Goats was a term used very frequently and I remember seeing it in print in the literature. Before 1974 it faded out and worldly people took its place at my KH. Not what youwould expect from people who preach brotherly love.

Views of worldy folk as a witness
by fifi40 ini bring this subject up because personally i dont get it.. i have noticed that some posters use words such as 'evil' or 'stinking goats' to describe the view (either their own adopted view or that of the jw org) they had of worldly people whilst a jehovahs witness.. the reason i find this difficult to understand is because i never felt that way toward 'people of the world' whislt being a believer of of the teachings of the jw organisation.
and i didnt pick up on it being rammed down my throat by the org either.
now i wonder if i was ignorant of something, not paying enough attention or if it is just each individuals approach toward life that makes the difference.. what were your views of 'people of the world and why?.

Mental condition of Jehovah's Witnesses, healthy or not ?
by Handsome Dan ini thought i'd open a discussion on the mental health condition of most practicing jws.
and get viewpoints on what kinds of mental health effects the wts.
may have for most of the people that are practicing witnesses.

I can't relate to DFed people parting from the JWs and the pressure they may have recieved. I can't relate to pressure from parents to baptise. Because I purposely never absorbed biblical teachings I think my father felt I never qualified for baptism. That did hurt in some way. The embarrasment of field service work hurt emensely. Being isolated from the vast majority of human beings that I was forced to treat as goats hurt even more. Being treated by human beings as a pimple on thier ass hurt twice as much. Being disassociated from my mother who was never a JW before she died, an unhealable hurt. Disassociated from my father who is still a JW, PRICELESS.

Do you make mistakes?
by Frannie Banannie ini makes lots of mistakes.
in words and deeds.
i'm usually flying by the seat of my pants and don't think before i say and do things sometimes.

I'm OK with that. But what I hate is how some of the mistakes have had such a huge penalty considering that they weren't intentional. It is the one thing that keeps me living in the past from time to time.
So, so true. Some shame I may carry for a while but it will go away. How much and for how long? Depends on the mistake.

Leave a note on your door that reads: Hey Bubba, Big Jim, Duke and Slim, I went to the gun shop for more ammunition. Back in an hour. Don't mess with the pit bulls -- they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up real bad. I don't think Killer took part in it but it was hard to tell from all the blood. PS - I locked all four of 'em in the house. Better wait outside

Not an Oprah fan?
by looking_glass injoin the club.
first of all i am in chicago, so we get tons of stories about the woman.
is she any different from any other wealthy powerful person, probably not, but she certainly is not the golden child she presents herself.. 1) she can be demanding (not any different from many wealthy rich people) and if you do not ask how high when she says jump, you are fired.. 2) she is known to agree to something, disappear for a while and then people get a form letter from "her people" saying that oprah cannot participate in ___[fill in appropriate word here]_____.

Not aJW, but have a question
by roseybarb ini hope it's alright that i post a question, even though i've never had any affiliation with jw organization.
i have a friend who has been trying to convince me for years to study with jw.
i've been doing alot of research on jw and was just wondering if people here would be kind enough to tell me why they have decided to quit their affiliation with jw organization.

Growing up in it til I was 18 I know very well the negative effects it has on children. Abuse in many areas. No respecting parent should force that religion on a child.

If what you plan will help you heaI, I am behind you. If you plan to put even a small negative dent into the JWs, you are wasting your time. Think about this, a minute of sadness is sixty seconds lost on happiness.

Welcome skeptic. I was raised a JW and I left it at 18. I was always negative about the JWs until I came to this board two weeks ago. I have a greater appreciation for the words "You like it or you don't" and a greater respect for those who have faith and those who are in the JWs, have been, soon to be and soon not to be. I have been a non believer for 46 years and always will be. I have always accepted what is in my heart and now I can respect what is in others. Follow your heart and if children are involved, tread softly. Forcing spirtual beliefs on children in my opinion can have negative effects.
