Driving Under The Influence

someone told me recently that nearly one third of drivers have been pulled over because of drinking.....have you ever heard of this figure??

havent heard that figure, but it would not surprise me.

Only good reflexes got me to the side of the road and avoided death. people behind me got clipped. SUV behind them flipped and the 57 year old female passenger died. I watched the whole thing in my rear view mirror while sitting on the side of the road. Never thought I would see in real life someone die.

I used to drink occasionally when eating out...1, maybe 2 beers (or 1 glass of wine) tops over a 2-3 hour period .... and would drive home...now I only drink at home unless I am riding with someone I know is not drinking. Why chance it?

PS....Harsh, maybe, but it would sure send a message to everyone thinking of drinking and driving and prevent needless future death, eh? Ask me about my thoughts on punishing pedophiles...probably would not be allowed to post it here

I have bought and sold a lot of college textbooks on amazon marketplace when I was in school FT. I buy books and music on Amazon. I have bought plane tickets and computers online. Most of my clothing I buy from Lands End online, sometimes I use the live chat feature to make sure I order the right size. I do most of banking and bill paying online.

Visa has a feature that generates one time use credit card numbers..virtual card numbers (linked to your actual card number) and that works very nicely. Credit card companies guarantee against fraud for anything over $50. Many banks are doing the same with debit cards.

I dont much like real life shopping.....took me 22 minutes to buy a suit a few years ago....and 5 hours to test drive, negotiate, and finance a new car on a Saturday at the dealer. (although I researched it online) Still have the car 5 years later...suit too. Although I do like Target,.,,,clean stores not cluttered like Wallyworld....and the eye candy (female employees and customers) are better than Kmart and Walmart

Do you like where you live?

i live in the southern united states.

i'm not too fond of the state i'm in but i'm within close driving distance of some very cool places.

the people in the south are awesome, very hospitable.

RF...since I know where you are I will only say I would love to visit that area. Lot of beautiful places in your state.

I live in the midwest. I live in one of the counties of the MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area) of a major city that covers 2 states. I have been in this town most of my life. I often complain about the town I live in it is so backward and not much to do here, but the area has lots to do....and the cost of living is cheaper here than many places I have visited. Many in this state cross state lines and work in the other state because the wages are more there. But right now I have a good job, good gig, make lots of money and dont have to worry, as long as the gravy train continues to roll.

There are tons of attractions and natural places to go see within 2-3 hours of here and I have not even scratched the surface of seeing them. I need to change that. Bummer that I am doing it by myself. By now I was supposed to be married (so I can relate to your experience RF..) and I was looking forward to taking the new wife and stepdaughter to see all of that.

...all of my friends are here, and 95% of them are JW....which is making the fade more difficult (maybe nearly impossible) than I anticipated. To move away means I have to get out of my comfort zone and start over. Not sure I am going to do that. I always said the only reasons I would move are 1) get married 2) get a new job and ~~3) move to where the need is great~~ well, at least I can cross #3 off the list of reasons to move . So I will try to keep the whining about where I live to a dull roar.

hello ex-elders, onthe wayout, snakes, and wilyloman, just to refresh about a month ago i told you all that the appeal committee had overturned the disfellowshipping decision by the original jc as the appeal committee got a hold of me by phone and told me the society gave them direction in this.

i have since explained the situation to my witness mom and dad, 80 &82, they are good with it.

i am taking copies of the counsel you ex elders gave to me to be careful about what i say at this "alleged encouragement" meeting and promise you this, i'll watch my words carefully when they ask me questions.

I am glad it worked out for you. You handed them their collective heads and their asses on a platter. Just, don't expect them to leave you completely alone. They are turning tail and licking their wounds. If they have any say, there will be a round 2. Just warning you. But you have bought yourself some time. Hopefully you will be further in your fade by then and it wont matter. Family first.

Every BOE I ever served on got their asses kicked...by 3 different CO's and 2 different DOs in 2 different circuits because they kept coming after me for various infractions of the local BOE rules....the last CO finally was hoodwinked (cause the PO plays golf with him) and I got voted off the island.

All I ever wanted to do as an elder was to help the friends. My concern was genuine and I pissed off 3 BOE that I served on and the previous BOE when I was a MS on multiple occasions....I had a sister tell me last night that I never did beat to the same drum as the usual elders. I took that as a high compliment.

So..... Mr Flipper....., if some of us ex-elders were able to help with our "insider knowledge" and turn it against them, yay for you. Glad to play a small role, but YOU had to pull it off, and you did. dumb bast*rds.... ...and as you always say...peace out to you and mrs. flipper.

does anyone know or have a scan of the km 09/07.

in the german edition the question is raised and answered if the "faithful and discreet slaves" encourages biblestudy groups who study "deeper" topics.

obviously the answer is "no" don't do that the slaves feeds you more than enough.. i could do with an english copy.

An Update....

hello all, just wanted to fill you in on the situation with my mother.. she's doing good now after having the emergency surgery last week.

we're hoping that she can come home in a couple days.

her blood counts are still low but they have risen since the surgery.

in the bsb, rebekka watered 10 thirsty camels and also gave water to abraham's servant and whoever else was with him on that long trip to find isaak a wife.

one camel drinks about 30 gallons of water at one time and doesn't drink again for 10 months, according to a nature book about camels.

so, that's 30 gallons x 10 camels + thirsty people= 300+ gallons of water!

sheesh, I remember using Rebekka as an example in the "Follow the Course of Hospitality" talk I used to give all the time......tying it all into the showing affection for strangers (using Greek not Hebrew word philoxenia, lit, "love of aliens") to show how she showed hospitality to (at that point) a complete stranger. And I used all of those measurements you mentioned to show how much work it really was. I remember the friends just "oohing and ahhing" during and after the talk about how much effort she put forth and how it was good I did all that "research"....

Really, after I had given that talk about a dozen times, I began to think maybe it was an exageration, a hyperbole....but I still used it all the way until I quit giving talks last year.

She had help, no doubt, if she did it at all. They all had servants back then, esp. the wealthy families like hers.

i'll try to keep it brief, for me that's hard.

mrs. flipper was raised catholic and got out when she was 12 because the nuns and cathlolic school teachers didn't like her independent thinking mind.

Have you ever faked a service report?

it's only my third day here so, go easy on me.

lol.. seriously, my new doubts have made it harder and harder to go in service.

a few months ago, when a new month rolled around, i realized that i hadn't actually gone in service at all the previous month.

are you kidding? Or are you high? Or just not getting to see the KM, yearbook and annual report in the WT rag? The US publisher average in December was 9.6 hours...and it has not been above 10 in some time if I recall. Even including the auxiliary, regular, and special pioneers, the average was only 16 hours. The regular pioneers had their monthly quota dropped from 90 to 70 and they still cant make their time? (dec avg was 62.7) same for the auxiliary pioneers..dropped requirement from 60 to 50 and they cant do it either! (48.8 hours in Dec avg). Yes, it was December, but the 2005 report shows the worldwide average for the whole YEAR, was also 16 hours....including pioneers.

So, if all of that is reported time, yet anecdotally at least based on the stories here, I wonder how much of that 1.278 billion hours worldwide is real? Bet its below a billion. If every publisher faked on average 1 hour per month, that would knock off 79 million hours off that total. Add to that an additional 4 hours a month of coffee breaks that are probably being included, that's another 317 million hours gone!...yep, below a billion...doesnt sound so impressive now, does it? And then all the time driving around...hmmmm..I bet we start getting into negative numbers soon.....
