I'm in love...
by Confession inwhile i've never been a prolific contributor here at jwd, some may have noticed my dramatically curtailed participation.
that's because on the evening of saturday, may 19th, i shared a kiss with the woman in the below picture, and that kiss turned into a dramatic and passionate adventure.
one that we're still both enjoying, and that we've decided to continue.... she is the most exciting, loving, fun, smart, sexy and beautiful woman i have ever met.

Rutherford: was he all that bad? (And how can we understand him if he was?)
by slimboyfat inis there no one else who finds the rather one-dimensional character of apostate discourse on the society's third president a bit empty?
even if it didn't end up that way, isn't it likely he was initially motivated by a concern for the truth, the same way many are drawn to the witnesses even today?
to paint someone as a villain is to invite incomprehension as to how they could have acted as they did.

You have a point Slim
I guess with his qualities, if he'd been a general in a war we'd be praising his achievments and viewing him as a hero.

?Please explain Evolution to me in simple terms
by Guest with Questions inand please dont give me links to read.
i dont want a complicated version; just a very simple explanation on the theory of evolution, and if possible, in your own words.
many of us are very ignorant on this subject and it seems that a few here are very knowledgeable so i hope you can help me and others also.. also if you believe in the theory of common descent, could you explain that to me also?

good topic, guest - I like the simple explanations so far, they do make sense.

Duality, hierarchy, or permanence: WHAT is the question?
by Narkissos inwhile meditating -- in a definitely non-transcendental way -- over the recent "meditation" threads, the following idea came to my mind:.
meditation as often advocated here rightly questions the hierarchical dualities generated by mental activity, such as (or, perhaps, all boiling down to) "good vs. bad" -- hierarchical inasmuch as -- would you have guessed?
-- one is supposed to be better, more valuable than the other; one is definitely to be pursued and the other shunned.

Btw I don't think (re: quietlyleaving's post) that even "fluidity" or "flexibility" is to be advocated. There is a place for everything, and for differences of nature. If everything was fluid as water we wouldn't have rivers. If everything was flexible as a grass blade we would never sit under an oak.
Which reminds me, I also question the outrageous focus on the present ("now") in popular mystical speech. Weren't it for time, and especially the past, we would have neither stars nor mountains nor trees. What makes us different (and interesting) is the sum of past experiences (and desires and fears for the future).
Iow I tend to accept whatever "is". The "ideas" in my mind just as the flowers in the grass. Nothing is "delusion," everything "is" -- onlydifferently.
glad you mentioned flowers cos think I'm understanding what you are saying through nature. The various stages and cycles of life - nothingness (before the seed is formed), then the seed, after that lost and looking for soil, germinating, occupying a stable form as a plant, blooming and dying. So a place for everything, the struggle, the stability, the joy, the sadness etc

"hacking" the wt lib and results
by DeusMauzzim ini just remembered i found a way to map the citation of bible chapters in the watchtower library (representing 30 years of wt literature).
the results are quite interesting.. higher number means more citations of that chapter in the wt literature of the last 30 years.
as you can see there are a few favorites .

Hi rightlydividingtheword
welcome
I too think you need to clarify the aspect you want explained.
As you can see from the replies you've had so far, JWD can asist you to examine the issue from many different perspectives and in the process it is also a voyage of discovery for us . For instance Terry has an amazing mind he'll very kindly take you down the analytical path, extremely helpful - searcher has his own relevant angle - pure genius - as for outlaw, what can I say other that he definitely is the bandit he says he is and can give you an outside view of the inside. Avengers is good on graphics
So have fun and get your questions answered at the same time.
