Ohhhhh my. I am tempted to take my aging 46Ds (braless for many years now) down to the local KH to do a little shimmy in front of the elders. Think they'd have a communal stroke?
Wanna borrow my video camera?
20 years ago (in my teens!
) there was a well established rumour that the paisley pattern had demonic origins.
no brothers in my hall wore ties with that pattern, until a watchtower had a brother wearing a tie with this pattern.. a co said that sisters feet should not seen at the meetings for the sake of decency.

Later I was told by the same loser elder that the reason it was a no-no was because it would give a girl the feeling of what it is like to have SEX. Really!!!!!
OMG!!! Either that elder is really, really dumb or he has a really, really, REALLY small......
You can't help but wonder, as the rest of the world has been moving forward into the new milennium and ahead, the WTS is moving more and more backwards.
it's june 3rd, my mum's 66th birthday had she still been alive.... she passed away in 94 from cancer of the blood, she was diagnosed 3 weeks before.
she'd been experiencing severe pain in her legs and hips for months before hand.
but between taking care of her mother and the dub duties she couldn't get to see a doctor.

She passed away in 94 from cancer of the blood, she was diagnosed 3 weeks before. She'd been experiencing severe pain in her legs and hips for months before hand. But between taking care of her mother and the dub duties she couldn't get to see a doctor. She didn't really take the pains seriously either. By the time she did, her kidneys had completely failed and her liver was serverly damaged also.
I was very close to her, she wasn't what you would call a devout dub, loyal in a sense she attended the meetings, went witnessing, we studied etc but not over the top like a lot of the other congregation sisters where. We were outcasts as far as the congregation was concerned. When she was admitted into hospital the local elders didn't even notify the HLC of her situation as they didn't think her situation was serious enough. Kidney failure and being airlifted 300km to a hospital in the states capital as an emergency patient, but not serious.
I have so many questions I wish I could ask her. Why did you leave my father? Why did you return to the WTS? Why did you stay?
Anyway, happy birthday mom. Miss you, love you
Brinjen
curious to what that figure represents to potential losses to the borg?....
read on now that i have your attention..... .
on another thread the discussion was about congregations not donating enough.
Why do you think the Borg decentralized the printing out of NY (US) and moved it to stragetically located places around the world.....just in case Ceasar "persecutes" them.
Dosen't surprise me at all...
I do remember this happening here. Around the early to mid nineties Australia Post increased the cost of postage on certain items such as magazines. I think it was a drastic reduction in the discount publishers would receive for posting their publications to regular subscribers.
The WTS therefore announced they would no longer be able to 'afford' to post out such subscriptions and would instead deliver subscriptions to the congregations via freight and it would become the responsibility of the publishers to deliver the magazines to 'worldly' subscribers individually. On top of being unpaid salespersons, everyone then became unpaid posties!

I've often wondered about the Oz WTS and how much they would have to pay, smaller organisation but our minimum wage is $12 something per hour....
I remember hearing a year or so back our Treasurer, Peter Costello was wanting to take away tax exemption priveleges from charity and religious organisations that expressed certain sentiments that would be considered "anti-government". I waited to see what would happen, but nothing ever happened....
Problem is, even if they did have to pay they would find some way to adapt. Increase the cost of the publications, hit members for more donations. Even move permantly to countries such as India where labour is so much cheaper.
a couple months ago my jw mom told me that in all the book study groups for their congregation they were told to go out and by emergency kits because "things were getting so bad".
i restrained myself from rolling my eyes.
has anyone else heard of this happening?
I''ve never head of buying an emergency kit, but at my KH I do recall being told (several times) we should always attend and pay attention at the meetings because if you don't a brother might one day be giving evacuation instructions on where to go etc when armaegeddon comes, "you don't want to die at armaegeddon because you didn't pay attention do you?"
as witnesses, you are trained to feel guilty.
i don't know if i'm rare regarding my guiltless feelings but i have not had any guilt whatsoever after leaving the witnesses.
not even a little bit.....what about you?
Guilt is a two edged sword used effectively by the WTS. If you feel guilty - BUSTED! you've done something wrong and you should be doing more in their jehovah's service. If you don't feel guilty, you're doing something wrong, you're unrepentant and you should be doing more in their jehovah's service.
It's a mind control tool and a very effective one at that. Especially with those who have low self esteems (as was in my case).
As Tyrone has pointed out...
Knowledge of yourself and phycholgy helps as well.
I'm 'lucky' in one aspect, I was the only surviving member in my family who was still with the dubs so I had no family shunning me when I left. My Uncle helped me a lot. He was raised as a dub but ran screaming when he turned 17, never got baptized, just left home and went to university never to return to them. When I stopped attending he told me to
"If you believe it is the truth, then it's right for you, if you don't, then don't waste your time even thinking about them, why feel guilt over something you don't believe in?" That's good advice.
Once you understand why you (and so many others) feel this way, you get over your guilt.
were you dfed, did you find out some lies about the org?.
what was the last straw?
I just stopped attending. Can't really say why but it felt good, to get some sense of having a life. So I continued to stay away from the KH, didn't go witnessing either. The elders obviously didn't miss me, they paid me a visit after a few months to inform me I'd been seen buying cigarattes (I'd been smoking for a couple of years at that stage but they didn't know that). The more I stayed away, the more I was able to think. The more I was able to think the less I wanted to go back.
i've been inactive for about 10 years now, and its time for me to get rid of some of my wt stuff, but what do i do with it all???
i have all the wt stuff on a bookshelf in a spare bedroom, but now i need this shelf space.
what i most want to get rid of first are the wt & awake bound volumes.
I got rid of my literature years ago...
I too began by just throwing the stuff away.... Until I realised this was a waste so I took the rest to a local secondhand dealer. With the money I bought myself some cigarettes and a bottle of scotch, now theres an ad campaign for 'Cash Converters' I'd like to see!
what do you think?
should he be put on trial before a world court?
Weapons Inspectors who were in Iraq at least a year before the invasion occupation of Iraq began were reporting no signs of WMDs. Yes Saddam kept kicking them out, I know. One Australian inspector who resigned in protest even reported being told by our government to not inspect certain sites as they suspected there were no WMDs and they wanted to keep some areas as a mystery so they could use the argument "we didn't know". Sounds like lies to me.
