Hey there Icing Heart,
You are in the right place. On the tough road you have ahead you're going to appreciate this discussion board.
All the best,
Alex
i just joined this forum today after reading the comments on today's watchtower (which i have to attend in about an hour unfortunately).
i was raised in "the truth" and it was only recently that i began to listen to a close friend of mine as he pointed out the secrets and lies that is the watchtower society and governing body.
even though he was informing me for almost a year, he never gave up on me.

seriously, this is a grammar error that should have been trained out of anybody in elementary school.
your is a possessive pronoun, you're is a contraction.
they're two different words meaning two very dissimilar things.
Oops...sorry about that blank post. Thanks, Hortensia for the "grammar" correction....see what I mean with those damn phonetics. Alex

I remember hearing Sunutko speak in South Florida. Just to give you a feel for the heady atmosphere among the Dubs....
It was a Special Talk that kind of came out nowhere, without too much advance notice. It was not associated with an Convention or an Assembly. The event was held at a public auditorium and if I recall correctly there were probably several thousand people in attendance (this was prior to the big J.W. Assembly Hall being built out west of Ft. Lauderdale).
Some of the hype that surrounded the event included the fact that Sunutko had such a great speaking voice and that he had given up a promising career as professional singer to pursue "kingdom interests." Of course, the implication for any young people, contemplating careers or their futures, was that if he gave up a worldly career for the "truth" so should we. I can remember the "buzz" that went on from the time of this talk up until the big Non-event in 1975. This talk was just one more of the society's "hint-hint," "wink-wink" suggestions that the end was upon us.
What B.S. The only thing that burns my ass more is a flame about 7 feet high.
Over and out,

I agree.
Bad grammer is really annoying. However, sometimes I think posters just make an honest mistake.
For example, this morning after I posted something I noticed that I used "there" when I meant to use "their," and thought to myself "what a moron, I am." Oh well. When you are mentally sounding things out phonetically, mistakes are bound to happen. So, it's another good argument for careful proof reading.
Another thing that's really annoying is rambling sentences that show absolutely no forethought on the part of the poster.
Thanks for the vent session
Alex
99% of all jw's believe and are taught that to survive armageddon that you must be a jw or as a minimum be.
associated with the jw's.
however the april 1 "public" issue of the watchtower has some interesting wording.
Ahhhhh!!!
The lengths that the Borg will go to deceive people. Let the show begin with the "new arrangement" (god, I hated their lingo) of two versions of the Watchtower.
I think we're all in for a real treat over the next months and years as we see the Borg speaking out of both sides of their mouth "composite" (there I go again) ass.
Sooner or later they are going to really slip up and paint themselves into a corner. Of course, not that they haven't done that repeatedly. It's just amazing how the Dubbies continue swallow this putrid, vile, man made slime.
back when i was attending kingdom halls, our circuit had a lot of 'drop dead gorgeous' women, many whom were married to the geekiest looking guys.
i always asked myself, "how did these 'dorks' do it"!
was this because selection was limited, or was this just a peculiarity in our area?
My ex was one of those drop dead gorgeous girls... a real head turner. And, in South Florida there were tons of hot looking girls in the Borg...especially the Hispanic sisters...OMG. But, I don't think I was particularly geeky looking.
It didn't do me any good though, being married to a drop dead gorgeous woman. The Borg made sure of that with their bedroom laws and general prudishness about sex.
My ex was a virgin (raised in the Borg) who didn't believe in sex before marriage. The problem was that marriage didn't change her mind...she still didn't believe in sex. It few and far between.
Alas, a wasted youth.....

Hey All,
When I was a teenager the "Plain Truth" (World Wide Church of God/Armstrong voice) was all over Ft. Lauderdale (1971-2ish)(in lots of health food stores, etc.) and the message was always so similar to the WTBS that I started asking questions, because the message in the "Plain Truth" was always so much slicker and appealing than the WT.
I was told by an elder and his wife that Armstrong was an apostate, of the evil slave class....
Never bothered to check it out, but this elder and his wife were fairly well connected in the BORG.
Just thought I would drop that info on you, for what it is worth...which may or may not be much.
Alex
"if you leave jehovah's organisation, where will you go?".
no doubt many of us have been asked that question.
so where did you "go" when you left the jws?
Hi Sirona and everyone else,
Life after the WT society.....still under construction, but lookin' good!!!
1. How did you build up a new social structure after leaving the JW religion?
I renewed some old friendships, but then made a major geographic move to go back to school in a place where I only knew a few cousins. It was very tough and lonely. However, I was able to take advantage of the counselling services at my university. The psychologist I hooked up with gave some advice that seemed insufficient at the time, but in retrospect it was great advice. He explained that it takes time build some history in a new place and developing new friendships. It's that history that makes us feel like we belong. He was right and I have made a number of great friends and have really become integrated with many networks of people, both at the university and in the community.
2. Have you made fulfilling friendships and where did you find those friends?
Ditto on Question 2.
3. Do you have a spirituality now and if so, how do you compare it with the JW religion?
NO, thank god!!! (the irony...huh!). The WT society is probably one of the best organiztions there is at creating atheists and agnostics.
4. What is the best advice you can think of to give to someone who has recently left the JWs - in terms of how to rebuild their life?
It is going to smooth out and your life ahead is going to be filled with good things you could never have anticipated, even if it looks like things really suck right now.
Cheers to all,
Alex
there must be thousands of students from africa and the far east, who would be only too happy to translate part of a website, or even important threads from this site into their native tongue.. they would earn extra money, and the information would start trickling through.. the mid and far east and africa are served by very few lines to the net (most of east africa is served by one line) but at least its a start!!.
hb.
Hey HB, Actually, I am attending the University of Akron and there are a ton of international students here. There a bunch of graduate students from Africa in my department. Let me know. Alex
