Present
by Kant846 ini have a jehovah witness coworker who is out sick for a couple of weeks.
we ( a group of coworkers) are planning on sending her a get well soon card and present (teddy bear).
will this be disrespecting her as a jehovah's witness and her religous beliefs.. thank you for your quick response.

Cards and gifts are acceptable. I would send individual cards, and gifts if possible. If your coworker recieves more from worldly people than from the JWs, maybe she will get some kind of message from it.

Waistband of pants down to mid thighs
by Fatfreek ini had a sandwich at subway today and my seat was near the door.
one of the patrons left with his buddy and i could hardly believe my eyes.
i'm no prude but it turned me off to see the belt line of his jean shorts down to the middle of his thighs.

It reminds me of a fashion that shocked my JW father in the sixties. It was long hair. There have been other fads since then like punk.

My situation might not be all that bad after all.
by R.F. inas many of you know, i've mentally left the organization but i'm still actively involved, even with positions of responsibility.
i wanted to do a successful quiet fade out of the org but at the same time i don't want any involvement with it.
i would love to send a da letter right now but some things had been holding me back.

Damn, you lost the woman you loved? To the borg? It's time to move on and leave the borg behind, far behind.

Racism within the borg
by icyestrm inacts 10:34 speaks of god as not being partial.
in the majority of pictures, the married couples are only of the same race and none of them are mixed.
i noticed that in other pictures of the so-called paradise, its segerated amongst races too.

Please don't barf at my thoughts on the subject. Brought up as a JW, I was taught that all men are brothers, and I adhere to that to this day. The printings you speak of were probably a cost, (price of ink) or a mechanically related issue and not a racial issue. As much as I dislike the JW religion, I know they are not racial!!

Obeisance or obedience? I will admit I went to the dictionary. Curious about the spelling and now that I know for sure, you get nothing more than a bow. Congrats to you.

Why not baptize at the kingdom hall?
by Mysterious inlots of churches baptize those willing right at the church why do you think the jws don't do the same?
would it be too "discouraging" in congregations where there were no new ones baptized for a long time.
maybe they are trying for a bandwagon effect?

In a few more years, baptizmal candidates will be required to walk many miles as another show of dedication to the WTS. Only kidding, but why not?
There was one KH in my area with a pool and only once did someone from my KH baptize there. I'll bet high maintenance and the new, twice a year, local assembly hall they built eliminated the old pool.

My name... screen names and thier meanings
by Miss 8572 ina few days ago someone asked me what my name meant, 'miss 8572.
as an unabashed star trek fan i find all the references to the witnesses as "the borg" on this site really charming.
when coming up with my name i just thought "what is anti-borg?

Individual avatars has been a topic many times since I came on board. DJK is a scramble for the initials of my actual name. First is last and vice versa and you still have it wrong, believe me on that.
The picture is Cloud Strife and Tifa from an anime movie and video game called Advent Children; Final Fantasy Seven. It has changed from another picture of Cloud and will change again to yet another picture of Cloud, soon. Just a prewarning for you and other posters so enjoy it while you can. Ha ha.
In Final Fantasy Seven, Cloud battles the forces of Jenovah who is trying to destory the planet by putting out a plague something like a depressive dissorder called the stigma. Cloud gets killed and then resurrected by a woman. He naturally wins and finds a cure for the plague.
After watching the movie I couldn't help but think the writer or creator had some affiliation with the Jehovah's witnesses. Destruction of the earth, Jenovah, a resurrection, made it very interesting. I tried an internet search for the writer and found everything in Japanese so I will never know of any affiliation.
My wife had studied the Russian language and she says, in Russian the letter H is dropped and replaced with the letter N. Close it still doesn't explain the H at the end.

We need a secret hand signal!
by Miss 8572 indo you still go to the assembly just to laugh quietly inside?
wouldn't it be great for those of us that do still go to the assemblies and meetings, etc.
to have a secret signal that lets us know who we are?
-
DJK
Having a familiararity (for at least one person) with a potential Assembly arena might help. Set up a time and meeting point to introduce ourselves. In that area, give the predetermined signal.

Any lawyers here - re 2nd Baptism question.
by AlphaOmega injust a thought.... does the 2nd baptism question, "do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of jehovahs witnesses in association with gods spirit-directed organization?
" enter the candidates into a legally binding contract?.
this is a verbal declaration to abide by the "corporation rules" (disfellowshipping etc) said infront of witnesses (no pun intended).. could it be that this is why this question was added?
-
DJK
It is my understanding that a verbal contract is legally binding if there are witnesses to it just as in the case of signing an X on the dotted line. Violating the contract with a religious organization would mean excommunication. Excommunication or disfellowshipping to each individual may differ in it's effects. Some hurt and some don't, and what bothers you today may not tommorrow.
