Sorry...I left out my final sentence above. I meant to conclude that even though there is no crime without action, there is sin when you imbue the desire-thought with feelings/emotion and allow an interaction back and forth creating concepts and allowing images to form.

There are no crimes without the actions which produced them.
Agreed. But, there is sin, as you so adroitly pointed out by quoting scripture.
The heart and brain work hand in hand and back and forth. Intelligence may be seated in the brain, but for action to manifest from a thought, it requires emotion. Actually, there is a triad at work and it is impossible to speak of one without speaking of the others. You have the energetc quality of consciousness (mind), which generates feelings/emotions, thoughts, images (generally thought of as "heartstuff"). It's an interaction of instincts, feelings, emotions, thoughts, and concepts.

My mom throws a not so subtle threat my way
by JWinprotest inmy fade is going well, but my mom knows full well what my thoughts are on the wts.
it seems that she feels comfortable just ignoring the situation in order to keep seeing her grandchildren.. the other day however we were talking about someone we know who is making it very difficult for her parents to see their grandchild.. then out of the blue, my mom turns in my direction and says, that if any of her kids try to deny her from seeing her grandchildren, she would take them to court and get a court order to force them to let her see them.. i know what the message was, and it was loud and clear.
she is letting me know that if i get disfellowshipped there's no way i can keep the kids away from her.

Wow. I have mixed feeling about your mom's words. Some posters on this board are heartbroken because their parents aren't interested in being grandparents to their children. It warms my heart to hear that she loves them so much she would never forsake them.

Sad Family News.....
by AK - Jeff inon friday morning, sometime before noon, my former son-in-law [for lack of better term, for he and my daughter were never married], father and custodial parent of my middle granddaughter, was found dead of an overdose of pain-medication.
perhaps oxycontin, though i am unsure of the specific drug at the moment.. he was enduring pain from an accident with his moped [yes, he was lifetime license removed for drinking] that occurred a year or so back.
his shoulder was injured and he had a surgery scheduled soon.

My heart goes out to your granddaughter, Jeff. So sad to lose a parent in death so very young. May you all find peace. I hope she finds inner strength to deal with the tragedies in her young life.

All crimes are sins, but not all sins are crimes. Civilized society is guided by laws and the law books are thick and plentiful.....lots and lots of gray areas.
"Anyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultry in his heart."
The key phrase is "in his heart". He has committed a sin, but not a crime. In biblical times, adultery was a crime worthy of stoning.
But, what this scripture shows is that it all begins with desire. Once you allow the desire to enter, take root, and grow by feeding it, your goose is as good as cooked. It's just a matter of time and opportunity till the desire becomes action.
The battery in the flashlight which makes the light turn on when you press the button is THINKING. No thinking (no battery) no SIN (no light.)
Actually, first cause is not the battery. First cause is the DESIRE for light. Once you want light, you take the next step....thinking about how to get it and what it would be like to have it.
Would you place your child in a situation where they are around an adult who is "thinking" about having sex with them even if you were guaranteed it would never happen?
Not me...never in a million years! If they confessed their thoughts and sought help and forgiveness, I could forgive them for having the thoughts. But, I would NEVER forget to the extent that I would allow my child to be in that person's company unsupervised. There is a such thing as common sense.
