  one of the local elders in my town, a real go-getter when it comes to all things dub, is apparently the new service overseer.

  until recently (when i stopped drinking the kool-aid), we were also close friends.

  he still calls me a couple of times a month.

  New JW hobby when going to the KH

  so now that i am mentally out ( but still chained for family reasons ) i need to find some hobbies to do while at the meetings.. i would like to do some things that will disrupt the meeting, but without getting caught.

  for example, i would love to screw with the sound system while people are commenting ( particularly the elders ).

  any ideas?.

  The last year or two, even as an elder, I spent a lot of time in the library (while I was secretary I was doing "paperwork", but the PO put an end to that..so then I just started reading in the library.."researching")...or out in the lobby (but the PO tried to end that too)... time spent in the bathroom stall...making gas noises.... sometimes real, sometimes not.

  Find someone to get into conversations with out in the lobby. If some robo-attendant tries to run you back into the auditorium, take the conversation outside.

  If your KH has FM transmitters for the hard of hearing, bring a MP3 player with FM radio..but dont tune it to the local spiritual feast. Who would know what you are listening to?

  Find a way to get out of going...harder if you have family in.

  One of the local elders in my town, a real go-getter when it comes to all things dub, is apparently the new Service Overseer. Until recently (when I stopped drinking the kool-aid), we were also close friends. He still calls me a couple of times a month. I think to test the waters. (this is the same one who half kiddingly asked if I had "gone apostate"...completely out of the blue.)

  This elder informed me that they were trying to get permission from the Society to reproduce one of the tracts to large size (ie, convention booth display size). They are wanting to once a month (or more maybe) set up a display booth at the local mall and staff it with local dubs...have a monitor there playing their DVDs, offer literature, etc. I can tell you this will not go down well in this mall if its approved. AND it has a very good shot at being approved since the Christian Scientists have an entire storefront there. AND ...since the mall is basically a ghost town now, they might allow it...nothing else going on there.

  Now, this local indoor mall is dead. I dont know what keeps it open to be honest. The mall has new owners and are renovating it..carpeting all over the place, new lighting, etc.... but no decent stores anymore. I only go to the mall to go to the library and once in awhile I go to a restaraunt there. (Yes, this inside mall has a library...one of the first in the country when it first opened). The library is renovating a much larger space and will soon reverse the roles of the mall and downtown libraries...mall will become the main and downtown a branch). If the new mall management approves this, I am seriously thinking about raising objections with all of the mall tenants and management company. I dont like CS in there either, but they are tucked away, no one from CS is actively trying to get people to come in...its "just there." If the dub popsicile stand goes up, I can always go to the downtown library and I can take my food to go at the restaraunt....or not go at all.

  The worse idea is that the dubs also want to set up the same "informational booth" at the local community college that I attend. That would be awful. How do I avoid that? I dont know how the JW employees that work there feel about it. (One local elder is an instructor and another brother is a professor and I think there are one or two other dubs working there.) I dont want a cult coming on campus trying to indoctrinate young people. Maybe I should copy WT articles where it is clear that the Society discourages college education...kind of a conflict of interest letting them on campus,..and forward to administration there?

  The Christian Scientists have a small literature holder on a stand outside of the library on campus, but it does not appear to be well maintained. There is a club on campus for Christians of all faiths to associate, but it appears to be more social and that is fine. There is even a Pagan group on campus, but they are not shoving things down our throat either.

  What I object to is the overt prosteltyzing, especially to young people. I am hoping this experiment of the dubs is a complete failure.

  Even while a pioneer, I did not want to do that kind of preaching work...the so-called "Street Work" (tm) was bad enough...

  any thoughts on this potential intrusion on two of my favorite places away from the dubs?

  Witnessing =Dirty Householders/bible studies yuck remember??

  we had a bible study women who collected all the qaurter left bottles of coke and would "recycle" them into one bottle.

  a couple we studied with would give us coffee with lipstick on the cup after removing the cigrette buts and a quick rinse!

  a study gave me a glass of water which was brownish looking....tasted awful.

  as a bill collector for cable, i often have to go into people's homes to retrieve the cable equipment. I once spent 5 days working in Cleveland and our local office gave me a large box of plastic bags. I asked "what is this for?" The reply: "to seal the cable boxes in...the area you are working has a lot of roaches and the roaches like the warm inside of the older large cable boxes." Nice....I collected 75 boxes that week..

  I dont know how people live this way. A good (inactive JW) friend of mine, before he was married, lived by himself in a small house. I never got to go inside, but from the door once I could tell it was a mere path that ran through the house. He married another good (also inactive JW) friend of mine, who used to be very active, and her mother is an absolute clutter bug/hoarder. So you have a hoarder and a clutter monster married to each other....yeah, its hard to walk through their tiny upstairs apartment. I love them...but thats ridiculous.

  I have a rule...for every one thing I bring in, I try to get rid of 2 or more... its why I can still park my car in the garage after 11 years. I dont accumulate crap. I may have to start another thread about this topic...

  I Am Confused & Disoriented

  don't get me wrong.

  i'm grateful for the new site, but i just can't seem to get with the flow.. i'm dealing with a lot of other stuff - personal and job-related - so that is part of the problem.. does anyone else feel this way?

  I log into JWS now unless I need to send a PM. I figure I had best get used to it.

  I was trying to figure out a way to make a trip south to see my family, but with a serious slow down in work, I dont think its going to happen.

  Did YOU Really Care about "The Friends"?

  honestly, did you really care about everyone in your hall?.

  everyone gripes about how the majority of elders never cared but were you one who regularly showed how much you cared for the "brothers and sisters"?

  i'll bet we all share some guilt in this.

  everyone? Hell no. I can think of one jackass elder I still cannot stand. He could drop over now in front of me and I wouldnt do anything for him.

  Overall, I cared for most everyone, and took my responsibilities as an elder seriously.

  I wish I had taken my responsibilities as a human being with more seriousness. That's not permitted in Dubville.

  and I might add... I love sleeping in on Sunday morning instead of getting up, putting on a suit and tie, slogging to another mindless meeting.

  me and the cat just lie in bed until about 9 (that is sleeping in for me) and then get up and get ready to go to work...always a better day to be making money than donating money to the Borg

  TTRP...

  i thought of a camera but not for JW reasons...crazy neighbor reasons.. (though that seems to have calmed down with the installation of a 6ft high 120 ft long stockade fence running between our properties).

  I still run into the dubs around town... some I think try to avoid me, others try the guilt trip.... only moving away will ever stop it..move far enough where no one knows you (of course, the whole 6 degrees of separation thing is only 3 deep in dubville...)
