I too noticed the lack of increase/decrease figures. But more interestingly, if you go to the home page how on earth can you find this page? I tried doing a serach and still couldn't find it. Interestingly, I found an article on the computer 'Millenium Bug' dated 1999! That a bit of old news we are all interested in - not!

But some are nice - come on admit it.
by eyeslice inbut you have to admit that some are nice caring people.
my wife missed the meeting to night due to flu and a sister who has far more health problems than us phoned to ask after her.
she even asked after me, brother 'long time no see'!

I know that we here are more often than not very anti-witness. But you have to admit that some are nice caring people. My wife missed the meeting to night due to flu and a sister who has far more health problems than us phoned to ask after her. She even asked after me, brother 'long time no see'!
So there, they can be nice. Pity about their religion.

Governing Body, Blood Guilty Because of Enforcing "No Blood Transfussions"
by frankiespeakin inwhat do you think will there every be court cases in any countries(not just usa) because the wt will df people for taking a blood transfussion?.
since it is a disfellowshipping offence, and since the governing body is responsible for determining what is a disfellowshipping offense for all of jws around the world,,do you think they care a heavy blood guilt for all the "thousands" of witnesses that have already died because they refused blood?.
it will be interesting to see what develops as far as court cases in the future and as more and more jw get deprogramed the repercussions this will cause for the already reproachable governing body.

No the GB probably won't be prosecuted because of this.
The way the WTBTS works is subtle. Taking blood is left to the 'consciences' of the brothers and sisters - so they say. However, accept a blood transfusion and you effective disfellowship yourself. There is no winning with these people. The JW religion is not one of personal spiritual growth, it one of rules and regulations.

Is the need to be in a religion a personality trait....................
by BLISSISIGNORANCE inlike the idea that alcoholics have a particular gene, certain mannerisms we inherit from parents or grand-parents, red hair is a recessive gene etc.
is religion inherited as a life style or emotional dependency?????????????????
is it low self-esteem and the need for others to decide what is right and wrong, how to live and even die???????.

The answer has to be yes.
Religion/God appears to be hard-wired in our brains. There has been no society in the history of modern man that has not had a concept of God. Are some pepple more predisposed to this than others? Again yes, that is why some become priests, nuns, and .... JWs.

DA-ing Announcement in the Society's New Book
by Mark inthe society's new book 'organized to do jehovah's will', to be released in the congregations .
on the 20th of march, introduces a change in the df and da announcements.
announcements will read the same: "[name of person] is no longer one of jehovah's .

I can only agree with all the comments here - the defintion is becoming more vague.
The rub is that if 'so and so is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses' then should be treated like people of the world - JWs don't treated worldly people in general like dogs. What they do is shun former JWs.
Reading between the lines, many of us here could be treated as DA'ed people simply because we no longer attend.

Countries with zero or neg growth up from 7 to 22
by confusedjw inin alphabetical order:.
australia, austria, belgium, britain, canada, czech, denmark, finland, greece, hongkong, hugary, italy, japan, the netherlands, norway, portugal, puerto rico, romania, slovakia, sweden, switzerland, usa.
last year it was seven and now twentytwo countries with zero or negative growth.. remember when japan was growing by double digits each year?.

I believe the underlying reason for negative growth is primarily due to the JW religion being an 'End time' religion that has made failed predictions in the past and now does not know what to teach next.
What the internet has done is drawn that fact and a good many others to the attention of ordinary folk like myself. I was 'in' all my life and knew quite a lot of the history of the witnesses. What I never knew though was that Ray Franz had written a book or where to get it. The internet taught me that.
Knowledge is power and that is what the WTBTS fears about the internet.

Some JWs Are "In The Closet"
by minimus inby that, i mean, some witnesses will not just now "out" themselves because of various fears and concerns.
some of us are still "in the closet".
so to speak, because we're not ready to expose ourselves to the "loving brothers", just yet---at least not 100 %.

Min,
There is no straight JW answer to that. If I give them no bother, I am no longer a brother in their eyes - I am someone who has 'fallen' away. If word gets back that I have done 'something wrong', then they are always likely to consider me a brother in order to get at me. It's just the way it works in JW land. -

How Witnesses Use Meeting Comments
by metatron inone of the more amusing aspects of pretense maintenance in this "spiritual paradise" concerns comments made in the.
meetings.
they often give publishers the opportunity to project an image of what they would like others to think of them.
-
eyeslice
Get your point. I often felt that the most vocal and dogmatic in their comments at the meetings were the ones I would consider least Christ like.

I too don't understand the question. I am 100% out - I no longer go to any meetings, don't do field service, don't consider myself under the authority of the local congregation.
I am not out as an apostate though - if that is what you mean.
