whew!

The light of my life was Brandon, a Sheltie. I had to put him to sleep in January, he was fourteen years old. We tried every thing to save him, he was being treated for kidney failure for over a year. It drained our savings account, but it was worth it to keep him comfortable till the end. I'm crying so hard right now, I miss him so much. He was a beautiful dog, my little boy.

it's a difficult thing, once having been a member of the elite, the chosen few, hand-picked by the almighty never to die, to wake up, suddenly or otherwise to the realization that all was a lie.
of course, when we were jws, we had a purpose in life, and that purpose, along with life itself was a forever kind of thing.
we were to live forever, and our existance was well-defined for us.

I know how you're feeling, and it's a painful place to be. It does get better though. You will go thru the stages of grief because you have lost someone.....your former self. Every answer you thought you had to every question no longer fits. Eternal life is no longer guaranteed. Nothing is the same.
It's wonderful that you're going back to school. That takes determination and courage. Try to fill your summer with the things you always wanted to do, but couldn't. You will survive this, and best of luck to you.

one of my closest friends in all the world is someone i'll call m. m is in her mid-thirties and was raised a jw from infancy but is one no longer.
her parents are still very jw... her dad is a very high profile, respected elder in a large american city.
they are both cool people... i've sat and had long talks with both of them about subjects having nothing to do with 'the truth.
Wow, this brings up alot of memories.
((((Lisa, Andi and others)))) I'm so sorry for what you've gone thru.
teejay...I never thanked you for the time you took to respond to me in this post. I was too distraught at the time to do so. Now that I've SOMEWHAT accepted what the religion did to me, my thinking is clearer. Well, anyway, thank you.

as many people already know, using the term "the truth" to describe an organization's teachings is a brilliant way to constantly reaffirm it's validity subconsciously.
it's a great use of repetition to establish as fact that which is only opinion.. i keep hearing the phrase "the friends".
aside from the fact that i really don't like the terminology, i couldn't help but wonder if this isn't just another use of repetition and loaded language to enforce the belief that all of the people who share the same religion actually are your friends.. in some ways, i think it would be beneficial for some folks to drop "the truth" and "the friends" from their vocabulary so that they aren't continuing to immerse themselves in group-lingo that's intended to elicit certain emotional responses and associations.. what other loaded language can you come up with that is quasi-specific to jehovah's witnesses?
"Widen out" refering to association with the brothers, always hated that term.

Oops, I meant the congregation members, not the "brothers."
