Anyone else have an aversion to singing?
by AllAlongTheWatchtower ini was reading the threads http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/129051/1.ashx (remember the song make the truth your own?
) and http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/9/136242/1.ashx (the messages are always there), and was reminded that i had been intending to post something along these lines before and never got around to it.
note: i was raised in the wcg (armstrong), not a jw, but i've found they're similar in many ways, and i believe this to be another one:.

The Origin of the Idea of God.
by Blueblades inthe history of the question.
no one knows the exact origin of the idea of god in the human mind.
if the idea is true, it originated either from human reasoning, or from divine revelation, or from the experience and memory of a supernatural intimacy in eden, or from the experiences of the mystics, or from ordinary, present -type religious experiences.

Thank you. I think I'll go pick up the book. I have given the idea of whether or not thesr is a god a lot of thought since my fade. And I have wondered where the very concept of a god and of worship came from.
Currently, I consider my self agnostic. I don't feel there is a being that rules and watches over us, though I'm open to being proved wrong.

How honest about yourself are you here on this forum?
by restrangled ini guess i am too open.
many times i have been slammed and get furious with the results.
there are a few posters including some long time members and possible trolls that enrage me.

I'm honest in that what I say is completly true. However, being a fader and not wanting to stir anything up I have to be careful about disclosing to much info. When I feel the need to say something revealing, I PM someone rather then putting it out here for "anyone" to see. It's one thing that makes me want to DA.

I told my parents I no longer believe the Watchtower Society
by B_Deserter inthey insisted i come over for a debate, a chance for them to save me since according to my mother this was "a matter of life and death.
" basically i spent the whole evening passively nodding my head and acknowledging what they said.
i tried a few times to argue or debate but getting through to them was impossible.

'I have nothing to look forward to'
by darth frosty inmy 81 year old mother has alzeimer's.
visiting with her yesterday, she said she would rather go ahead and die ,because 'i have nothing to look forward to.
' this is a woman who's earnest prayer as she found herself getting old in this system of things, was to live to see 'armegedon'.

I have in my family those who have grown very old in this system. They are bewildered, they trully did not see this coming. It's very sad. But the "buck stops here", I'm "no spring chicken", but the rest of my life will be lived to the fullest. I enjoy every day and look forward to learning, changing and having new experiences for as long as I have strength. When my time is up, I'll have no regrets.

Dear Scotsman: I too am glad you are here. Whether or not you have figured it out yet, you are here because you have doubts. You are here because something deep inside of you is nagging at you and you don't know what it is. You will soon be one of us, and when you realize that you will feel free for this first time since you became a witness.
I do not give too many details of my own expereince in the open forum, as I am a "fader' and do not what to "get into trouble", but believe me, I've seen it all. I spent an entire lifetime in the "truth", not on the fringes put in the center of the mix. The WT is NOT the truth. Never was, never will be. Once you realize that, at first you will be reeling, but you'll get your bearings soon enough, and slowly but surerly all the scales will fall off of your eyes. You will see everything in a whole new light .
It's wonderful to be free. I can't wait till you join us.

Guard against "Independent Thinking"
by PinTail inyes when i heard them say to guard against "independent thinking" at .
assembles, congregation meetings, and in print, i immediately feel a cold feeling run down my back, like something evil and not jehovah.
thinking about it now, i can't" understand how everyone else who is still a witness cannot be just as unsettled by the admonishment to guard against "independent thinking".

The concept never sat well with me either. Now that I've faded I just don't understand how they all sit there and take it. How dare they tell people not to think independantly! How brainwashed we were to go along with it!

JWs and Love towards their families
by R.F. inthis is something that just popped in my mind suddenly.. but i was thinking about over the years the many comments of jws about loved ones.
for instance, one sister was speaking of her disgust with her children not accepting the "truth".
she gladly tells anyone of what she told them; that if they don't accept it before armageddon that it's too bad.

RF, I too heard statements like those many, many times. The reason for such unfeeling attitudes is that the WT does not teach unconditional love. While I agree that not everyone is worthy of our unconditional love, our children certainly are. I think unconditionl love defines parenthood. To not love out children unconditionally is child abuse. I speak from experience, my parents love was very conditional.

We all feel the pain of the WT, now what will we do about it?
by dawg ini just wanted to make one simple statement... i've heard many say that they can't get out of this bull, they just faded so they wouldn't have to deal with all the issues that are sure to arise if they use confrontation.
many have said they can't stand to lose family members and the like and that's why they've chasen to fade rather then speak out.
here's what i've lost becasue i've chosen to tell the truth about the bastards.

I'm trully sorry for the loved ones you've lost, but I must point out that you have not lost children. There is no greater pain than that and only a parent can relate to what I say.
Also, while I understand your rage, I wish you could be a little less one sided. "There is more than one way to skin a cat". There is absolutely no need for all of us to make our escape from the WT in the same way. What suits one personality may not suit another. By taking the "my way or the highway" attitude you fail to validate the struggle and sacrifices all of us have gone through. Just because some of us are not DF'd or DA'd does not mean we have not made and continue to make sacrifices. And just because we are the "quiet type" does not mean we can't be agents for change. Sometimes it's best to "win them w/o a word", sometimes it's not.
