With me being black and living minutes away from where Purps lives, I can say that there truly is alot of expressed racism around here. I've been called the N word several times by children back when I was younger, so i'm very sure it was learned from their parents. Unfortunately, racism will always exist. I'm glad your daughter is standing up to this.

Being Prejudiced
by purplesofa inmy daughter(she is feeling much better btw) sat down with me a little while ago to tell me about a conversation she had with her boyfriend over the phone.
the guy he works with is black and seems he has been calling him the n word, i don't think to his face, but my daughter has heard him say it.
so she says something to him about it and how wrong she thinks it is.

What Gilead Taught ME
by AllTimeJeff inthey mean the leadership.
all of this is code for: one who is not ready to really study and accept how the leadership of jehovah's witnesses use the bible to their own self serving means.
but to be fair, jw's teach that most all of these characters refer to the leadership of jehovah's witnesses, the governing body.

I agree with everything you're saying here. This paragraph especially caught my attention.......
"Mature" JW's is a misnomer. It has nothing to do with maturity. That is code for "willingness to believe whatever you are taught, and to follow whatever the GB says, even if they change back and forth on doctrine in a god-dishonering fasion." Mature ones are impatient with the immature for questioning what they are taught. Mature ones become elders, ministerial servants and pioneers more quickly because they blindly obey. To question, esp after any period of time elapsing after baptism, means you are "immature".
This truly is the religion's concept of what being spiritually "mature" really is, and it shows that the religion in itself is a sham, having nothing to do with real spirtual maturity. It's all about blind obedience to a group of men, nothing else. Also, when I saw more and more how the GB was teaching the the Bible is for them, the "anointed", then that's when I started to slowly drift away from their belief system.
Great thread! Thanks for taking the time to post this. I always thought you had an interesting experience with the religion that allows you to offer some good insights to others wanting to leave it.

I remember the illustration using a pencil and the speaker would start at the eraser and go down the pencil.
We are at the lead, no brothers and sisters we are at the point, the tip of the lead of this pencil. Very dramatic.
This was years ago, wonder where we are at on that pencil now?I remember that one Purps. I guess now we're on the extreme end of the tip of the pencil, just barely holding on lol.

Do you feel embarrassed, humiliated, anger that you were a Jw?
by LouBelle ini ask because some posters say they felt totally humiliated, or wonder how they could have been sucked in, or some are extremely bitter and angry about their past.
over the nearly 4 years i've come to totally accept that i was a jw, but have made my peace, and honestly can say i've forgiven, if you will, that part of my life.
totally moved on and do not have negative feelings about it.

Well if anything I used to beat myself up over the fact that I was once so heavily involved in it. Now i'm fine, hardly even thinking about my time in it, even though that was very hard to do since I was a born-in.

What kind of difference has JWD made in your life?
by JimmyPage ini feel fortunate that there is already a built-in online community i can go to where people can relate to having been a jw and where it's okay to express your true feelings about that.
i'm thinking it must have been much more difficult a decade ago.
so what kind of impact has this website had on your life?

It made me glad to know there were so many that I could relate to on the JW experience, and to get great advice on how to handle some things on the exit out of the religion. I've also made a few wonderful friends too from here.

Kind of picking up where I left off before JWs. I was in college when I got baptized at 20 then dropped out to pursue "more important spiritual goals". Now that i've walked away from the religion i'm back in school.

Did you still attend gatherings after you faded?
by truthseeker init's hard work pretending when you're doing the fade - it's even harder when for one reason or another, you make a decision to attend a "gathering".. i found i stopped looking at people as i used to and looked at them in a different light, new light - it can never be the same again..
