  Sacrafice, why?

  how did the idea develope among the semite people that sacrafice, the destruction of animal life, would be pleasing to god?.

  what purpose does it serve?.

  In a world in which people killed their own animals for food, it was only natural to make a religious ritual of it, at least sometimes, just as many people today still say grace before meals. Killing an animal as part of a ritual and then eating it is not, in itself, any more cruel than just killing the animal and then eating it. Thousands of animals are killed everyday far more than were ever just sacrificed in religious rituals !

  that is listed as a convict transported to Australia from Britain.

  Britain was in a program of clearing out all the troubled people to do hard time for even crimes that now would be

  Hope this isn't considered thread stealing but if your ancestry is from the British Ilse check

  the list on this Web site..... you may find your family name listed as a convict because just about

  everyone even petty things could get say 20 yrs..... then you'd be sent off from Britain to Australia !

  you know the jesus expression, " we are good for nothing slaves- what we have done is what we ought to have done.

  I see that on this thread dealing with discipline , control, expectations there are a predominance of male comments.

  Most thread that deal with emotions , inner peace... happiness.. contentment etc are female input ;could it be this is one area where males suffered the most as opposed to dad's darling daughters ? (I'm speaking in general terms please I mean no disrespect many otherwise

  abused females . )

  To answer your question Mr. Flipper .. I was raised by a very fringe but believing Dad... times were much easier

  here's something i've never been clear on, being raised as a jw: what is the standard, "orthodox christian" if you will, teaching with regard to where the soul goes after death for each of the following 3 scenarios:.

  1) a 3 month old baby, born to believing, saved christian parents, dies;.

  2) a 3 month old baby, born to non-christian parents, dies;.

  and racing around a pole. I must confess the only other event or ritual involving a goat that I know is

  called "scapegoat " Urban dictionary defines it a follows......

  Has your " Self Esteem " Improved After Leaving Jehovah's Witnesses ?

  it seems to be an issue that some have after leaving the witness cult because none of us were ever made to feel we were " good " enough or "valued " enough for what we were trying to accomplish in the cult.

  growing up i had pounded into my head by my jw elder father what jesus said, " after doing all things remember you are good for nothing slaves , what we have done is what we ought to have done.

  " then i thought to myself - " where's the joy in that ?

  I think self-esteem for the most part is an on going problem as we try to adjust to our new world

  out there after leaving behind cherished beliefs . The following quote helps us see the source of our self-esteem

  We all have a mental picture of who we are, how we look, what we're good at, and what our weaknesses might be. We develop this picture over time, starting when we're very young kids. The term self-image is used to refer to a person's mental picture of himself or herself. A lot of our self-image is based on interactions we have with other people and our life experiences. This mental picture (our self-image) contributes to our self-esteem.

  Self-esteem is all about how much we feel valued, loved, accepted, and thought well of by others — and how much we value, love, and accept ourselves. People with healthy self-esteem are able to feel good about themselves, appreciate their own worth, and take pride in their abilities, skills, and accomplishments. People with low self-esteem may feel as if no one will like them or accept them or that they can't do well in anything

  So you see the nature of the WT. system where you are constantly "under watch " with performance within the WT as the bench mark

  for who you are and how you are doing . The sacrifice of all personal goals and skills for the "kingdoms sake "

  In postponing are goals we also postpone our self-image or self esteem development !..... guilt replaces pride

  The first step to overcoming or at least minimizing the effect for lack of self-esteem is to understand its source

  encompasses beliefs (for example, "I am competent/incompetent")

  emotions (for example, triumph/despair, pride/shame). Behavior may reflect self-esteem (for example

  Actually self-esteem is tie in very closely to SElf-REALIZATION

  self-actualization according to Maslow simply as "the full realization of one's potential"

  They embrace reality and facts rather than denying truth. They are spontaneous. They are interested in solving problems. They are accepting of themselves and others and lack prejudice.

  psychological development that can be achieved when all basic and meta needs are fulfilled and the "actualization" of the full personal potential takes place

  Is not this most of the problem with ex-JW's .... we didn't embrace reality... we could be truly spontaneous for fear of being selfish

  rebellious ..... where are individual goals and skills were to be postponed to their full potential in" the new system"

  "So far I'm not getting a consistent picture of "orthodox" Christian teaching "

  Again a WT thought there must be only one true understanding of else all it lost. This would be very important

  if salvatiion depend on "accurate knowedge " New World translations Bible.. other Bibles say knowing God

  Love is the all important thing !
