Reading " Crisis of Consience", What did you Learn, How did it affect you?
by flipper inthought this would be good to discuss for the newbies and others just getting out of the witnesses, so they can have their thinking and appetites whetted of things they never knew coming out from under the witness organizations spell.
i know for myself, after reading this book, it totally clarified what the reasons were for all the control in the organization.
and i was informed of things i never had a clue that were going on behind the bethel scenes.

I like to think I am good gift giver in general. When I was an active JW, I was always careful to get my parents anniversary gifts. I started a special holiday for my kids "Boxing Day!" Mommy gets up really early and goes out and buys presents, then she sneaks them back into the house, wraps them up all fancy and we have a family party that night. We bake a cake and the kids decorate it anyway they like.
This year will be different. We are invited to join my friends family for X-mas. In fact, I am cooking the turkey for dinner. I have to admit I am really excited. I celebrated the holiday until I was 8 with my father and his parents. My kids are going to be soo excited.
My "worldly" family has never remembered my kids on any holiday or birthday. No gift sent early or with a note saying just because. I hesitate to send my grandparents pictures of the kids because they just send a cheque back. I dont' want them to only think of my babies when I remind them. I am not even going to tell them we are celebrating the holidays now because if they didn't want them before they won't want them now.
It is not just JWs who are poor gift givers.

What to do when your parents are toxic?
by Paralipomenon infrom reading people's stories and life experiences i thought i'd poll the members here for some advice.
my inlaws are extremely toxic.
i know, every person says that about their inlaws, but the way they treat their family is absolutely horrible.

I found I can save a lot by doing the weeks grocery shopping all in one trip. I make a list of the deals from each store and plan my meals accordingly.
I have discovered that we are saving approximately $30-$40 dollars a month by cutting out the little trips to the store. You go for milk and end up with muffins, bananas and milk.
I also use coupons, however I have to be careful not to buy something just because I have a coupon.
I take great pride in saving money and getting the best value for our money.
It is also a great feeling when you find an in-store special and you have money left in your budget to stock up. Remember those steaks Para?

What Do You Do for Work / Career?
by BlackPearl ini've been on the board for quite a while now and was wondering, what do my fellow jwdr's do for work, employment or career?
me, i'm in probably one of the most hated careers in america right now.
(not gonna tell you what it is either) but how about you, what do you do to earn a little coin?.

Money is not a big issue. I will call her as much as I can. The problem is, the time difference and three kids. Time is the issue.
She doesn't have a computer at home and only limited access at the local library.

Smell like a jock strap or like a perfumed girl? Shower Soap ?...
by Little Drummer Boy inon the strength that my recent post concerning cheetos went to 3 pages and was referenced in at least 3 other threads, i feel that the time has come to discuss another most important topic: shower soap.. this thread topic most definitely falls under the category of intellectual starvation topics, so you should be forewarned that terry will not approve.
heh...(just funnin' yah terry).
to the point: i here refer to a liquid soap meant to be applied to a wet shower poof and then scrubbed onto the skin.

What I don't understand is why on earth he can't just take the whole container of liquid man soap with him. Why does he have to put it in the little "please don't laugh at me, my mother makes me take this" container.

Last night I got a phone call from one of my oldest and dearest friends. We have been talking about doing some business together and I wanted to be honest with her about fading from the JW's. I told her that I was inactive and not planning on making any effort to return. She asked why? I asked her if she wanted the real reason or the sugar coated one and she asked for the truth. I said "Because I have lost faith in the society as God's earthly organization". She says "Wow, why?" I told her about 607 and about the blood fractions and mentioned the sept. KM. She put the phone down and I could hear her screaming in the back ground. I was a little worried and was very relieved when she got back on the phone and told me she had known for some time that there was something wrong with the organization and thanked me for telling her. That is when i told her about the court cases in the states. She was shocked.
Now the hard part. She asked me what she should do now. She has been missing a lot of meeting lately anyway so missing more will not raise any flags. She is single and very alone in the city. She needs a support group like JWD to help her but has no computer and limited access to the internet at work.
I will always be her friend and help from afar but I was hoping someone in Calgary could call her and talk to her as well. She needs someone to talk to who knows all the issues and can give advice on starting a new life away from the witnesses. If anyone can do this please PM me and I will set it up.

DAD'S how much time do you spend,,,,

Para also reads a book to the kids every night. He puts them to bed as well.
He watches them Saturday mornings so I can do the grocery shopping (I know I know, i should be in service, GAG ME) and I can also go to other stores I normally don't take three active boys. It is really hard to look at bras with your sons asking questions I am just not ready to answer.
He does "daddy day" with each child and they love it. All week long, "when is it my week".
We also go to the pool as a family one night a week. I get one night to go to my exercise class as well.
Para never looks at spending time with his children as "babysitting".

At the hall last night
by Shawn10538 ini went to the hall last night to get an insight book and a concordance.
i had set it up with an elder ahead of time to get them.
i arrived after the meeting had ended, walked up to the counter anxious to leave as quickly as i came when a big brother came up to me, planted his body in between me and the literature servant and started giving me the third degree about who i am, what is my standing in the congregation, and what did i want the books for.

Para got me an Aid book off Ebay.
He asked me why I didn't just borrow his mother's copy.
I just didn't feel right borrowing his pious JW mothers book to research why it is lies.
