thought sparked by another thread where i said i'd move to the us if i won the lottery: if you could move wherever you liked in the world (in this fantasy, all your material, intellectual, emotional and spiritual needs are taken care of so that you can make this move), where would it be, and what would be the basis for your decision?.
q: how do you know a dub loyal to "jehovah's organisation" is lying?.
a: their lips are moving.
Someplace where it is snowy, foggy, and rainy a lot. I like the snow and fog and rain and stuff. I write better when it's nasty out and I'm safe and snug and stuff inside by the fire. With my dog's head on my lap and my woman at my fee...um, with my dog at my feet and my woman by my side.

there is a "brother" in our hall, or rather ..there was a "brother", or more exactly, there was a guy who was studying hard and was already being called "brother" but who was not yet baptised, ...in our hall, who is mr. internet guru.
this guy lives and breathes internet... it's his job.. anyway, every meeting i went to, and saw this guy still warming his chair, was a surprise to me.
i would go to the hall and on the way in i would ask myself "is he still going?
You wouldn't have his email address by any chance?

(ecclesiastes 7:12) "for wisdom is for a protection [the same as] money is for a protection; but the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom itself preserves alive its owners.
(hosea 6:6) for in loving-kindness i have taken delight, and not in sacrifice; and in the knowledge of god rather than in whole burnt offerings.. (proverbs 1:7) "the fear of jehovah is the beginning of knowledge.
wisdom and discipline are what mere fools have despised.".
Logical, I vote that as one of the best responses I've ever seen on this board to any post at any time on any subject.

recently at my local district convention it was stated by a speaker that he had met someone on the the ministry who had told him that fred ranz was one of the three best hebrew scholars in the world.. this didn't sound true to me for several reasons, but could anyone with knowledge of this suject shed some light on the matter?
I think the word that would most accurately describe Freddy's scholarship is penultimate.

its been a while since i read stephen r. covey's _the 7 habits of highly effective people_ and i do not feel like looking up the section i am getting ready to mention.
but i think i recall covey talking about the unhealthy habit of becoming overly engrossed in one activity or pursuit.. it seems that there are individuals using this medium of communication whose life's aim is to "help" jws out of the "borg" or 'bring down the tower.
if it tricks your trigger, i guess there is nothing anyone can do to prevent you from "helping" jws out of the "borg.
It requires prodigious balls for a JW to call anyone else monomaniacal.
this may take a while to explain, but if you read through and respond i'd appreciate it.
i became best friends with a jw about two years ago.
we were the best of friends.
I agree with "Totally Lost" that you should read her story. It's very interesting and revealing.
I'm most curious to know by what are you motivated? What do you hope to accomplish with the information about which you're so interested? What are you going to do with the information?
If you plan on getting your half-sister to change her direction because of your wealth of facts about JWs, I fear you're in for a big disappointment. There is hardly anything stronger than new love, and that's what you're describing.
BTW, JWs are not a religion in any sense of the word. The organization of Jehovah's Witnesses is a full-blown cult. You can get on any search engine and look for "cult definitions" or "cult practices" or any number of other search arguments and get a list of the characteristics of a cult. You'll find that JWs conform to the definitions of a cult. And the more you know of the JWs, the easier it is to see that they are indeed a cult. Of course, even when presented with the facts of the definition of cultism, the JWs deny it. And that's what you'd expect.
joel, i want you to know i can think of no other poster who shows as much humanity, as much compassion and insight as you, particularly when it comes to the human condition.. thank you for sharing yourself and your journey so openly; i'm grateful for that.
you obviously have picked up many helpful tools in your recovery toolkit, and when you not only share them with us but show how to use them, how they can benefit us, we are the richer.. i need not say more, than that you are loved very much.. maximus.
who once in a while learns from joel a leeeetle more than he needed to, but what else is new?
Joel, you live in Atlanta, right? My old stomping grounds! If you've posted that you're depressed I've missed it somehow. Been there too, recently. Had it not been for some of the new depression meds that are available now, I might still very well have been there.
We come to Atlanta from time to time and next time I'm on my way, I'll let you know in case you'd feel like getting together we can make a plan.

this just popped into my head today while stuck in traffic.. look at this picture of bill gates.... .
this guy looks like the perfect ms... can't you just see him conducting a book study.... i gotta stop drinking so much coffee...
Looks like he's collecting the swag for a roll of Watchtowers to me.
i was wondering, for those of you who have left the organization, how long did the transition take?
i mean, how long after you left did you feel up in the air, in turmoil, lost, unsettled?
long long before you felt comfortable with the decision and basically happy with your life?
It is said that a marriage is over about two years before it hits the courts.
As far as I'm concerned, my association with the JWs was over long before I left. So when I did leave, there was no adjustment period.
