hey all,.
i just came across this site today and i decided to join the gang :).
don't worry about the topic, i am not a jw that is trying to convert you back into the religion.
I'd appreciate a list of all the "positive" things you've found about this religion. I have a hard time doing that after being in it for 25 years.
I like your spirit.

i request the first ones to read this post, to save this post on your hard drive.
i understand this forum is not moderated, and have carefully worded this post with the utmost consideration for simon.
however, in case gremlins cause it to mysteriously vanish, you can share this post with others who might want to know a little about me.
Just a couple of observations.
You represent as "fact" that "There is too much swearing on this site." That's your opinion, buster. And it's like all opinions, subjective. I don't get the impression you understand the difference between subjective and objective. It's a fact because you think it is, end of discussion. How Borg-like.
I didn't last long on your site. Maybe a dozen posts in all. I didn't use words on your site that you would have objected to. What I did do was to point out failed prophecies of the WTBTS, abuses of children in my own experience, and other very unfortunate behaviors of the organization and of my personal experiences with various of its "elders."
My posts didn't last on your site 24 hours and they were deleted without so much as a by-your-leave, kiss-my-ass, good-bye, or any other comment. You even deleted my post that said such deletions were the acts of a coward. You deleted my post addressed to the GB. You deleted damn near every thing I posted there.
You protest way too much.
But having said that, I urge Simon to not only leave your post on this board throughout all future time, but to arrange it so that it stays ON TOP of all other posts forever.

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a Jehovah Witness, this book may very well serve to inspire them to pause, take a deep breath, and think very carefully about what they're getting into. It's the "rest of the story" the other side of the one being told them by their study conductor.
This book presents a very accurate picture of life in the organization as it is lived from day to day in that rather unbelievable organization.

didn't know where to post this, but i thought it might be fun.
it was in ann landers or some such place years ago.. if you had your life to live over, say from age 16 or 18 onward, what 5 things would you do differently?.
my choices might be:.
Patio. Not really. I'll never rest until I can play the Grieg Piano Concerto in A Major from memory.

a brother just told me about a new assembly procedure.
during the program at his d.c. this past week-end (cornwall, ontario) the chairman asked everyone to pick up their belongings and leave the stadium immediately.
everyone gathered in a nearby park.
They have a point you know. Nobody can clear an auditorium faster than ten thousand JWs who think they're off the hook for the rest of the day.

if this has been answered before, just point me in the right direction.
matthew 28:19 says to be baptized in the "name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost.
" what is the justification used in jehovah's witnesses changing this.
If I may offer the observation that it strikes me as awfully impertinent to take the position that the absolute nature of the Infinite God may be conceived by the partial, finite and material mind of mortal man.
It's the sub-set attempting to describe the set.
It's the partial incomplete attempting to describe the complete and final.
It's laughable, that's what it is.
Frankly, we don't know; there's no way for us to know. And further, isn't it irrelevant? Only two laws, remember? All this existential bickering doesn't further our quest one iota, does it?

serious questions for every serious believer in jehovah (or god).. .
i hope they will be helpful to jehovah's witnesses on this board, as well as to all who believe in god.
i think i have phrased the questions fairly, without emotionalism, and have not distorted the meaning of the bible stories (comments?)..
1 If you felt sure God's will for you was to sacrifice your life, in the manner Jesus did, would you do it?
YES
2 If you felt sure God would perform some great act for you, would you pay God the sacrifice of your child's life, as Jephthah did? (Judges 11:30,31)
NO
3 If you felt sure God wished it, would you sacrifice your child to him as Abraham was intending to do? (Genesis 22:2,10)
NO
As for the organizational questions, the answers are all NO. Simply because I don't for a minute believe that God acts through any organization.
i received this recently from my mother.
the only contact i've had with any of my family since october has been an occasional email.
you are 28 years old and you made the choice to put yourself, and us, in this position.
Kent is right I think.
Your mother is engaging in the most gross form of guilt-tripping and emotional manipulation. Any indication, no matter how slight, that her technique is working on you and you will never hear the end of it.
When I was in your position, I was accused of being cold and uncaring because I refused to be moved by attempts to manipulate via guilt. How odd. You show yourself to be an emotionally mature adult, refusing to be manipulated by guilt - and you've got something wrong with you!
Religion is an emotional phenomena, and your mother is acting from an emotional base. What could be more natural?

the watchtower society is out with a window dressing article on its web page these days.
it has the title: .
love of neighbor.
I'm with Tina. A thousand years with Jehovah's Witnesses? I'd rather be dead.
As for their so-called love for their neighbors, that's fine until you realize that "neighbor" to the J-Dubs has been re-defined to mean "other JWs."
