I have a theory. Please take my poll!
by changeling ini'd like you all to tell me 2 or 3 things:.
1- were you raised a witness or not?.
2-if you were, was your family very "theocratic" or not so much?.

Well while I think it's an interesting poll but you have to take into account that people that are in an exjw foum are probably not necessarily an actual representation of all ex jw's. I mean most people here have been royally screwed over which would probably make them even more apathetic towards religion IMO. Just thinking of some alternative explanations for the results.

Could an EX-JW Dating Site work?
by Bourne inhey!
since the "in" and "active" jw's have their dating websites, what about us?
at the moment, i see myself, at a future date, feeling most comfortable with someone with a similar background, someone who understood the issues left over from the experience of being a jw.

I would like to echo another person's comment on here. It might work if you are lloking for more than just the exjw connection. I mean that will get you only so much. There has to be more involved. But I would have to say that for some reason I feel like I can automatically trust an ex JW more than a random person i meet. I guess it's all that brainwashing about how worldly people are so immoral. But right now I'm pretty happy to be on my own until i figure myself out first before i look for someone else. It would be interesting to see.....

What was the unforgivable sin supposed to be?
by White Dove inthe wts never really mentioned what it was.
-
mentalclearness
I always thought the unforgivaeable sin was apostacy. At least that was my understanding when I was in. But as far as an unforgiveable sin no one knows who has commited an unforgiveable sin because they have the chance to repent before Armageddon. So only Jah can say someone has sinned against the holy spirit I guess at the day of judgement. But that's all according to jw doctrine, not my own thoughts btw.

We always have turkey dinner around christmas because of the days off. All of my family get together. Which is a pretty big bunch. But it never bothered anyone. In fact I think that's quite common among jw's.
About the conventions during christmas and new years.. OMG in my congregation there was never a free holiday. We always got either an assembly or a co's visit on those days off so you could never plan a trip or anything.....seriously. this happened like 5 years in a row!!!!

Did you go out party/celibrate "New Years" while being a Witness!!
by Witness 007 inmost times i end up drinking alone listening to the neighbours party, and watching the clock tick by {my wife wen't to bed at 11 pm}...one time a witness friend of mine came over since we had "nothing better to do.
" a few naughty witnesses go into the city to watch the fireworks...which of course is frowned upon.
did you secretly celibrate in your own way?

I celebrated a couple new years eve parties with non jw friends while in. during my double lifer days!!! actually in my old congregation a group of us would go over someone's house and have drinks and wait for the fire works. no hats or anything like that. But basically just staying up and being together since we're going to be awake anyways.

why is it better to "fade"?
by ruined ini've been reading various posts and i notice that fading is often advised by others who have done so or wish they had done so.
why is this better than being df'd?
i'm assuming it's because your family will not shun you if you are merely da'd ?

I recommend stop going to meetings cold turkey and move far away. That way no one knows you in your new area and you do whatever you want. If family comes and visit once in a while they can deal with you doing some celebrations or you can keep it low key. I have a family member who was inactive for 10 years, lived with a guy did everything she wanted and was never df'ed. She lived away from her old hall's territory and she kept in contact with no one except our immediate family. So i guess it's the best way to have your cake and eat it too.
