Plm: Your observations are right on target. The "terible" conditions we see today in the world are no more terrible than other generations of people have seen in the past. The truth is that this generation, for the most part, actually sees much better conditions than most past generations have seen. For instance, due to modern medicine and agriculture our generation has seen less contagious diseases and famines than any past generation in earth's history. Proof of this can be seen by simply looking at earth's population numbers over the past two thousand years. So many people in the world used to die as a result of wars, famines and various diseases that earth's population grew very slowly and at times actually decreased during the last 2,000 years. But then about a hundred years ago it really began to grow big time. Why? Because conditions got better, not worse! A real good book that clearly shows that JWs are wrong about our generation being the worst ever in such things as war, crime, disease, earthquakes, famines and such is The Sign of the Last Days, When? coauthored by Carl Olof Jonsson, an ex JW. It is packed full of fascinating historical research which thoroughly disproves the JW 1914 "last days" generation teaching. In it he shows that Jesus was actually saying that conditions such as those just mentioned were not to be understood as signs of anything, but just everyday conditions which would exist as always up until the time of his return. I highly recommend this book.

[:|?]"The sign's of the times" What ...
by plmkrzy insorry this is so long, i probably could have left out half of it.
i just felt like typing today.. the sign of the times.. i was having a semi conversation with someone whos very close to me on this subject after the 911 tragedies.
apparently some congregations were talking about it being the worst thing that has ever happened, thus being a sign of the times.

I just want to elaborate on what Gumby wrote earlier.
I believe it is quite plain to all Christian groups except Jehovah's Witnesses that the instructions recorded in Acts 15:29, "Keep abstaining from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication," were only written as strong advise to new Gentile Christians as a way they could avoid offending Jewish Christians. This is quite evident simply by reading the context of those verses. Acts 15:19, 20 says, "My decision is not to trouble those of the NATIONS who are turning to God, but to write THEM to abstain from things polluted by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood."
It is also plain that these words were not written as a binding decree imposed upon Christians. We know this because Paul later said that early Christians were, in fact, free to eat things sacrificed to idols ( one of the things Christians were advised to "abstain from" in Acts 15 ) so long as doing so did not stumble their brothers. (1 Cor. 8:4,7-9) We also know this because Paul said that for Christians, "All things are lawful but all things are not beneficial." (1 Cor. 6:12)
That the Watchtower Society does not, or at least claims they do not, understand this is very hard to believe. I think Brother Jensen has to seriously consider the possibility that the Watchtower Society is not what it claims to be, Christ's "faithful and discreet slave," and the possibility that it may, in fact, be nothing more than another man made religion which cares much more about saving face and protecting its corporate interests than it cares about "the truth."
However, Brother Jensen does seem to care about truth. And for that I commend him. He will be in my prayers tonight.

Apostate Hall of Fame
by RunningMan ini would like to take a moment to pay tribute to those giants of apostasy, those pioneers who have paved the way for the rest of us to apostatize in relative comfort and security.
so, with no further introduction, i present my rendition of: .
the apostates (kingdom) hall of fame.

I take exception to one of your nominees in category #5, Kent Stienhaug. As Pete Rose has been kept out of the Baseball Hall of Fame due to his immoral and embarrassing activities, Kent Stienhaug should be banned for life from the Apostates Hall of Fame for the same reasons. His tasteless attacks on Jesus Christ and his filthy mouth have no doubt caused many JWs, who may have given serious consideration to what apostates have to say, to cover their eyes and quickly run back to "the truth."
Kent should be let into the Apostate Hall of Fame when they let Pete Rose into the Baseball Hall of fame, and not a minute sooner.

As I recall, when Amazing was a JW he claimed to be of the anointed. Now when I was a dub, not too long ago, it was my experience that many of those who claimed to be "of the anointed," at least the younger ones, were usually people who were pretty full of themselves. I think there were also a few who did so because they really did have a close relationship with God and Christ, and as true Christians they somehow inherently knew that the JW's two classes of Christians doctrine is a bunch of baloney, and that all true Christians are anointed with God's Spirit and will one day rule with Christ.
I would like to think that Amazing was one of the latter group of JW younger anointed ones I just mentioned. However, the fact that he now no longer even believes in God makes me seriously doubt that he was once one of the few true Christians in the Watchtower organization. That leaves those who were pretty full of themselves.
But I guess Amazing could be one of a third group, an exJW who was, when he was a JW, a true Christian, who has now fallen away from Christ. Unless, of course, you believe in the doctrine of "once saved always saved." If you do then I guess Amazing gets bumped back into the full of himself catagory.
I hope you have a sense of humor, Amazing. : )

Andee: You told me to "keep selling your rags and turning in your time cards"
I'm an ExJW. My screen name means I am "Faithful to Jehovah." It does not mean I am faithful to a bunch of men who falsely claim to be his spokesmen. So get off my case.

Amazing: I don't post here much. But I do spend a lot of time here reading and learning. I think why some people here like Eric may think that you have a high opinion of yourself is because most of the stuff you post is about yourself, or maybe I should say about your experiences. While most of what many other people post here is about issues and ideas, how they think the Bible should be understood, why they think JWs are not God's organization, things like that.
Now to me this does not necessarily mean you have a big ego. It may just mean, that as a former elder you have more interesting "inside" experiences to tell than most people here. However, judging from some of the comments you have made lately, I think it may also sadly mean that you no longer have any positive issues and ideas to share with us. (I think you have recently said that you have not just lost your faith in the Watchtower organization but that you have lost your faith in the Bible and in God Himself.) If you now believe in nothing greater than yourself that may partly explain why all your posts are about nothing greater than yourself.

Quality of this Forum
by stevieb1 injust a quick thought - i am a firm believer in freedom of speech etc, but having been on this forum for some time i honestly can't say that i can introduce a doubting jw interested in true christianity to this board.
some of the deep discussions on jw doctrine are excellent, but everything else seems to be nonsense in my opinion.
why can't this site be more like the old www.witnesses.net which seemed to have more spiritual meat rather than backbiting, gossip, and rumour and even obscenity.. sorry for my frank opinion

space.com dates Noah's flood to 2350 B.C.
by aChristian inthe watchtower society dates noah's flood to 2370 b.c.e.
they do this by following bible chronology quite closely, counting backwards from 607 b.c.e., their date for babylon's destruction of jerusalem.
however, as we know, the society's date for that event is in error.

AC: I vote for none of the above. I predict Clashy will return for the sole purpose of condemning us all to Hell and telling us that we are all unworthy of any more of his attention. At least that is what I am sure he was going to do until I predicted his next move. Now he does not know what to do. Because he does not want to prove me right. But I was right, wasn't I, Clashy?
