Marrying an "unbeliever." Even though we have since parted company, it was the beginning of the end of my WTS servitude.

i always tried to my best as a jw, to observe what the watchtower and bible told us "not to do".
then i became inactive and lowered my guard, and didn't care as much.
i think that my first jw sin, was playing lotto, then talking to disfellowshipped ones in my congregation, then posting on apostate forums, and then giving blood.

i am a history buff, so i consider myself as having crossed the rubicon on may 1, 2007. that was the date of my first post on this forum.
the warm welcome and replies to my subsequent posts showed me that i had nothing to fear.. i want to thank simon and all of you guys for treating me so kindly.
i lurked for seven years before i could bring myself to participate.
BTW - without giving too much away, can I assume your nickname means you were formerly from the northern regions? If so, hopefully the climate you're now in is more to your liking!
Gopher,
No, I get my nickname from a combination of my last name and the fact that I was told by classmates that I reminded them of a little bird. Yes, my opening salvo was when I told the BOE that I DO NOT wish to return to the meetings!!!

I lost faith in the WT organization a long time ago, and I thought no one else could be trusted. Thank y'all again for your patience and support. I have a story to tell, but for now I am not ready to tell it. Suffice it to say I've come a long way, baby.

i just cannot understand how any one in their right mind can read the experiences here concerning the wachtower society's false claims, lies, trickery and deceit, and the example shown by the so-called "elders" in treating the flock with disdain and cruelty, and still stay a jehovah's witness.. lurkers, how can you do that?
do you simply dismiss all the evidence?
have any of you experienced such evil acts personally and still stay connected to the jw's?.
As I've mentioned before, I lurked for seven years before I could muster enough courage to post. I knew all about the UN/NGO, Mexico-Malawi, alternative service reversal, etc. I went to my last meeting in 2005; I simply couldn't take it any longer.
My daughter still attends all meetings and is pioneering this summer. Were it not for that little fact, I would have disassociated myself a long time ago. Each of us has to move at our own pace. What's right for some may not be so right for others.

Thanks for all your replies. Isn't it wonderful to think outside the box of JWdom? I suppose that is why the WTS views independent research so negatively. Just think what it would be like if this kind of discussion could be carried on at the KH!!!
Have a wonderful morning/afternoon everybody.

Who wrote the Book of Hebrews? Apollos? Barnabas? Luke? Paul?
While with the JW's, I assumed it was written by the Apostle Paul. However, a careful reading shows the author is unnamed. Wonder why?

Hey and Welcome, 38 years. I lurked for 7 years before I posted anything. I think you will like it here. I had reached the point that if I heard "faithful and discreet slave" one more time, I was going to go absolutely, positively mad. I was beginning to hate those meetings with a complete hatred!

recall that karl marx coined his much-used expression, religion "is the opium of the people.
how would you complete the expression?
...then the wts is ....
If religion is the opium of the people, the WTS is...
A field of poppy plants!

ok, here's the link to the second "fun with covers" video i've posted.
i took the covers from the various cover redo threads and made slideshows.
people seem to like them.
Be Content With Poverty, College Is For White Folks ....Spot on! That seems to have been the prevailing attitude in 1974 when I came in. And I went along with it because you didn't agitate the dots in the spiritual paradise.

just left my sister who is definitely still in.
she was scheduled to go on a bethel tour this summer, but she said it was canceled.
she stated that apparently not enough interest was shown.. anyone else hear of something like this?.
You guys are just too much! Yeah, I meant that not enough local people showed enough interest. They were going to Brooklyn, Patterson, Wallkill and over into Canada. She was really looking forward to going, but seemed relieved that the show was no longer on.
