i never, ever thought i would ever be posting on a board such as this but here i am.
i've been reading the boards for several months and despite my initial conscience twinges, i couldn't help but follow a logical thought process on many issues that were causing me grief.
over this past week, due to the things i've read on here, i've had a massive cloud lift from me and i'm starting to feel joy and love in my heart that i've *never* felt before.

so i am sitting here preparing for tomorrow's meeting.....and i have a question?.
who and how are the pts decided upon?.
do you boys just draw numbers out of a hat?
I presume PT stands for Public Talk not Public Toilet....which is really what it is.
Anyway..there are many many ways that PT's are chosen. It is usually cooincidence if the PT theme and the WT theme match, unless a brother is really, really behind on scheduling. Scheduling usually is done six months out...some go as far as a year out and leave a few holes to rearrange for CO visits, assemblies, etc, where the dates are not known.
As to how it is scheduled...Society does not determine PT schedule other than Special Talk (which then goes into the PT rotation....and are often recycled CO talks from previous years).
Although some BOE's do sit down quarterly and talk about needs, it is usually left up to the PO (aka COBOE) to schedule or the seperate talk coordinator if the PO has delegated that responsibility. If an elder is the Talk Coordinator, he does what he wants. If an MS is the coordinator, the PO will often give direction on what talks to get.
In reality, what subject you get for a talk is determined by which congos you can switch with and what talks those brothers have. You may want a certain talk, but if the only brother to give it is boring as hell, you have to avoid choosing a talk that he has. Usually someone in the circuit has published a list of all the elders and MS and the talk outlines they have. If you live in an area like I did, I had access to about 5 circuits and 100 congregations within a 2 hour radius.
I kept a list of brothers the congo really enjoyed and the ones they did not. If I could avoid the latter I did. If a brother who gave bad talks was also the PO and/or talk coordinator, it was harder to avoid getting them... but I could almost always manipulate the schedule to not be forced into that situation... the talks were boring enough why get a bad speaker on top of it? and that was when talks were 45 minutes instead of 30. If I was forced into scheduling a bad/boring speaker, I tried to schedule myself out that Sunday (I know..bad.......self preservation....LOL).

hi all, at the conclusion of my pioneer school we took a group photo with the instructors.
we had to chip in $$ to hire a professional photographer (who was a brother).
it is a custom with all pioneer schools in australia to take a class photo with the instructors (much like gilead photo).. do they do that in any other countries?
We took a class photo for our pioneer school in 1986. It was supposedly a professional photographer, but for some reason the instructors waited until the last minute. So instead of one good picture, they took about 30 different pictures and printed them at the local Wal-Mart. So in one photo a brother in the back row is behind my left shoulder, in another he is behind my right photo. Every single photo was different. So cheap.
For our MTS graduation picture, a brother that was professional photographer was used. He had big studio klieg (sp?) lights, which were to harsh. We were all on the stage at the assembly hall. The photographer was on scaffolding out in the auditorium (so he could be at stage level but far enough away). One instructor was too my right and behind me. He put his hand over my forehead and asked if they could cut the glare off of Brother {Snakes} forehead. That got a good laugh from everyone. I have even less hair now. Indeed, there is a bit of glare in the final pic off my head. I look terrible in that picture. Oh...the photographer had us all say "Whiskey!" instead of "Cheese!"
I still have the pic but it has now been put in storage with the last of my remaining "theocratic career" mementos. I took the MTS graduation picture out of the real nice engraved frame given to me and put my college degree in its place. LOL

Oompa... sorry you gotta sit through it..at least its only 30 minutes.
Today I was in the local convenience store/gas station getting coffee on the way to work. My cell phone rings. Elder (and former close friend) from my old congo. Wanted to know why I was at ** station. Of course, that meant he could see me...he was yanking my chain. He and his wife and kids had pulled up next to my car in the parking lot. Apparently they were out in field service. No one else with them, though they had room for one more...wonder why no one wanted to work with them? hmmmmm....... Anyhow, his wife and kid were in the restroom inside and I hadn't seen them yet. I went outside and the elder and I chatted a bit....
...of course, he couldn't let me go without threatening me about the Special Talk. I asked who was giving it...he told me... it is an elder I respect as a person and I had pioneered with one year....the only fun year I ever had pioneering... unless he has changed, he is one of the more monotone boring speakers. This elder really was on my case about coming tomorrow. I told him I was working. Even if I wasn't, I am working...on not going to meetings.
If it wasnt for him inviting me (and now this thread) I would have had no idea when the talk was (I had already tossed my combo Memorial/special talk invite).
That's good, right, that I don't know when these things are anymore?

sitting at the meeting this week the brother on stage said elder a_____ has an anouncement....we all know what that means disfellowshiping!
{this elder i spoke with before the meeting and he did look stressed} "brother b______ is no longer a jehovahs witness" sister c____ is no longer a pioneer and has been reproved..." wtf!
brother a ____ spends every waking moment witnessing, he's alittle irratating with every sentence containing the term "jehovah.
The Super Spiritual Pioneer Service Overseer in my old congo is still an elder and pioneer though he enjoyed looking at porn and got caught.
I knew of a PO's wife and another elder of a little rural congo who were doing the nasty IN the KH during the slow afternoons.
I knew of a couple of married couples that were rehearsing for more than the drama they were all in. Can you say "Wife Swap"?
All verified experiences. I sat on the elder's meeting for the first one with the CO deciding if he would continue (my vote was the only one against him). I served as an elder in the congo of the second experience a few years after the incident (the PO and wife were divorced by then, the two baddies were married and reinstated and causing all kinds of ruckus by their presence). The third one I was in that circuit briefly and spoke to the elders who JCd them. Who need soap operas when you have this? lol
I once knew a worldly co-worker who used to say to me..."when you JWs go on the wild side, you go waaaay wilder than us non JWs." I had to laugh at that observation.

clyde and i recently got an invitation to a golden anniversary given by the daughter of a couple that i helped bring into the "truth.
" i was a little surprised because the daughter is df'd and so is her brother, but i thought, "good, i'll go to this!
well just this week i got a call from one of my best friends who is the sister-in-law of this couple.
stupid cult.
go to the party for the sake of your friends who are being honored.
Hunt down the DF daughter and give her a huge hug.

it's amazing how the congregation i was in promoted passive-aggressive behavior.
whenever you saw someone behaving inappropriately, you were supposed to run to the elders to tattle.
in some cases these were things that were none of our business or should have been handled privately.. there was a pioneertm who was having personal problems of some sort.
rebel8:
Visible plaque is one of the most disgusting things in the world to me. There should be a law against not flossing.
Absolutely agree. I have my regular every 4 month appointment for the dentist this afternoon for cleaning and exam. I brush and floss 3 times a day and still have some build up. I would go every 3 months if I could, and when I had decent insurance I did.
When I first started going to this dentist some 20 years ago, I had the worst case of gum disease she had ever seen in someone in their early 20s. It wasn't that I was not brushing, Bad teeth is genetic in my family. My dentist got me all cleaned up...but it was after 10 cavities. I have had a couple of cavities since, and one filling from 15+ years ago broke and required a cap, but other than that...now I have healthy gums/teeth. My little brother on the other hand, age 32, just got dentures. Sad what neglect does.
As to the BO issue at the KH..... I remember one new family that was real zealous was so bad that the sisters had to go in and help them clean out their house. Some brothers had to help too...we were literally scooping dog crap out of the basement...we filled a small commercial dumpster... they were a little offended at some things we threw out...we had to, there was no cleaning, repairing, salvaging it. I hear they are not nasty filthy anymore, but they are still huge clutter bugs.
I cannot live that way. I met a gal through eHarmony, still talk to her as friends, but we know we could never live together...she is a pack rat and not much into serious housekeeping and I am. I am not a neat freak, but I prefer cleanliness.
Glad I dont have to "counsel" anyone at a KH anymore for any reason.

edited to add...I do not know why my paragraphs do not retain the breaks in this post...really drives me nuts.. I had to add <br> manually in HTML
it was on the history channel tuesday night.. if you kept in mind the j.w.
theory of a "paradise earth", you'd see it would be absolutely impossible for 6 or 7 , even 20 million people to "maintain" the earth to keep it in liveable condition, never mind a "paradise earth".. all that time i was watching it, i was hoping my daughter and son-in-law was looking at it, too.
i wanted to call them and tell them about it, but i am not allowed to "talk about anything that has a religious agenda" for fear of losing them.. did anyone else see it?.
warlock:
Why do you HAVE to compare it to the J.W.'s? J.W. this, J.W. that. God damn. Instead of seeing demons under every bed, you see J.W.'s.
no kidding... just because this is a ex-JW site doesn't mean we have to give everything a JW-twist. We may as well go back to being a dub if we are going to keep doing that. Since we are on a ex-JW DB, we should expect this. However, I am not going to criticize those who do look for the JW boogey man everywhere they look. We are each at a different stage in our post-JW life.
and yeah, I have seen that show, very interesting.....and while watching it I never once thought anything about Dubville.....that is progress in my book.

my mother became a jw when i was six months old so i was brought up within the confines of the organisation.
i left properly in my early twenties and i am now 43 so a good 22 years of life, post being a witness have i travelled and documented thus far.
mine was a typical experience of a child in the congregation and i was busy doing my best to be a little adult as the child within slowly fell asleep.
welcome Liftsong...
I am wondering how that 18 month old little girl turned out...if you have been out 22 years, she would be a college age young woman by now...
How did your wife and daughter turn out with your decision? Congrats...I wish I had made the same choice at 21...I am now almost 43 and just figured it out 2 years ago...

from a shelter for abused/homeless animals.. she's gray, black, and white.
one eye is larger than the other, and she's charmed the entire household.. my g'daughter named her hannah - after the biblical hannah, of course.
i'm back at work and my g'daughter at school, so we had to leave her in an enclosure.. it just about broke our hearts.. sylvia.
I love my cat. I adopted her in January 2008 from the shelter. They think she was about 3-4 months old then. I gave her an arbitrary birthdate of September 1, 2007. (it just had the ring of irony). So my cat, Maxine (I call her Max...who names a cat Maxine...that was the shelter's doing) runs the house. She and I have a routine now..maybe I will post pics.. I never did before...

It is not a great pic.. I took it with my webcam when I just got her as a kitten. Even cropped my face..LOL
