments, It was the funniest thing, none of the JW's could spell or write a legible sentance. It's amazing. The only thing I feel I did get from being a JW was the ability to read at an early age!!!
Mabe they focus more on field service these days???

dont you just hate it when you write a post and it disappears ?.
my sister is visiting me for a week, she knows i dont go to meeting but has never asked me about it, she would find shunning really hard so i dont think she wants to confront me although she did ask my non witness sister but she didnt tell her anything.. so if she does ask, i was wondering the best way to deal with it.
i was thing of saying .
I say feel her out but don't push. She may be having some doubt herself and want to see what's up with you, you never know.
You will be able to gage how she's leaning by going slow, let her start and let her be the one asking questions. I myself was not a fader, I just left. But I do think that those that are having doubts are more receptive if you don't try to "ram it down their throats", ya know??
Most of all just have fun and enjoy being with your sister and nephew!!!

my wife and i frequent the local goodwill's here, and today when we went in, i took a look in the display case where they keep items - and groups of items - that customers can bid on.
they then take the highest bid, and contact the person - who then goes in and pays for the items.. anyway - today, among the groups of items there were 2 dinner plates, embossed with jesus or some other catholic-related images.
there was also a large off-white catholic bible - and last but not least - a black, gold embossed new world translation of the holy scriptures.. i don't know if i am the only one here who sees the irony of this or not... it's all behind a locked glass door, too - so no jw can go and remove the bible - so as to not be associated with the catholics.. i laughed when i saw it - and commented about it to my wife.
Jim,
That's funny, I too only remember the green one's!!

would you ever use witchcraft?.
do you think witchcraft is dangerous?.
do you think witchcraft is just a set of delusions based on ancient superstition?.
I don't think I would, I have considered going to a palm reader.

with the number of gb members now down to 9 (and possibly only half a dozen active members) it is surely inevitable that new members will be appointed , probably in time for the start of the new service year in september or at the agm in early october , as this is the traditional time of the announcement.
for the record , the last two appointments were announced as follows:.
***w063/15p.26 new members of the governing body*** .
Mary - TOOOO FUNNY

maybe during an interview, "hey, i'm a jw", you can trust me....lol.
the elders always told us that jehovah's name opens doors.. well, not in my case, how about you?.
I for one enjoy how some at my job will not curse and tell dirty jokes around me out of respect, knowing I am a JW and do not talk like that, whereas they have no problem talking that way around the professed Christian Ministers who join in right along with them. That is a great advantage in that you are not subject to obscence speech all day long.
I doubt that it's out of respect, they just know you are a prude and can't handle real life and a little fun. Life does not have to be so rigid and uptight, let loose a little and get the stick out of your A$$!! I work with a JW, and whenever she hears me curse she says "stop that cusing", I tell her that I'm a grown A$$ woman and can speak the way I want to, I don't tell her not to read her Wactower!! But, it's ok for her to talk about the person that sit's next to her like a dog, behind her back of course all while smiling in her face!! Hypocrite and back stabbing.
I never admitted being a JW and when people found out I was it was embarrassing, There was nothing about being a JW that I enjoyed!!!! Absolutelty nothing!!
