I remember an elderly sister who said s#*t into the microphone. I was half asleep at the time, she lost her train of thought and it just slipped out. Woke me up. Looked around quite a few shocked faces and sniggers. The brother conducting the craptower study looked a little stunned but managed to drone on regardless.

Strange Talks
by AgentSmith inthe thread regarding how the ms and elders keeping up the facade while knowing its all wrong made me think of something.. this happened in the ministerial service meeting.
the ms started his part on the program but it was soon evident that he was not firing on all cylinders.
his speech was monotone, slurred even.

Similar story to many... Didn't belong as I was a member of that strange faith, didn't take education seriously because of the borg (now wish I had) didn't go onto higher education, just pioneered and waited for armaegeddon (when I was certain I would be destroyed)

Specific banned shows, songs, etc...?
by AllAlongTheWatchtower ini know the society tells people not to listen to rock n roll cause its from teh satan, not to watch r rated movies because they're "worldly", etc.
but i was wondering if folks had any specific instances where one song, one show, one movie, or whatever was singled out as being particularly 'evil', and banned on an individual basis?
i was never a jw, but was in the worldwide church of god...the two are rather similar, i've seen many (and made quite a few myself) comparisons on the board; and i can remember as a child that every once in a while certain things would get brought up as being more evil and worldly than others.. examples of specific bans:.

Just remembered another, who else can recall the games 'Pac-Man' & 'Space Invaders' being frowned upon...because of the violence they portrayed

I remember the awake article about ET. They were always harping on about Madonna (which was why I was sooo into her). Indie music was seen as a no. The Bangles 'Eternal Flame' (also supposed to have backward masking). Fleetwood Mac (Stevie Nicks is supposed to be a witch) All metal, punk and rap. Basic Instinct, yeah remember that one. Bon Jovi, Faith No More.

What injustice and abuse of power did you suffer at hand of elders?
by flipper inhow many of us suffered in the jws from a lack of justice, love, or abuse of power by elders?
how did it make you question what you believed or had been duped into believing?
would be good to hear experiences so we can bounce ideas off each other on how it freed you from fear of authority or otherwise.

Like Tyrone, I too had a hard ass elder in my congregation. He was promoted when I was 12, within a week he had me dragged in the back room of the KH as his wife had seen a boy in the school yard discretely hand me a piece of bubble gum, thought we were holding hands so I was accused of being on the pill and having sex with him. The following year I wagged school with the same boy so of course, I had to be on the pill and having sex with him. He also kept me back in the TMS with plenty of W's, or he'd make me go back to ones I'd done before so many friggin' times.... He told my mum I was an 'immoral girl' who was going to be destroyed at armaegeddon, that was the worst, to see the look of devastation in her face.
They have a real knack for making you feel so very, very small while they are so very, very
smugrighteous. -

I've just spent the better part of the day on the local university's website going through their "career decider" answering questions on education, skills, interests, lifestyle the works. I entered a strong interest in both the arts as well as computers and electronics. I have lots of interest and skills but not much on paper in the way of certificates. The result? One career choice - modelling from computers, electronics and the arts. What kind of dumb@$$ programmer designs a web site to come up with this kind of result?
So I'm asking.... Do you work in an industry covered by these areas? I'll willing to consider something in a clerical type role as well. Whats the pros/cons of your job? What do you love/hate most about it? What qualifications did you need? I am open to further education/training, pay dosen't have to be huge (don't make that much now). I would like to have a job that I enjoy for a change instead of dreading every Monday as much as I do now.
I'm just trying to locate some 'real world' opinions to help me make a choice with whats availible in my area.
Cheers

Paisley Ties Are Satanic, Sandals Are Immodest. What is Worldly????
by mtsgrad in20 years ago (in my teens!
) there was a well established rumour that the paisley pattern had demonic origins.
no brothers in my hall wore ties with that pattern, until a watchtower had a brother wearing a tie with this pattern.. a co said that sisters feet should not seen at the meetings for the sake of decency.

My Mum Would Have Been 66 Today...
by brinjen init's june 3rd, my mum's 66th birthday had she still been alive.... she passed away in 94 from cancer of the blood, she was diagnosed 3 weeks before.
she'd been experiencing severe pain in her legs and hips for months before hand.

Have you ever been able to speak with your dad about your questions?
Unfortunately, no. I didn't know him growing up. I managed to locate him a few years ago but he too passed away a few weeks after I made contact with him.
