It's Ozzie's new idea for a poll - you have to guess the question and post your answer.
My answer is "sometimes but never on a Sunday"

How terrible for you - I am sorry. Unfortunately, this situation happens only too frequently in an organisation that values dogma and rules over people and their feelings.

one of the things we were constantly taught as jws was that the vast majority of the world are intrinsically bad; wicked enough to warrant destruction at armageddon.. last xmas, a film "love actually" (sentimental tat really but who says we don't need sentimentality occasionally) was based on the idea that everywhere people are in love and being loved.
also, a couple of tv documentaries shown recently in uk, michael palin's 'himalaya' and ewan mcgregor's 'long way round' had these intrepid travellers visiting remote corners of the earth.
it was striking just how friendly and helpful people can be to strangers.

So, what's the verdict? Are people intrinsically good or bad? What do you think?

report: jackson prints found on porn mags.

Whilst I believe in zero tolerance to child molestation and any form of abuse either physical, mental or sexual, I think we need to be very careful here.
First, a person is innocent until proved guilty. Also, we do not know this guy as an individual or what happened in his childhood to make him turn out this way.
Many here have had problems with the judgemental mentality of the JWs; let's not fall into that trap ourselves. We may have neither the talent or money of Michael Jackson but also we have not had the same background; "there but for the grace of God go I"

i think the question speaks for itself?
while there is much we don't believe, there are some things we can't ignore.
anyone agree???
I still believe that we should treat all people with diginity and kindness and equals.
This is something I had to teach my children when we lived in India - a society that is often oblivious to its own social inequalities. It is a pity the Society teaches us this but often fails to practice it itself.

did you like them?
hate them?
fear them?
My experience is that as individuals, most are kindly family men. However, the dogmatic rule enforcers always rise to the top positions, e.g. PO, SO, etc. Also, with elders meetings there is a sort of herd mentality, allowing unquestioning obedience to the rules to override feelings of compassion for fellow imperfect humans.

ok, they have lots of "witnessy" sayings.
but the best is the words they keep making up.. mine is "super-fine apostles" (from an awake a few months ago).
Not a made-up word but a JW word with multiple connotations - privilege

ok the 2004 jw service report is out / due out soon but so what?
i gather it will show an increase of just 2% worldwide with many of the developed countries showing zero or practically zero growth.
what a waste of all the time, effort and money putting into the "preaching work".

Even when 'in', always felt that the 'high ups' in Brooklyn had no idea of what the world was really like and the the Society wasn't doing enough to help in places like Africa, South America, India, Bangaldesh, etc. Here are some stats we should care about. And, remember when you read these stats, that the JWs like to believe that God only cares about a mere 5.5 million people, men, women and children earth-wide.
As Christ said; "suffer the little children unto me".

after leaving a controlling sect, it?s normal to want to live ?freedom?.
what did you do to show that you were no longer under the influence of the watchtower?
did you grow a beard, start having sex with whoever, start drinking, start gambling?
Not at all - they all think I am going back soon!
I am thinking of growing a beard - though I did grow one once on holiday and come back and take the Ministry School and a few meeting parts for a week or two after. It didn't go down too well amounst the 'right wingers'.

as jw dubs, we were sure we would live forever.
when we left the organization, probably we all started to accept that paradise wouldn't be around the corner, and that we would probably die like everyone else around us.. how do you deal with the fact that you will one day die?
Yes. We would be abnormal if we didn't - it is part of our survival mechanism.
What would shouldn't be frightened of is risk. To me we, particualarly in the west, have become so risk adverse that we are in danger of loosing something that makes us tick. I would much rather die in a road accident in Thailand or a ferry disaster in Indonesia than spend all my life worrying about dying and then at the end of it regret the things I did not do.
Enjoy life - don't waste it.
