I agree on the Wanderer on this one, if one is going to be open-minded, they should at least give the otehr side a thought and not scoff it off as mere ignorance.
Vehemently being athiest and attempting to prove that there is no God and refer to theists as living inside a dreamland and being ignortant is no diffrent than an Evangelical Baptist threatenening a bunch of athiests that they are going to Hell.

You Believe in God? Who cares?
by proplog2 ini think this is a good thread to post feelings about the various evolution/creation and atheism/theism disputes on this discussion board.. i don't really care whether most people believe in god or not.
all i care about is that science keeps doing its job.
most theists are going to contribute almost nothing to the next stage of scientific progress.

JWs and College
by cabasilas ini'm looking for recent information about the wt society discouraging jws from going to college.
i already have the 2005 wt article which went back to the old line discourging post-secondary education.
are there other statements from our kingdom ministry or more recent watchtowers since then?.

I have a feeling those two quotes from the Bible are grossily misquoted.
I think they discourage higher education because it interferes with preaching and attending meetings a lot, they want your butts under thier noses 24/7.
Also that in universities, they offer theology courses which may tempt a JW. And in there they might discover how off track Watchtower doctrine is with the Bible, or that the Bible is not as infallable as it seems. Also they would learn things in Psychology and Science classes that go against WTS teachings, espcecially on homosexuality and human civilizations before 6,000 years ago.
In other words education is poision to blind faith. Think of the movie, "The village".
And there is the concern they might attend a "Cristiendom" afficiated university, that would teach them "Christiendom" teachings, and expose them to filthy "Christiendom" people. -

The Catholic Church reverses it's teaching on Limbo
by moshe invatican city (april 21) - pope benedict xvi has reversed centuries of traditional roman catholic teaching on limbo, approving a vatican report released friday that says there were "serious" grounds to hope that children who die without being baptized can go to heaven.. .
will wonders never cease.
perhaps the wt society will soon open up the gates of heaven to all jw's soon, too..

Heh so Rutherford had beef with the RCC? No wonder they often like to poke at Catholics and ignore more liberal christian groups. Also a lot of JWs were once Catholic.

JESUS REFUTES THE WATCHTOWER'S BLOOD POLICY
by Terry inthe watchtower bible and tract society represents itself as christian.. it represents its theology and policies as direct from jehovah god through his son, jesus christ.
further, the governing body of this corporation interposes itself between the mediator, jesus, and the rest of jehovah's (christian) witnesses for the purpose of "feeding them (spiritual) food at the proper time.. the official word of jesus christ is represented in the watchtower's policy on blood transfusions.. in 1998 this statement was made:.
jehovah's witnesses do not accept whole blood, or major components of blood, namely, red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and plasma.

w00t!
Eheheh shows the damage of misinterpreting and mistranslating the Bible!
Sheesh, these people are sacrificing children to the WTS, I wouldn't be suprised if there was a statue of a golden bull somewhere there. -

Putting The Kingdom First.....
by Sunspot inif i had a dollar for all the times i heard this----*i* would be basking in a multimillion $$$ estate in the bahamas.
every jw was told this over and over at every meeting and convention the wts had the doors open for.
what i didn't realize was that jesus words were being twisted yet again by the men who write for the watchtower, as they continually shouted this into their loyal and obedient (tm) followers ears.. yes....jesus said for his followers to put his kingdom first in our lives......he didn't say to put the watchtower first in your lives!!!

This is what frightens me most about JWs(yeah I decided not to be baptized afterall)
When I was at an Assembly last month, even the songs they sing have phrases like, "train our thinking", "us sheep like ones", and "shield our thoughts". Then there was a talk on "Jehovah's thinking is far superior than man's thinking!".
With what I know now, I could have quipped, "You mean a doomdayist, for profit, bible misquoting, ignorant, Orwellian, male dominated, organization in New York with origins in occult and the Millerites?" -

nvrgnbk, QFT!
Writing and math and singing also were invented by pagans.
Pretzels have "Christendom" origins because they were made by a monk teaching some kids how to pray, or at least that's what they said in Food Network.
Visiting Japanese gardens, watching Hula dancing, and reading fantasy novels are most likely also condemmed by JWs.
As for the Yoga thing I'm not suprised, I have heard of a JW who didn't want her kids to play sports because it encouraged compitetion because "competition endoreses hate, violence and comes from Satan", and "involves luck which is gambling which is also connected to Satan."
Keeping cats also comes from Satan too because pagans domesticated them because they were revered.
Pretty soon they are going to ditch their wedding rings. -

John 1:3
by VanillaMocha73 inhow do jw's get around this verse?
john 1:3 - "3through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
" i honestly can't remember and can't find anything in the pubs that deals with it.

I agree with Vice, we are trying to squeeze something outside of our common logic into a little understandable summary about one sentance long when it cannot fit that.
It's like Newton trying to comprehend quantam mechanics. -

Jehovah creates Evil according to Isaiah
by Grammy inisaiah 45:7 (american standard version)7 i form the light, and create darkness; i make peace, and create evil.
i am jehovah, that doeth all these things.

Maybe God has a split personality? Maybe even more than two personalities?

Do You Still Act Like A Jehovah's Witness?
by prophecor ini'm not very far removed, any longer from how i presented myself as a witness, and how i do today.
i'm usually polite, cordial, respectful of others, even those who i may have very little regard for or those who on a regular basis, piss me off.
i work very hard not to use foul language.

When I was growing up in the jdubs, they were worse than the "wordly kids", they cussed more, had more sex, drank, just to name a few, then they would sit in the KH with there watchtowers and awakes and act like good little dubbies!!! I hated it.
An ex Bethlite once said that in Bethel, there are parties with more debauchery than Spring Break.
I wouldn't be suprised if there was also a statue of a golden bull. -

this is an intruiging question and whatnot.
But when it comes to athiesm, one must be careful not to be so closeminded about the possibility of the divide and or supernatural either. So it can go either way, however I do know some athiests who are not like this, and some who are.
If there is one thing I find intruiging, is that "god-shaped hole" thing, though not every individual has it,for some odd reason even distant isolated societies feel the need to revere something powerful and invisible and offer sacrifices to it.
