apparantly, these days it is general knowledge in our local congregation that the wtbts had joined the united nations as an ngo!.
this is not a problem i am reliably told by a local relative.. the un nations deserves the same respect as any other governmental authority and just as jehovah's witnesses would obey the law of the land there is no problem in being part of the united nations!
i know jws have their minds well and truly under control, but as i remember the united nations was bad mouthed from its inception by the wtbts.. hyprocrisy, lying and slander were all words that crossed my mind when talking to this relative, but the huge pointlessness of trying to wake up a jw from their 'cosy' fantasy world suddenly struck me and i made my excuses and left..
I grew up hearing of all those persecuted in different countries for not supporting their political parties, what do they think the United Nations is?
It was forbidden to sing the national anthem, it was forbidden to salute the flag, it was forbidden to join anything that was outside the organization. How things change so easily, if it is them that makes the decision.. I guess they had some holy enlightenment that it was okay now.

I am just venting at this point, but the comments in the letters, the complete disregard to individuals who wrote letters, went to them for help to protect themselves and others is unbelievably disgusting beyond words. All to protect an image, all to protect the confessions of individuals as was written in the articles posted. I truely wish to see more individuals who have been harmed in this way speak out, and bankrupt the organization.
Gosh.. soooo angry... and pondering on what action I myself should take at this time in my life.

a witness cannot question anything from a critic's point of view.
wondering aloud why the watchtower says a certain thing can get you in trouble with the think police (the elders).

I was very athletic as a youth, but wasnt allowed to join in any after school sports.
Wasnt allowed to go to any school dances.
No music other than what was allowed.. (radio taped to one station only)
Wasnt allowed to have a friend outside of the organization.
Wasnt allowed to plan for the future by taking career courses in school. (the world was ending anyway I was told, so no point in focussing on such things)
Wasnt allowed to go to a movie theatre, first time I went I was 15.
Wasnt allowed to watch tv, other than lawrence welk, little house on the prairie, and national geographic type shows.
Wasnt even allowed to go to most congregation youth gatherings.
The list goes on.. and on and on..
Basically the worst was being made to believe there was no point in planning for a future, and aquiring a decent career. I would say that was the one that affected the later years the most. And due to the brainwashing, it took a long time to think that life was going to go on.. so therefore took a long time to actually get anywhere career ways, or actually start living a life. So much time lost, today I think of what I could have become out of interest and the smarts for it.. a historian, sociologist... it's not to late.. but so much time wasted.
This topic is a major for me.. ticks me off all the losses.
does it make you feel good when you tell jaracz and company how much they suck, how they're gonna disintegrate and why you're so pissed?
For me it feels good to be heard and understood, and to be validated by fellow forum members. I do wish to justice for all who have been harmed by the organization, but as far as individuals, unless they have harmed me, I wouldnt feel good at all in telling them off simply because they are a part of something that hurt me. To me it is the bigger picture of the organization, how they handle things at the top that spirals down to the individual congregations, and then to the individual. It is that heirarchy of power that has harmed so many all to protect their good name. There are many sweet, kind ordinary individuals who chose to belong to this organization, they do not deserve my wrath.
well learning to fly's story inspired me to write this one...it happened to my extended family...well here goes...our family is very deep rooted in the organization....like in the proclaimers book...part of history...anyways, this one famous "brother" had several children and was an active witness throughout his life..enjoying the type of notoriety that comes from being part of jw history and having a recognizable last name...one day we find out he has died...and apparently it wasn't an accident because he left a note....of course other family members try to say he mixed his medicine...but why the note???
well soon after one of his daughters is super depressed and tries to commit suicide.
she is also a witness...slowly after much therapy seems she gets her memory back and remembers that good old dad sexually abused her until she got her period...turns out he did this to all his children....of course all of them had blocked out the memories but all had problems with their husbands in the sexual department...they all began remembering incidences as well...so in the end, this brother that everyone looked up and thought was so wonderful was just another sick pedophile who raped all his kids and committed suicide.

Makes me sad every time I hear another story like this.. it is bad under any circumstances to be abused, but to have it happen under the cover of a religion to me adds another dimension to it completley. I hope all those girls are ok..
Although my story was hard to share, I am so glad it can help others to share their experiences and stories too..

Sorry to hear you had such a hard day Freeman, whats most important is that you believe that you are important and worthy and dont let yourself fall to far into that negative s/thought. I'm not sure how well I would do in such a situation, having my partner being a believer and myself not. Stay strong!

no, not really, i was easy on the old guy.
at our post office in our home town there every day is an approximately 65 to 70 year old witness man who stands next to the post office entry door with the magazines wt & awake.
Nicely done Flipper! I wish someone would come to my door, so I could have opportunity to bring this up as well. I would do it nicely as well, no point in doing so othewise.
There is so much secrecy involved in this organization, and very likely this isnt going to be the main title of the sunday public talk.
hello fellow forum members, i am very new here, and feel it is time to share a little about myself.
this site has gotten me quite riled up again, and even after many years my experience is not memorable and still upsets me when i think of it.
my beginning experience of joining the jw organization at age 6 was not unpleasant at all, and was not for many years.
I thank all of you who have responded, this is the first time I have truly felt heard, and validated .. it is an incredibly healing feeling! Since posting, I have been processing the emotions felt from telling my story. Your responses have all been beautifuly suportive and caring, I thank you for the healing taking place in me for that.
